Momo has accepted a showdown with Anubis in a sand pit where deadly scorpions lurk to seal death for either of them! But who is going to get stung by this deadly showdown method first?

Chp. 166: The Dreadful Scorpion Match!!

127.
Anubis: Nuu!!

128.
(Title Page…yeah, a scorpion is coming between Momo and Anubis)

129.
Toramaru: Pa…pay attention, Mo…Momo---!! Un…underfoot---!
Togashi: The…they’re fighting on…top of sand hidden with poisonous scorpions; this really is such a terrible match---!!
Anubis: If you want to run, you should run. But if your foot steps even a step outside the sand-zone, that means your defeat.
Momotarou: Fu, you’re saying that thing looking at an opponent. With that, I return to you your speech.

130.
Momotarou: !!
Momotarou: Ku!!
Togashi: Aah!! Mo…Momo has stabbed a scorpion---!!
Anubis: Fufu: I say that’s one demerit. But you should be relieved: as I spoke of earlier, the scorpions bring death to a person the first time they’re stabbed three times.

131.
Anubis: This is the terror of the Gloom of Luxor and it brings me enjoyment.
Anubis: !!
Anubis: Uh!!

132.
Anubis: Guku!!
Momotarou: Fu: with that, it’s a tie, 1 to 1.
Anubis: Chii!!

133.
Toramaru: He…did it---!! Anubis has been stabbed by a scorpion too---!
Anubis: Kuu!!

134.
Anubis: Nuaa!!
Anubis: Ha!!
Anubis: Uoo!!
Anubis: Y…you………!!
Momotarou: That’s two demerits. You’re reaching your death already.
Toramaru: A…amazing, Momo~~~!! That Anubis guy is cornered at once~~~!
Togashi: Wahhahaha: you shouldn’t be at that state while setting up that big challenge---!! Hey you, do you know who you’re fighting---!! The general of Otokojuku---!

135.
Anubis: ………………It seems I’ve underrated your power.
Anubis: Your swordsmanship is just dreadful, quickly seizing the intuition of a battle in the sand. You’re handling this easily, moving with minimal foot-judgment that doesn’t irritate the scorpions……That’s surely a skill that isn’t ordinary.
Anubis: In that case, I’ll win by dispatching this.

136.-137.
Anubis: P – S OUGI: IRON-HORSE STEP-STORM OF NEBKHAT
(TN: Three matters:
“Nebkhat no Tetsuba Juuran” = “Iron-Horse Step-Storm of Nebkhat”
“Nebkhat” is also known as Nephthys, a goddess known as the “useful goddess” and the nursemaid of the Pharaoh, just like she was nursemaid to god Horus.
Yeah...I know it doesn't work unless it's in Japanese but I'm trying to keep consistant for the Pharaoh Sphinx fighters at this point)
Momotarou: !!
Toramaru: Wh…what: th…those are st…stilts!!
Togashi: Th…that Anubis: he’s on large stilts with blades attached---!!

138.
Anubis: Fufu, stilts…………………!? I don’t know that word; in my land they’re called “Belem”.
Anubis: Originally they’re things used to protect the body from carnivorous fish and blood-sucking leeches hidden in the water when crossing a river.
Anubis: We’ve improved them over time, perfecting them as the ultimate battleground weapon for we sand people.
Momotarou: Fu, understood. With those, you may be able to protect from the scorpions underfoot. But in my country, they’re children’s toys.

139.
Anubis: You fool……………your scorn will be atoned with your blood.
Momotarou: !!

140.
(Yeah…he’s fighting with his stilts…that’s Otokojuku for you)

141.
Anubis: Wahahaha: what’s wrong, you’re just running here and there!!
Anubis: Realize the terror of this Iron-Horse Step-Storm!!
Toramaru: Lo…look---!! Th…those stilts have a…tremendous consecutive attack; th…that’s the movement of the stilts---!
Raiden: It’s a terrible technique; it’s self-evident truth that there is victory by attacking from the upper-level in a competition; adding this in, though it’s even Tsurugi, he can’t get to turn for defense.

