Shintetsu Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo 12
Plain Bread's Counterattack
-> RTS Page for Shintetsu Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo 12
They're rich, powerful and influential: they're B3, the elite guards of St. Spaghetti Academy and the only thing standing between Bo-bobo and Heppokomaru! And that's not even getting under the crust of their leader...
Shinsetsu 12: Plain Bread's Counterattack
26.
Caption: Gymnasium
Antenna Boy: Plain Bread-chan-sama...a message from Babuu-sama. It's about capturing the Bo-bobo party which has tresspassed into this academy.
(TN: Though the Japanese name for this character is "Shokupan-chan"...yes, the "chan" is literally part of his name, it literally translates into "Plain Bread-chan" like I mentioned in the last chapter. Therefore, since it has an easy translation...and it's not a weird Japanese cuisine like tokoroten or dengaku, I'll be calling him "Plain Bread-chan")
Plain Bread: Those guys from earlier......
SFX: SHI
SFX: PECHA PASHI PECHA
27.
Caption: B3 LEADER: PLAIN BREAD-CHAN
Antenna Boy: Ooh, the sushi's in the basket...
Plain Bread: I don't hate sushi...but would it be strange for bread and rice to be friends?
(TN: The "rice" that Plain Bread mentions isn't "Rice" as in the character but "Gohan", as in the cooked rice used in meals and is so crucial for Japanese cuisine)
Plain Bread: It's the same for winning teams and losing teams: they are antagonists by how they are born.
28.
Caption: At that moment...
Bo-bobo: Bring out Heppokomaru quickly. B3
Toudouin: S**T...
Students: TOUDOUIN-SAMA!
Beckenbauer: I'VE WAITED FOR THIS! FROM HERE I WILL FACE YOU WITH THE DVD-BOX OF "CHANCE-PITY IN WINTER", THE ILLUSIONARY EMOTIONAL LOVE DRAMA WITH A VALUE OF 5 QUADRILLION YEN IN MY BODY!!
(TN: There are a few things to go over at this time so I guess we'll just list them off:
-First of all, "Chance-Pity in Winter" is a major pun of the Japanese term "Fuyu no Meguriai"; usually that ends up translating into "Chance-Meeting in Winter", but the "ai" that usually is "meeting" is switched with the "ai" for pity, thus leading to the title of the drama
-Second, while I'm not quite so sure about it, it appears that "Fuyu no Meguriai" is actually in reference to a famous 2002 Korean Drama known in English as "Winter Sonata", known in Japanese as "Fuyu no Sonata" and with a theme that seems to connect with "Fuyu no Meguriai". The K-Drama is about a musician who falls in love with a girl in the winter and the trials and tribulations they go through, including memory lost (and changes due to it) and relocation to America. The K-Drama aired in Japan in 2002 on NHK and became hugely popular as part of a movement involved the Japanese acceptance of South Korean pop culture.
-Finally, 5 Quadrillion yen...is a lot of yen. Even in Dollar terms that comes out to 50 Trillion Dollars!)
Beauty: A DVD-BOX THAT'S 5 QUADRILLION YEN!!? THIS LOVE DRAMA EXISTS!?
Beckenbauer: THIS DVD IS MY ENTIRE ASSET; IT'S AN EMOTIONAL WORK OF THAT EXTENT. THOSE WHO WATCH IT ARE FELLOWS WHO WILL ABSOLUTELY BE MOVED AND WILL BREAK DOWN CRYING!!
Don Patch: INTERESTING!! LET'S WATCH IT
Beckenbauer: AH, STOP THAT! IF YOU WATCH IT...
Beckenbauer: YOU'LL COME TO NOT STOP YOUR TEARS--

Nejio: NATTOKO-SAN
Nattoko: NEJIO-SAN

SFX: ICCHA ICCHA
Nattoko: NEJIO-SAN
Nattoko: I WON'T LEAVE YOU ANYMORE
Everyone: THIS IS GARBAGE
Beckenbauer: IT'S SUPER-MOVING----!!!!
Beckenbauer: THE GIRL IN THE NUT ROLE IS THE SEXIEST NOW! THIS WORK BECAME HER CHANCE AT A BREAK WITH HER PRE-EMINENCE IN ACTING POWER.
Don Patch: ......
Beckenbauer: AAH!! HEY WATCH THE SCREEN!! HERE COMES THE SUPER-EMOTIONAL LAST SCENE!! THE DUO'S FAREWELL SCENE.
Beauty: Shut up...
Beckenbauer: HEY, WATCH WATCH WATCH WATCH!!!

