(TN: This is a silly joke here regarding costs: while eel is considered a notable delicacy in Asian culture, including in Japan, it is usually really expensive due to low stocks. Of course…compared to the high price of eel, ramen is cheap)
Kyouko: That is like you after all, Nube.

TN: First of all, an apology: I did this chapter yesterday, I just was too absent-minded and forgot to put it up.

As for the chapter...I personally consider this chapter to be a major turning point in the story as it has been told so far. As we've seen with the development of the students, they've been evolving from merely being the victims of the youkai attacks to assisting Nube in some form or another to even starting to handle youkai threats on their own...sometimes with a bit of his help (the gym incident with the "5th Person"; Kyouko's showdown with the Red Vest), others...well, they're getting there. (the climbing samurai ghost...yeah they did stop him but it was a fluke they were able to discover the princess' corpse in the tree) But here, in one chapter, we actually see for once the students actually fighting and nearly defeating a youkai...well yeah, Nube was there to finally smash it with the Oni no Te, but everything was their plan and essentially all based on Katsuya's incident with the Hatamonba Sword. Not only does it allow for us to refer back to other incidents and show that there is continuity and growth, but this shows that the students are becoming capable in handling the supernatural on their own even with Nube out of commission. Meanwhile with Nube...well, I thought he was more like Two-Face than the Phantom of the Opera with his first appearance with the Jinmenso, but seeing him vulnerable shows that he isn't perfect and that even though he is enthusiastic about the supernatural, he isn't invincible and falls for these problems too. Heck, this chapter even may hint at future events with Ritsuko-sensei: before the students ruined her POV, she actually started getting a good impression there is more to Nube than she's seen...of course, with everything they've been through, she may not see that for a while. (if ever)
