Though the Banjin Bridge succeeded in getting the fighters in the Paaren Seiha across, it did so at the cost of Tazawa and Matsuo, taking away two of the brightest stars of Otokojuku......

Chp. 64: Song of the Soul

144.
Momotarou: MATSUO, TAZAWA----!!
Momotarou: Th…they…………

145.
Date: What are you doing? Withdraw, it’s crumbling down---!! Withdraw! All of you---!!
Date: Don’t you know why those two threw themselves to their deaths---!! Do you want their deaths to be in vain---!!
Togashi: ………………!!
Date: Climb, climb right up, Momo---!!

146.
Momotarou: ………………………………

147.
Date: They’re great men………they built the Banjin Bridge to this cliff and fell laughing so they wouldn’t get involved with us…
Togashi: Gununu……!!
First-Year 1: They…died………
First-Year 2: Th…those always bright and cheery Matsuo and Tazawa are………
First-Year 3: Wh…why………!!
Hidemaro: Ma…Matsuo, Ta…Tazawa…………it’s…a lie. How could they die…………….

148.
Hidemaro: You dummies, explain yourselves---!! How could you act like that and die so casually----!!
Hidemaro: Can we believe that you’re dead---!! Reply back—Matsuo, Tazawa---!!
Hidemaro: Pl…please, so…
Wan Taaren: Do you plan to be sad forever!? Your next challenger opponents on the 2nd battleground are waiting, looking forwards to you.
Toramaru: ………He unknowingly………!?

149.
Wan Taaren: The road of the Daiishin Paaren Seiha is long and steep…from here ahead, greater sadness and pain awaits you. What will you do…!? You are free to abandon the match, declare defeat and go back…
Momotarou: Matsuo and Tazawa were real blunderers. Since I first met them in the enrollment ceremony, I thought that they would be buried at Otokojuku, which is expressed as a world of hell.
Momotarou: But I knew I was wrong quickly…they endured to the end without ever crying, no matter how much difficult or painful.
Momotarou: Even so, they behaved cheerfully with the comedy they just could do, endeavoring for everyone…they’ve helped us get this far with their cheerfulness…
Momotarou: To go back…do you think we can be on the returning road with our lost allies…………!!

150.
Momotarou: Let’s go!
Togashi: Hey, Hidemaro………
Togashi: Do…don’t cry…all…all of us are desperately enduring while wanting to cry……
Hidemaro: ………………………………
Hidemaro: Ah, right. I won’t ever cry anymore…Matsuo, Tazawa…it was because I didn’t want to smile for them…
(TN: Really confusing this part, was Hidemaro talking about his personal feelings for Matsuo and Tazawa…or Matsuo and Tazawa not “wanting to laugh at the First-Years”…probably the former due to Hidemaro’s realization)

151.
Hidemaro: Their death shouldn’t be futile. We must win this Daiishin Paaren Seiha. That would be proof us and them were friends in this world.
Togashi: The…way of life of the men of Japan…………is…is passion without color or love……………
Toramaru: The…path of men is nothing but…………
Hidemaro: Wa…walking, charging towards tomorrow…………
(TN: The “charge” part is the verb “sakigakeru”, which is “to be a pioneer” or a “forerunner” or “charging forth”. Therefore the main reason why the full translation of the title of the series is “Charge!! Otokojuku”, with the “Sakigake!!” standing for the “Charge!!”)

152.-153.
First-Years: (singing)
THE WAY OF LIFE OF THE MEN OF JAPAN
IS PASSION WITHOUT COLOR
OR LOVE
THE PATH OF MEN IS NOTHING BUT
WALKING, CHARGING TOWARDS TOMORROW
AH OTOKOJUKU, SPIRIT OF MEN
WE CHARGE FORTH ON OUR PATH

THE SOUL OF THE MEN OF JAPAN
IS STRONG, VIOLENT
AND WARM
THE DREAMS OF MEN IS NOTHING BUT
WISHING, CHARGING TOWARDS TOMORROW
AH OTOKOJUKU, SPIRIT OF MEN
WE CHARGE FORTH TO OUR DREAM.

154.
First-Years: (singing)
AH OTOKOJUKU
SPIRIT OF MEN
WE CHARGE FORTH ON OUR PATH.
AH OTOKOJUKU
SPIRIT OF MEN
WE CHARGE FORTH TO OUR DREAM

Wan Taaren: Otokojuku’s school song………
Wan Taaren: Even so, what sorrowful singing…it’s as if they’re wailing like they’re pulling out their souls.
Wan Taaren: But amidst their sadness, they’re going forth against the storm. That’s reassuring. It’s been a while since my heart has been shaken……!!

155.
Voice: Fuffufu, they’re greatly withstanding the loss of their friends. I’m pleased………
Voice: But we miscalculated the loss of Henshouki and Manjimaru in the first battle: the Jikan Hyakuchuurin Fight.
Voice 2: It was because the one called J was stronger than anticipated…we were unprepared.

156.
Jaki: Unprepared………!?
Jaki: ………That wasn’t the reason. My ambition of a perfect victory in the Daiishin Paaren Seiha has quickly collapsed.
Rasetsu: Relax………I’m certain we’ll make up for it by killing all of them…!!

157.
Jaki: Who’s going to the 2nd battleground!?
Dokugantetsu: Dokugantetsu and Senkuu, one of the Shitennou.
Jaki: Dokugantetsu, Senkuu…………don’t betray my expectations.
Jaki: Being slightly unprepared is forbidden.
Senkuu: Right!!

158.
(Some nice handwork by both Jaki and Dokugantetsu…but what will Senkuu do?)

159.
Senkuu: BISEN-RYUU: KOUSAIKEN!!
(TN: “Bisen-ryuu” = “Yielding Flash-style”, though actually the “Bi” kanji has a few other meanings such as “Fluttering”, “Waving” or “Seducing”, “Yielding Flash” somehow works in my head; meanwhile, “Kousaiken” = “Death-Breaking Fist”)
Dokugantetsu: Fuffufu, you’re a bad man too.
Jaki: Fine, that’s enough. They’re an interesting duo………

160.
Togashi: It’s finally our turn, Hien.
Hien: Since we were measured by them at the start of the competition, the Third-Years going to send great opponents towards us.
Togashi: Right, but we won’t lose. Because I won’t want to have any more sadness about my allies………………!!
Hien: ……………………
Toramaru: !?
Toramaru: Wh…what’s that………!? There are some eyes shining within the fog!!

161.
First-Years: Wh…what, a statue of a giant----!!

TN: Let me just say...you had to get a bit emotional when you heard the Otokojuku school song...even if it had that silly "image" of Matsuo and Tazawa floating in the sky. Yeah it was appropriate but...it just looked silly as they juts marched along the Paaron Long Castle path. In a weird way though, Momo's soliloquay for them personified those two: they were the Rosenkrantz and Guiderstern of Otokojuku: sure they weren't crucial or key, but they did their part and survived like the other, smiling and laughing through their deaths. I still don't get how Wan Taaren got to the other side of the gap...but that's a secret only he knows. Oh BTW: I sort of wished that I knew who threw out that "Bisen-ryuu" attack near the end of the chapter, but since no one else was listed anywhere I went and it was within Senkuu's area...though the weird thing is he never uses this ever again after this one scene and ends up fighting a completely different manner later on after...well, you'll see. And...at least we finally got Jaki revealed instead of having him in that "semi-revealed bald man" state forever...and he no longer seems like a giant either.
