Sakigake!! Otoko Juku 117
The Destined Duo!!
-> RTS Page for Sakigake!! Otoko Juku 117
Having cleared away all of the rest of the forces of Olympus, Jaki finally steps forth to take on their chief god Zeus! However, what should merely be a showdown of power may be a destined match of a another level!
Chp. 117: The Destined Duo!!
47.
Toramaru: To…today they’re bringing an end to their destined showdown~~!?
Togashi: Ha…have those two really fought before~~~!!
48.
(Title Page…yep, Jaki and Zeus really have a lot they have to get out there)
49.
Edajima: WHAT……!? Jaki is facing Zeus, the chief god of the Olympus 16-Battle Gods……………!!
Caption: OTOKOJUKU BASEMENT: HOUTAKUSHOU ROOM
Onihige: He…knows of him!? Pr…principal knows the man called Zeus!?
Edajima: This is about human destiny. The time and place has changed, but those two are going to fight again…!!
Hikouboshi: Wh…what exactly is that!?
Edajima: I haven’t forgotten, it was three years ago: those two collided in the finals of the Kanretsu Budou Taikai, which is as equally admired as the Tenchou Gorin Daibukai where super-top-ranked fighters were gathered and compete with their martial arts.
(TN: Though it’s much easier to translate than “Tenchou Gorin Daibukai”, I left it in Japanese for consistency. BTW: “Kanretsu Budou Taikai” = “Calling-Violence Martial Arts Tournament”)
50.
Edajima: I too had witnessed many battles to the death up until then, but I had not ever seen such a fierce fight of that level. They were extremely even in heart, technique and body to that level, and with their mutual wounds throughout their bodies, their match continued on for three days and nights without withdrawing even a step……!!
Onihige: Wh…what was that……………
Hikouboshi: Th…three days and nights…………
Edajima: Correct: they fought to the bitter end without eating or drinking for three days or nights.
Edajima: And then, when they reached the morning of the fourth day, they strained the last of their energy and strength to end the match.
51.
Zeus: NUU--!!
Jaki: Ooh---!!
52.
Edajima: But it hadn’t ended the match. While aiming their fists for each other’s vitals, they barely didn’t reach them.
(TN: The “barely” part is actually “kamihitoe”, which is “paper-thin”, showing the closeness of how they missed it)
Edajima: They had used up their spirit and guts to their limits and the two of them were unspeaking in that stance. And then they were taken to the hospital in that state, making it a tie.
53.
Onihige: That’s…an absurd story…………!!
Hikouboshi: But…even so, the one who fought Jaki evenly was that man called Zeus…………!!
Edajima: It’s been three years since then. With the time that has passed for both of them who were even in power at the same time, which of their power will end this…!! Now we’ll know the answer!
Zeus: Fu, I remembered what happened that day……………!!
54.
Zeus: Let’s go!!
Toramaru: Aah!! They’re mutually colliding right across each other--!!
55.
Jaki: HA!!
Zeus: Kuu!!
56.
Jaki: !!
Zeus: What’s the matter: I’ve got you from behind……….!!
Zeus: Uh!!
57.
Zeus: !!
Jaki: Hmph!!
58.
Jaki: Nu!!
59.
Zeus: Fu, whatever this is, these three years weren’t squandered uselessly, Jaki. The sharpness of your fist has increased even further than before.
Jaki: Same for you.
Toramaru: Did…you see: the replies to their techniques now~~~!! They mutually gave each other damage to the same places without being a bit misplaced----!!
Momotarou: Equal…they’re equal. Jaki’s power and Zeus’s power in every way……………!!
60.
Zeus: Even if this fight continued as is, we’ll never reach the end just like what happened three years ago. I do not desire that for you.
Delphi: Haha--!!
Zeus: For that reason, I’ve prepared this. Our great ancestors end things like such for this sort of situation.
Zeus: Shall we undertake the Snake Blood Contract!!
(TN: “Snake Blood Contract”, like many of Olympus’ matters, is written in English in katakana with a kanji reading, which in this case is “Snake Blood-Vow Fight”)
61.
Toramaru: Wh…what’s with that Zeus: he’s suddenly taken out some snake from that box~~~!!
Togashi: The Snake Blood Contract~~~!?
Delphi: Fufufu, a Greek Tinaconda……………when bitten by this, its poison will circulate through a person’s entire body in 20 minutes and they’ll die, no matter how strong a physical body they possess.
(TN: Don’t try to look up what a “Greek Tinaconda” is, it’s just another “Otokojuku/Minmei” creature)
Delphi: However, there is just one way to be saved: you have to drink the lifeblood of the snake within the 20 minutes. Its blood acts as an antidote.
Delphi: This is just the only way.
Zeus: With what’s been said until now, you understand the meaning of the Snake Blood Contract.
62.
Toramaru: Aah!! Wh…what is he doing by with the deadly-poison snake biting his own arm---!
Zeus: We…well, it’s your turn. Surely you shouldn’t refuse this.
63.
Commentary:
The Snake Blood Contract…a dueling method which occurs to hold a complete conclusion to a destined match in the coliseums of ancient Greece. It began when it first occurred as a suggestion of King Milos for Hedobius and Dabius, who were vying for the fame of being the strongest fighter in the history of Greece. In passing, the extremely famous Greek specialty “Syracuse alcohol” has it’s origin in the custom of putting in the blood of the Greek Tinaconda and drinking it in turn whenever men are partaking in this.
-From “The Aegean Sea—It’s Romantic Ancient Fighting History”, Taikoubou Books
(TN: The Greek names were a bit difficult, but the big story this time is the revelation of another publishing company, this time “Taikoubou Shorinkan”; with “Shorin” Japanese for a “bookshop” or “bookstore” and “kan” as the kanji for a publishing, I chose to make this with the publishing denomination “Books”)
Togashi: St…stop th…that stupid thing---!!
Toramaru R…right!! Don’t go along with his provocation; it’ll be better if he did that by himself---!
Jaki: Interesting.
64.
Zeus: So then, my destined formidable enemy!! Whether we live or die, this will conclude our fight!!
65.
Jaki: Ku!!
Zeus: Will this blood that shall be the victory wine go to you or me…!!
TN: You realize that whenever Edajima acknowledges a rivalry as fierce and as equal as Jaki and Zeus, you're in for a showdown of major magnitudes! Heck, it's just bizarre to imagine that someone as powerful as Jaki, who ruled Otokojuku for so long with little trouble and who nearly defeated even Momo in the Paaren Seiha last arc, would have a rival so equal! But of course, if what we've seen so far is just the beginning of the troubles, then who knows how this is going to end up...particularly with the two of them partaking in killer snake-bites to end their showdown. I sort of do wonder why Delphi is around...but considering he's the only one on Olympus not fighting, at least he has some purpose with stuff like helping Zeus and the predictions he did back in the Gemini fight. (though he probably should have been killed when that fell through)
BTW: I felt a tad rusty but considering its been a few weeks since I last did Otokojuku (beyond my control unfortunately), I sort of hope that it is still usable.
