Just when you think that only defeating one leader is bad enough...Ryouzanpaku has three troubles for Otokojuku! But is the giant boxer J really the right match for the small hyper Hakuhou!?

Chp. 195: Secret Art: Taidousatsu

169.
Hakuhou: Aah--!?
Hakuhou: Ooh---!! Come down here, you daredevil----! Kakkaka, steadily finish your salutations of farewell to this world to your allies----!!

170.
Ryoukou: He’s the same as ever.
Sanen: Fu: but we do possess a terrifying little brother……there’s never now has been a person who has fought Hakuhou and lived.
Togashi: Wh…what’s with that brat, coming out foolishly!!
Toramaru: And…making matters words, he’s sitting on the battleground and eating bentou----!! Do…don’t be concerned by that, J!! Be…beat up that audacious brat with your Mach Punch----!
Toramaru: E…even so, it’s truly funny that this shrimp is one of the three heads of Ryouzanpaku---!!
Togashi: Wahahaha: he’s so miscast~~~~!!
Momotarou: ……………No, I don’t think as such. That small Hakuhou……I feel something eerie that’s completely unlike our enemies until now…………!!
Toramaru: Huh!?

171.
(Title page…the giant boxer vs. the little shrimp…Momo better be right or else this won’t be much of a match)

172.
Hakuhou: Ah—boy am I stuffed. Well—then, shall we do some light digesting exercises after this meal?
Hakuhou: Ooh~~~!? That stance is for a guy who’s into “boxong” as it’s called in the west. I can see that.
(TN: Yeah, Hakuhou obviously mispronounced “boxing”, pronounced in Japanese as “bokusongu” or “box song”)
Hakuhou: Well, come at me from wherever you want.

173.
J: It’s for your own good to not mock me. I’m not going easy even because my opponent’s a brat.

174.
J: …………!!
J: Huh!?
Hakuhou: Kakkakak: that’s quite a terrifying punch. Good, good.
Toramaru: Wh…what---!!
Togashi: Th…that brat caught J’s punch with a speed that can’t be seen by the eye w…with the chopsticks he ate his bentou with----!!

175.
J: Ku!!
Hakuhou: Otto
J: Nu!?
Hakuhou: He—y, where are your eyes attached to---!! I’m right here----!!
J: …………!!

176.
Hakuhou: N—really, that was done quite hatefully, big brother. I can’t have a match without devoting myself to my nimble movements with a merely-wide battlefield like this.
Hakuhou: Right, I’ve thought of a good idea.
Toramaru: Wh…what’s with that brat!?
Togashi: He…he’s suddenly drawing a line on the battleground.
Hakuhou: How’s this?

177.
Hakuhou: A boxong ring is about this wide.
Hakuhou: I won’t be leaving outside even a step from in here!! I’ll acknowledge defeat and take out my stomach the moment take even a step out.
(TN: I really didn’t like translating it as such but the term that was used by Hakuhou here is “hara wo kassabaku”, which is “abandon/desert” my stomach. It does seem to be “commit harikiri/seppuku” but can’t say that since it doesn’t even involve “cutting open the stomach” like that is)
J: Fine: I’ll strike that big mouth, have you wring your own neck and make you repent in hell.
Hakuhou: Fuffuffu: really…………!?
Toramaru: Th…that guy, doing that mocking behavior----!!
Togashi: G…go at him, J!! Ki…kill that conceited brat----!

178.
Hakuhou: !?
Hakuhou: Hou, now you’re starting to use your legs? Haha—that’s what’s called footwork in that boxong.
Hakuhou: Th…that’s great foot judgement. No matter how I run, you’ll slowly approach and corner me.

179.
Hakuhou: Aah, n…no, ev…even this quickly, I…don’t have a behind anymore---!!
J: !!
Hakuhou: Such is despaired.
Hakuhou: I wasn’t in a pinch at all.

180.
J: Nuu!!
J: Hoi!!

181.
Hakuhou: Kakkaka: no matter how many times we do it, it’s futile---!! I can’t be defeated with that level----!
Toramaru: Uoo---!! Wh…what’s with th…that brat’s light body---! He…he wasn’t grazed at all b…by J’s punch----!!
J: Th…this is stupid: even possessing my footwork, he’ll avoid it without trouble like that………………!! He isn’t just merely nimble, it’s as if he seems like he’s inferring beforehand the punch I send out.
Hakuhou: Fuffuffu: it seems you’ve finally realized it. Indeed, I understand the Law of Taidousatsu!!
(TN: “Law of Taidousatsu” or “Taidousatsu no Hou” = “Law of Body-Movement Judgment”)
J: Law of Taidousatsu…………!?

