48.
Narrator: Kokkuri-san, Cupid-san, Angel-sama…there are many names it is given, but basically it’s the same thing.
Narrator: Even the way it is done is somewhat different by area, but
Miki: Angel-sama, Angel-sama, please turn through the circumference of the heart.
Narrator: Generally it’s common to use a 10-yen coin.
Miki: There, Angel-sama has possessed this 10-yen coin.
Long-Hair: No~~it’s moving on it’s own…
Short-Hair: I’m~~scared!
SFX: ZUZU
Narrator: And there are two rules that must be obeyed.
Narrator: The paper must be cut up finely (over 48 pieces) and thrown away. And
49.
Narrator: The 10-yen coin…must be used solely without staying with other coins within 24 hours…IT MUST NEVER BE HELD ON TO!!
*THIS GAME IS TERRIBLY DANGEROUS. PLEASE NEVER MIMICK THIS! EVEN BY SOME CHANCE A MISFORTUNATE ACCIDENT OCCURS, THE AUTHORS AND THE EDITORIAL DEPARTMENT DOESN’T BARE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT!!
50.
Kyouko: ! (Haa--…)
Miki: Next, please tell us the name of the man who is tied to Inaba Kyouko.
SFX: ZUZU
Character: HI
SFX: ZUZU
Character: RO
SFX: ZU…
Character: SHI
SFX: GYUU | PITA
Miki: Ara, Kyouko, stop putting in your power, it’s no good.
SFX: GISHI GISHI
Kyouko: Hohoho, what is that?
Miki: You can’t go against the will of god.
Short-Hair: Kya
SFX: ZAZA
Kyouko: Ara, what god? A god that is the material of rumors for a gossipy female?
Miki: Hey hey, it’s going towards “Shi” after all.
Kyouko: It—isn’t going there!!
SFX: BABA
Long-Hair: Bugya
51.
Nube: ?
SFX: DODODODODO
Kyouko: What is this Angel-sama! You’ve been moving this on purpose.
SFX: GYA—GYA--| ZUBABABABA
Miki: What are you saying: this is the word of a god, a god!
SFX: PAKO—N
Nube: Kokkuri-san should be banned. Who did this, tell me?
Girls: It was Miki.
Miki: I’m sorry.
Miki: But isn’t this a selfless game, even if it’s not in the corner of your eye?
Nube: You dummy, Kokkuri-san is scary.
Kyouko: It’s Angel-sama.
52.
Nube: This sort of game was called Table Tipping; since it came into Japan in the Meiji period, this terrifying game has had it’s form changed and have had several booms for it, but when it’s done by an amateur, they’ll be possessed by a vulgar spirit without knowing the reason, take in self-suggestions and will be destroyed even in their individuality.
(TN: We’ll be going further into “Kokkuri-san/Angel-sama” in the Encyclopedia, but “table tipping” or “table turning” actually originally became popular in Europe in the 1850s after several experiments by two investigators: Count de Gasparin and Professor Thury, where they tried to prove that the movement of a table was due to a physical force from those sitting there. It also became the basis for the modern Ouija board)
Miki: No way, didn’t you know? Kokkuri-san is an evil spirit, but Angel-sama is a good spirit.
Nube: Dummy, that’s superstition.
Miki: Even so, even if this becomes dangerous, will you save us teacher?
Kyouko: Hold on, Miki.
Nube: Hey! Aren’t you going to reflect on this at all!!
Miki: Ah, I was lying there: I’ll reflect on this!
Miki: I won’t do Angel-sama anymore! It was up to this time. What can you do then! Bye-by—e, teacher!
Nube: That girl…
53.
SFX: RIP RIP RIP
Miki: There! We should use that 10-yen coin with what’s left. Won’t that be simple? That was because Nube is prone to worrying.
Kyouko: Really? You need to reflect on this.
Kyouko: A phone? Where are you calling?
SFX: PIPOPE
Miki: This will do—
SFX: RURURU--…RURURU--…CLICK
Miki: Uh~huh, I’m a 25-year old office lady. I’m extremely lonely now—

Miki: I don’t know, I’ve got a bad feeling…
Kyouko: Should you rather throw it away?
Miki: That’s no good, it must be used! Further, I can’t mix it with other coins.
55.
Miki: I can’t buy a Tirol Chocolate with 10 yen these days. This game could work.
(TN: Tirol Chocolate is a small little block chocolate usually sold for cheap…but as Miki said, inflation prevented them from being 10 yen as of 1993)
Sign: Nostalgic for Old Days INVADER GAME – What, its 10 Yen.
(TN: Obviously a reference to the Taito video game Space Invaders, released in 1978)
Kyouko: You should play that.
(TN: While it’s hard for me to say “Ryu from Street Fighter” in the last panel, this one has images of three notable Fatal Fury characters…personally I wish Mai Shiranui drawn by Okano a few years later…but that’s personal preference)
Miki: OK.
SFX: CHARIN
Miki: Ah, what: it’s suddenly got a bug…
SFX: ZAZAZA
Voice: YOU WILL DIE.