142.
Anubis: Fu, if you’re cornered as such, then in time you’ll be prey for the scorpions.
Anubis: Even so, I want to erase the dew on these Belem’s leg-blades.
Momotarou: KU!!

143.
Momotarou: Gufu!!
Toramaru: Mo…Momo~~!!

144.
Anubis: Fufu: that makes us 2-2 in scorpion poison!!
Anubis: But as long as I have these Belem, your victory is an idle thing; there isn’t even a chance of victory for you!!
Momotarou: Fu…that’s not it. Stilts are stilts after all; I’ll teach you now that they don’t surpass children’s toys.
Anubis: Huh…!?
Anubis: !!

145.
Momotarou: Let me show you Hishou Kakusuiken!! You should make this a traveling tale as you go to Hell!
(TN: “Hishou Kakusuiken” = “Informed-Secret Crane-Sinker Sword”)

TN: Yeah...they're just stilts. Stilts with blades on them that can slash at you and drive you into a corner...but still just stilts. But of course...this being Otokojuku, stilts are a deadly weapon. (then again everything can be a deadly weapon in this insane universe). This actually was a really exciting chapter with the fluid battle between Momo and Anubis considering they are fighting in a pit of deadly scorpions...but with it two-vs.-two and Momo on one sword compared to Anubis' stilts, this probably may or may not end well.

BTW: am I the only one who just likes Raiden's increased role as of late as sort of the third, serious commentator to Togashi and Toramaru's outrage and excitement?

Hey. For one i'm grateful Ataru, but why won't you answer all of my questions? I'm really curious which mangas you're reading. If you think this is not the right place, pm me please.

Back on topic. I can't say i was impressed by Anubis. I mean that's Momo, he knows almost every type of fighting style including the rouroukan manipulating pebbles :D. Other than that yes, stilts were interesting...

Laiden was always there to make a witty remark. He seems the most knowledgable, especially in Chinese Ken/m/po (is there any other style at all?). I never liked the fact that Raiden was considered the weakest of Date's group, or maybe he was just first to fight J and i misunderstood.

And i don't entirely agree with the fact that Togashi and Toramaru are depicted as idiots, but oh well i guess it's typical... In order to have someone smarter you have to have someone who's less smart...

There really is little to nothing to say about what I read. There are series I read, there are series I want to read, there are series I may never read or never feel like reading. I like manga but somehow I rather end up merely reading whatever I TL and that's all.

I always had a heart for Raiden due to feeling like a more traditional martial artist compared to the rest of the Gogakuren fighters. Meanwhile, the fact that he becomes the knowledgeable one of all these weird kenpou gives him an extra role instead of merely just being "the statues" that always seem to be in the background. That...and he fought monkeys.

And...yeah, you may think Anubis isn't much but it's just funny that he's fighting...on stilts.

Btw last night i thought about Baron Dino. Why is he a baron? And if you think about it he's probably the weirdest looking character not only among 1st,2nd and 3rd years, but maybe in general.

Wow you can't forget the fight between Raiden "monkey man" and the monkeys, can you :D? One of the major problems of the series is that characters aren't well developed. I don't mean only regarding their origins and stories... I mean that every fight (excet Togashi and probably Toramaru, but Togashi is VERY unique) ends in the same way - the good guy manages to outwit or outsmart the enemy. So we basically have one character fighting diff opponents, and the only way one can tell the diff is by looking at charactes' appearance and fighting style. I hope you get what i mean, but for me Raiden is just another Senkuu or Gekkou, just diff appearance... Togashi is totally different cause he uses his guts to fight and doesn't need a style. Maybe J has to be included in the list of unique characters as well (not counting Edajima). I meant to say that Miyashita should have created some way to distinguish chars - for example Date could of been the MUSCLE character, Raiden - the fast character, Momo - the smart, who addapts to every situation. As it is now, like i said, all fights (or 99 percent of them) end in the same way...