CUP RAMEN
SOY SAUCE FLAVOR
Bo-bobo: HERE, A REPLACEMENT.
Don Patch: It's suitable, it becomes you.
Beauty: DEMONS...
Gaou: THIS IS SAD, BUT THIS IS WAR.
(TN: Gaou is really off regarding his reference: he was correct to transform into a character from the original 1979-1980 "Mobile Suit Gundam" anime, but the line was not said by Char Aznable [whom he turned into]. The original speaker of this line was replacement White Base pilot Sleggar Law, just before his final battle and death at the hands of Zeon's Big Zam Mobile Armor)
Girl 1: AAH, CONTINUING FROM TOUDOUIN-SAMA, THEY EVEN GOT SCWARTZ-SAMA!!
Girl 2: THIS IS...2 OF OUR B3 HAVE BEEN DEFEATED!!
Bo-bobo: Alright, let's search for Heppokomaru.
Beauty: Right.
32.
Plain Bread: HOW ABOUT THIS BEFORE THEN?
Bo-bobo: HUH!! HE GOT WITHIN MY INTERVAL WHILE I WAS UNAWARE!!?
Don Patch: YOU'RE THAT PLAIN-BREAD GUY FROM THAT TIME!!
Plain Bread: Hey.
Bo-bobo: WHAT ARE YOU---!?
Don Patch: ARE YOU A YANKEE, I'LL EAT YOU UP!!
33.
Plain Bread: Don't misunderstand me...I don't want to fight you. I am the leader of B3: Plain Bread-chan. I saw the rudeness of those two earlier...I came to apologize.
Bo-bobo: APOLOGIZE!? THIS DOESN'T SEEM SINCERE!!
Don Patch: UNDERSTAND! GET IN HERE QUICKLY. I'M HUNGRY!
Gaou: HONEY TOAST WOULD BE FINE BY ME~~

Beauty: EH?
Plain Bread: HOW DID YOU REALIZE IT?
Bo-bobo: EVEN AS YOUR FACE SMILED, YOU WEREN'T SMILING IN THE INSIDE OF YOUR EYES. THAT'S A PERSON I CAN'T BELIEVE IN FROM THE START.
Plain Bread: UNDERSTOOD...YOU WERE AN INTERESTING GUY FOR A BIT. AT ANY RATE, I WILL BREAK YOU APART AND TAKE YOU RIGHT IN FRONT OF BABUU-SAMA.
36.
Beauty: BABUU-SAMA? THEN HE-KUN IS AT THIS ACADEMY AFTER ALL...
Bo-bobo: We'll defeat him and get info on Heppokomaru's whereabouts!
Plain Bread: I'LL SETTLE THIS AND ERASE YOU: PAN SHINKEN CHOUOUGI...
(TN: "Pan" = "Bread")
Plain Bread: PLAIN BREAD'S SHOCK BAN!!!
(TN: This technique is a changearound but only works in Japanese with the reading of "shokupan no shokkuban": as I mentioned before, "shokupan" is Japanese for "plain bread"; "shock ban" in Japanese is the hirigana that spells out "shokkuban", which is a slight adjustment of a few characters yet with the same characters for the most part (aside the change in some of the modifiers) as "shokupan")

3rd: EAT HALF OF A HAMBURGER? (HANBAAGU, HANBUN KUU?)
4th: KOSU DARIKA-SAN BORN IN COSTA RICA (KOSUTARIKA UMARE NO KOSU DARIKA-SAN)
TN: I've finally realized something I really should have realized before: the characters that seem the most interesting and who seem to be the most developed of Sawai's warriors in each group...has the food theme. I mean sure, we know of the likes of Tennosuke, Dengaku Man and even Don Patch. (and his konpeito past) But this also seems to apply to J, Hanpen, Wandering Tofu and...well, now Plain Bread-chan! Heck, even though he proved his evil nature now, the fact that he actually did seem accommodating and really seems a bit less evil than he lets on (see the last chapter and how he was willing to give "his card" even before getting down to business) shows he isn't that bad. Besides...at least he didn't spend 5 quadrillion yen for a DVD set of a nut and a screw getting thrown away. (then again, Beckenbauer's obsession with that series was bizarre but funny in a Bo-bobo way...only a robot would like other inanimate object's love affairs) And...strangely enough I think they should have had the pun conference around way before this chapter considering how many we'd trudged through until now...
