(TN: A “Yukinko” is a young female Yukionna…which obviously is the youkai in this chapter…and we’ll find out more on later. BTW: “Yukionna” is “snow woman”…though for a time I ended up translating it as “snow girl”. Another silly comment: the kanji for “onna” can also be read as “me”, thus making “Yukime” a pneumonic for “yukionna”)
Hunter: Yukinko become Yukionna. When that happens, they freeze the men that they come to love by whatever means necessary, killing them. If you see a Yukinko, you kill it immediately! That’s the law of the town!
Nube: What’s with that stupidity?
Hunter: Look!

NUBE-SENSEI’S GREAT YOUKAI ENCYCLOPEDIA

22. Yukionna

They’re also called Yukijorou.

They’re beautiful female youkai who appear in the snowy mountains of winter but since their personality and behavior differ by area, there may be a few races. This representative story follows this.
-Walking on a snowy street at night, a young woman leading a child appears. Due to their badgering to hold their child, their entire body freezes and they die when they hold it.
-A winter mountain hut appears, linked to the pledge of kidnapping a man with their beauty. At daybreak, the man has his life essence stolen away and they die.
-On the night of January 15th, they appear leading a large crowd of children and they’re left to play with the children within the snow.
(There are no other reasons for what they do)

There are various other stories aside from those, but commonly they say there are three points:
1. They’re a woman unequaled in beauty.
2. They’re relatively kind to children.
3. They pour an exceedingly passionate love to men that suit them, but are exceedingly cold-hearted to men that don’t suit them.

…However, aren’t they extremely ideal women to men? Perhaps these yukionna may be youkai brought forth by the desires of men who are seeking the ideal woman. It’s near to a man to have a girl that is a beauty, likes children, is just kind to me and just loves me…ha!

N…no, I’m just absolutely fine, because of course I earnestly have Ritsuko-sensei. But she was actually cute…the refreshing feeling of a short-cut is fine and…those teary eyes …u—mu…

(*Annotation: Afterwards, Nube-sensei ended up being completely soaked in his own world. (for around 3 hours and 50 minutes). Furthermore, since Yukime-san pleased both authors Makura and Okano and had high popularity among the assistants, she may be back often after this. –by Kyouko)

TN: Reality check time again: anyone here played Jump Ultimate Stars? While I can probably make quite a few complaints regarding Nube's representation in the game (Why isn't he playable and only an assist!? THEY CAN HAVE MULTIPLE NARUTO AND BLEACH CHARACTERS BUT NOT EVEN JUST NUBE HIMSELF!?...then again I've never played it), there were four characters represented in the game itself: Nube, Hiroshi, Kyouko...and Yukime. Yeah, I will probably end up saying what I did with Tamamo (just to keep things in perspective to the TL): maybe she was just notable and popular and that's why she got in the game as an assist character. (though you saw from the entry at the end: she will be appearing more eventually...when, you'll just have to wait and see) But this is the chapter where she first pops up in and...you can probably see immediately why she is so popular and notable in the Nube saga.

From the perspective of this chapter itself, it is refreshing to actually have Yukime as not really a "love rival/potential" like she's depicted later, but mostly just a base yukionna who thinks she knows about love but is only guided by what she thought she knew being a yukionna: you fall for a male, you freeze him, eternal love. Of course, Nube sort of does understand (well that and he really doesn't want to get involve with the love of a youkai and a human due to the dangers) and that's why he tried to get rid of her (the parts with the sukiyaki and the "disco?" were hilarious...and it was cute to see Yukime pull up shaved ice out of nowhere), but Yukime just feels conflicted in feeling the concept of "love" but not quite understanding the definition to beings outside the love that yukionna give. Then again, with Nube finally reawakening due to his students nearly getting killed by her probably taught Yukime that there is a difference between her concept of "love" and what we humans feel/see as "love". This chapter is very definitive and will eventually continue to evolve once (if maybe) the yukionna returns...but hey, we'll take that when it comes. Then again, maybe Nube will just forget this ever happen, go back to Ritsuko and Yukime will just stay where she is and wait forever for Nube to return.........yeah, like Yukime would do that after all she went through this chapter!