Maan i thought that Anubis was about to use his forehead eye tatoo in some weird way... I was surprised because of that :D

I think the biggest problem you have with this series is you just try to take it too seriously. While I do have a lot of problems with the lack of personality they can have, I think the point is they're defined by how they fight and what they do. I think that the problem that Miyashita had was that he wanted to do more exciting fights...but that was done at the cost of character development. Sure we get some glimpses of it but, aside from the First-Years (Momo, Togashi, Toramaru, the group back at school like Matsuo, Tazawa and Hidemaro...heck, even J if you think about it), he sacrificed it in order to define them by how they fight and the bizarre battle tactics they use. I mean, this was typical of a lot of these types of series...heck, even Kenshiro is rather generic if you think about it. (even if it is driven by a more dynamic story...whereas this has more dynamic and insane fights)

And Baron Dino...remember how he was introduced: he looked like a baron, complete with the cape, top hat and even the buggy whip. That explains everything.

In addition to what I said: I think Date and the Sanmenken have personalities too:
-Date: the man who just is too strong and wants a challenge but acknowledges and is mournful for those whom he loves and trusts the most.
-Raiden: the wise old warrior with tricky moves
-Hien: the bishonen who has flair and skill with his feminine style
-Gekkou: the silent stoic who isn't held back by his disabilities. (his blindness)

That's the problem.. Because when they fight (99 % percent of the time) they manage to outwit the enemy, so at the end almost every good guy manages to pull something tricky and it's RIGHT HERE that you can't make the difference between them. Of course they outwit the enemy in different ways partly because they're fighting diff opponents, but i even though i like this patter (sometimes) i wish there was ONE particular character who could do that. Maybe Raiden would have been a good choice...

They're guilty of it on both sides. When the enemy seems like they're defeated, they pull something else out forcing the Otokojuku fighter into doing something else. It's how the series goes...and while I get what you're saying about how there should feel like a bit more danger and more mortality, I doubt he could have done that with the popularity of certain characters and such. Characters do die, but most of the time they seem rather incidenta while those who die that have a measure of notability seem to find a way back. (for one example: the two Chinju Corridor fighters aren't coming back...but of course we know that Hien will return considering we never saw his body after his "defeat" and his noted popularity)

We won't see Eekei and Henshouki??? That was a spoiler... I admired Henshouki at first (he was this black guy with white hair who could send deadly air waves, it was cool, always reminded me of Nanto Seiken in some way) but like most of the characters he changed very soon. Eekei was cool as well, i liked him better than Rasetsu. What's the point of killing the second best sangousei and spare weaklings like Baron Diino??? Miyashita style...

I should reread the previous chapters, but for Eekei to be killed that easily... Henshouki turn out to be an idiot...

Btw i don't know if you have Emule, but i managed to dig some "treasures" from it before. I did manage to find the Otokojuku movie (which wasn't available anywhere, i've downloaded the Cobra manga RAW that's not even uploaded on raw-manga, etc). But i don't have emule installed now... If you have it can you please look for Akatsuki Otokojuku? Or you can try something else - copy the whole name of Akatsuki in japanese from wikipedia and then paste it on Google and then you can write megaupload or rapidshare (or whatever site japanese people are using for uploading files, you might even know that). I did this and i found dozens of Akatsuki pictures and stuff, but never the manga. But i think you might be able to find the manga becuase you can read kanji.

I didn't say Eikei...I said the Chinju Corridor. That's Dokugantetsu and Henshouki...they remain dead. Eikei...well that I won't spoil if he's dead or not. (and sorry about that with Hien)

And yeah, I can figure that could find Akatsuki but won't know if I should TL it after I'm done. (though...it is over, the final volume just came out this month in Japan)

Wowz... Which voule would that be?

I'm not asking of you to translate Akatsuki (of course i'd like that) but if you can find Akatsuki raws...

Hehe, so Eekei is about to return :P. About Hien it wasn't a spoiler, since it was obvious someone saved him just like Edogawa?/Toudou noted.

Yeah...you can't really say Hien "died" or else his fangirls probably would have killed everyone in Shueisha's office until Miyashita brought him back.

Won't reveal if/whether/when Eikei comes back but it is rather neat.

Ow well he's probably the one who saved Hien... There isn't a big list of characters who could of done so. Still, can you find raws ot Ak.?
