Souketsu: Don’t complain, old man.
Old Man: Umu, that is fine: we all had the same stomach.
Old Man: He was a foolish man who let fall the name of the prided Ryouzanpaku. It was a mistake to bring in those two after all.
Old Man: But our match with those Otokojuku men is from here: the time has finally come for our best man to step out.

TN: I know I really should just look ahead a chapter when commenting on a previous one towards what happens afterwards, but somehow I just like taking an immediate reaction to things even if I know how it's going to turn out. With the feeling of immediacy, it makes it feel like the chapter is first being released to the world like a new series instead of being fully available like a lot of older series can be and feel at time. With that said, while I did complain last chapter about why Manjimaru just didn't finish off Taiketsu when he had the chance prior to him trying to kill Toramaru, I did like the reason as to why as presented here: they weren't worth it. Yeah it sort of makes his death (and likewise Touketsu's) feel more karmic, but in a way that's how Otokojuku works: the noble survive, the trash/weak/stupid end up dead. Having Taiketsu die now...and having Touketsu punished by Souketsu afterwards (yeah, didn't expect him to do it, must have had reserve arrows after the Gekkou fight) just feels perfect seeing it done with the feeling that karma removes the trash as opposed to merely the previous chapter. Meanwhile...while Toramaru really did do nothing, seeing him knock around Touketsu and showing his reserve finally breaking after letting Manjimaru have his revenge was epic as this series usually does. It would have been neat to have a true two-on-two, but I guess with a fight like this, it wouldn't work outside how it was done here.