182.
Hakuhou: If you don’t know, I’ll tell you: what’s called the human body certainly appears to have subtle changes in muscles, facial expression and breathing at the verge the body is given orders.
Hakuhou: However you try to avoid inferring it, these changes emerge without connection to your own will. I can be reasoned in having perfect foresight in your movement from this.
J: …………!!
Raiden: Nuu, he’s a dreadful man…………!! A…a person who doesn’t have the age like him has mastered the Law of Taidousatsu……………!!
Commentary:
Taidousatsu…In the body are Taidou Points which possess the relay function of motion nerves that communicate the will from the brain whenever motion occurs. The application and perfection in kenpou of seeing through the changes in Taidou Points is Taidousatsu.

Incidentally, circles around the eyes are particularly the concentration of Taidou Points and is what explains “The eyes have one language everywhere”, a proverb from ancient times.
-From “Chinese Kenpou that Inquires From Medical Perspectives”, Minmei Publishing

(TN: A couple things:
1. “Taidou Points = “Taidouten”; essentially it’s similar to “Taidousatsu” but replacing “satsu” (judgment) with “ten” (point)
2. “The eyes have one language everywhere” is a notable quote noted in English by George Herbert, but in Japanese (and probably Chinese) is “Me wa kuchihodo ni mono wo iu”…and I really don’t know if it’s ancient or not, considering it is notable but it’s hard to say if it’s actually ancient or just another “Minmei matter”)

183.
Hakuhou: Kakkaka, do you understand: it isn’t possible that you even have a one-in-ten thousand chance in winning against me. Now I’ll attack.
Hakuhou: Big brother’s punch has suitable power if I’m hit by it, but I can’t lose to that.
Alley-oop.
(TN: “Here we go” is “Yokkorasho”, which is a slang version of “yoisho” or “heave-ho”, thus I slanged it with “alley-oop”.)
Hakuhou: There we go!!
Hakuhou: RYOUZANPAKU OUGI: SHOUTEIHA!!
(TN: “Shouteiha” = “Breaking Ram-Palm”)

184.
Hakuhou: It’s roughly like that.
Toramaru: Wh…what---!! Th…that brat broke a rock into small pieces with the palm of his hand----!
Momotarou: This isn’t a mere palm thrust………!! Is he a master of the qigong method as well…………!!
(TN: I had a bit of difficulty translating this line due to two factors:
1. First, Momo makes mention of an attack known as “shouteidzuki”; “tsuki” (“dzuki” due to the modification due to it’s connection to the former) is “thrust”, while “shoutei” is “the sole of the palm” in reference to the palm of the hand. Considering the attack was merely a palm thrust thrown by Hakuhou, I merely went with the simplified version…though literally it’s “palm-sole thrust”
2. The question of style Momo makes towards Hakuhou is whether he’s a master of “kikouhou”. While Momo may question it due to his own “qi” mastery as revealed back in his fight with Jaki, “kikou” is literally translated as “qigong”, a notable Chinese art, yet can also have translations of “breath control” or “chi kung”. Considering Momo/Jaki's "Kihou" was the "ki" techniques the duo used in their fight, this differentiates the technique from what Hakuhou has pulled this time)
Hakuhou: Let’s go---!!

185.
Hakuhou: Fuffuffu: you pretended to avoid me to the side and actually turned to my rear.
J: !!
Hakuhou: And then feint with the right punch, actually intending to aim for my face with the left punch.

186.
Hakuhou: I should have said that I understand all of your movements----!!
J: Gaha!!
J: Guku!!
Togashi & Toramaru: J---!!
Hakuhou: Knockdown----!!

187.
Hakuhou: Start the count---!! One, two, three
J: It seems your big mouth wasn’t just conceited……………!! You’re the first to have sunk me to the mat………………!!
Hakuhou: Fuffufu, well, that’s fine. You’re the first to have come to have taken my Shouteiha and gotten up…………………!!
(End of Volume 21)

TN: It's been a while since we've seen J getting as torn apart as he is right now...but then again most of what he's had has been way easier compared to a lot of other Otokojuku fighters. Most of the time J just seems to go right in, destroy his opponent (or have a bit of trouble like when Momo fought him in his own element of boxing) and then goes right back up. (or as in the Kyousatsu: just burns out while winning his match and seeming to get killed) But Hakuhou is somewhat different from most of what J fought up until now: yes he has fought and defeated kenpoists, but someone as small as Hakuhou with that much power is obviously a much smaller and harder target for even the boxer to take apart. Meanwhile...I think Hakuhou is just made for this series. It's been a while since we've had some weirdo with personality actually fighting (last I can imagine was back when Toramaru was first introduced...before he and Togashi were mostly reduced to sideline commentary) considering how many stoic or serious fighters we've seen...with weird styles but the that's only silley or weird things about them: their martial arts. On the other hand, Hakuhou has a more conventional (but slightly weird with his movement reading abilities) martial arts, but is more about personality. In a way I actually wouldn't mind him returning...if he survives J that is!
