(TN: Toramaru is actually referring to an attack by the Ultraman hero Ultra Seven, from the famous 1967 tokusatsu series of the same name. (Famous that he’s probably more popular in Japan than even the original Ultraman!) Known as the Eye Slugger, it allows Ultra Seven to detach the crest on top of his head and throw it sort of like the boomerang from Manjimaru’s mohawk)

Commentary:
Chousouki…invented by General Toumonkei, who won his fame even among heroes as a hero in line with the history of China. General Toumonkei had been short in stature, but obtained advantageous attacks from overhead and nimbleness from compensating for it with this. By devising the Chousouki his great military gains increased.

Naturally, you need to have tough physical strength and a superior sense of balance to freely use this Chousouki.

Incidentally even in the present, there is a memory to this in the custom of placing noodles in the shape of a spiral at the time of a man’s birth and praying for them to grow up brave.

TN: Sometimes I really don't get the means of a battle in this series. I get that Manjimaru gets that Touketsu and Taiketsu are slime that deserve no mercy whatsoever. So then...why is he so willing to play by their rules regardless even to the point of knowing they still have crooked means? As cool as seeing Taiketsu's head get split open vertically was and as much sense as it would be seeing them starting to act as cowardly as always (as Miyashita did hint at), I didn't like Manjimaru forcing Toramaru to "play by the rules" even though those two are just cowards. I guess in a way Manjimaru wants to show himself as fair even if Touketsu and Taiketsu are jerks, but in a way Toramaru was correct as well: they're just going to keep doing cowardly and stupid methods so just take them down when you have the chance. In a way everything is fully explained in the next chapter as to why Manjimaru didn't just kill Taiketsu here and it actually makes it work way better than he presents it here...but I guess that's what happens with the less one knows about a mangaka's work. BTW: fighting with a spring on your head and swords on your feet is just another hilarious maneuver only this series would come up with...