Nube: Hm—ph.
Nube: Huh? Wasn’t it that it’ll be fine because Angel-sama is a good spirit?
Miki: I’m sorry, I had a bad manner yesterday, I apologize for it. I’ll exactly obey whatever you direct from now on, Teacher. So then, save me.
59.
Nube: It seems you’ve reflected on it. So then, I’ll do the exorcism. Please wait in the classroom after school.
Miki: Really!?
Miki: Ah—that’s good: that teacher is weak to a woman’s tears!!
SFX: PIKU
Kyouko: Just a moment, Miki!
Kyouko: Have you reflected at all…
Miki: Hey! He’ll hear us, be quiet.
Nube: --So then, let’s begin the exorcism.
Miki: Wh…what spirit is possessing it?
Nube: I don’t know. I can’t predict at all what can be summoned with Table Tipping done by an amateur.
Nube: Based on our circumstance, I don’t know even if it’s a really evil spirit that can’t even be managed by me.
SFX: ZO~~~…
Miki: Don’t threaten that, teacher…
60.
Nube: So here we go…Namu Daiji Daihi Kyuugu Kyuunan! Spirit possessing the 10-yen coin, show yourself!!

Angel: I AM ANGEL. I AM A DEITY. I AM KUNITOKOTACHI NISSHOU NO MIKOTO.
(TN: I really don’t know if this is a title or an name, but I will treat it as a name for the moment. If it is a title, it translates into “Standing Normal Country, Revered of the Rising Sun”. Personally I would make it “Kunitokotachi, Revered of the Rising Sun”…but for the moment I rather just keep it in Japanese without any real understanding of what he’s supposed to be with that)
Nube: What is this, he’s…neither a youkai or an evil spirit…this being is… A GOD!
62.
Angel: OF COURSE, I AM A GOD! HOWEVER, THIS WOMAN HAS SUMMONED AND PLAYED WITH ME IN VAIN…UNFORGIVABLE! THIS CRIME POSSESSES CERTAIN DEATH!
SFX: KUWA
Miki: Nube, be…beat him quickly!
Nube: That’s absurd…my opponent is a god…!
Angel: That spiritualist over there can’t interfere. I am a god. What will happen if you defy a god?
Miki: Nube!
Miki: Nube…
63.
Nube: I’m sorry. I can’t defy a god…This is bad luck so we have to give up…
Miki: That’s…
Miki: I’ve…been a bad girl! I jested at what Teacher said and asked…I’ll exactly hear what Teacher says from now on; I’ll be a good girl!
Miki: I won’t bring out Angel-sama ever again! Even if I was given a million yen, I won’t do it!
Nube: While were at it, will you stop gossiping during class?
Miki: Yes!
Nube: Will you clean the bathrooms for a month for your punishment?
Miki: YES!
64.
Nube: OK, SO THEN I’LL SAVE YOU.
SFX: NIKO
Miki: Nube--!?
SFX: POKA—N…|ZA ZA
Nube: Namu Daiji Daihi Kyuugu Kyuunan Koudai Reikan…
Angel: Wh…what are you doing? I am a God. Kunitokotachi Nisshou no…

65.
Nube: HOW ARE YOU AN “ANGEL-SAMA”---!!
SFX: ZUBA
SFX: GYOOOOOO
Miki: A…pig!?
SFX: BASHUN
Nube: It’s called Hagure Inari…a vulgar animal spirit but I’ve heard it’s cunning. It was optimistic in deceiving people by being like a god like that…generally those are the true identities of Kokkuri-san.
(TN: “Hagure Inari” = “Stray Inari”; with an “inari” being a harvest god…usually a fox but here a pig)
66.
Nube: Well, wasn’t that a nicely scary game?
Miki: …He tricked me…!
Miki: Ye…yes.
Narrator: And so, as Miki promised, she did do bathroom duty for a month but…
Sign: GIRL’S RESTROOM
Nube: Has Miki reflected and doing this diligently?
Kyouko: Well—
Hiroshi: Hey—will this really address the will of space?
Miki: Pasharu Neta-sha Ekutonton, tell us the male that Kyouko likes.
Makoto: Would an alien know about that?
Kyouko: Now she’s gotten into channeling.
Nube: Really! I won’t know what to do anymore if she’s possessed by the ghost of an alien.

(turns around)
Oops, sorry. Now what was I going to say...oh yeah: welcome back, Miki. I know, that's the weirdest thing to say about this chapter starting off but to tell the truth, it just feels weird considering how Miki was introduced (and how she will eventually be) seeing her essentially playing it straight and avoiding all trouble whatsoever for two volumes. (even getting cutesy with Tamamo of all people) Seeing the blond as a gossipy mischief maker again just fits her more than being so meek...I sort of wonder though if the mangaka were thinking of doing this from the start or they were just going to give her the one chapter of mischief and then merely make her "good" after the gossiping shadow. But to tell the truth, seeing Miki running around tormenting Kyouko about her love life...or pretending to be a "lonely 25-year old office lady" (yeah, you do have to wonder how old these characters are sometimes) felt more interesting than seeing her screaming in fear from some bathroom spirit. The scenario on its own was for the most part set-up to begin (or sort of continue) Miki's character development, showing that she does have some interest in the supernatural after all...and it (as well as other things...) will just develop from here. I also really like how Nube pretty much forced Miki's hand before defeating the piggish angel: considering what she ended up pulling, forcing her to see how hopeless it was apparently and making her give up some of what she had in order for Nube to help her shows that he is willing to use a harder approach in order to keep someone like her out of mischief. (well for a few minutes at least)
