Hell Teacher Nube 56
The Strongest Tag-Team of Nube & Yukime!
-> RTS Page for Hell Teacher Nube 56
Although in exile from her home, Yukime is making the best of her situation...by trying to woo Nube any chance she has! Of course, sometimes the best way to win hearts is to share hobbies, which could lead to a very frigid rendezvous...
#56: The Strongest Tag-Team of Nube & Yukime!
107.
Yukime
A yukionna saved by Nube 5 years ago. Yearning for Nube, she came down from the mountain. At present, she works part-time at an ice-skating rink in the town of Doumori while waiting for the day when she can marry Nube. 16 years old.
(TN: As I mentioned prior, the kanji for “Yukime” is the same as “Yukionna”, thus the double-usage here. Oh…and note her keychain…I think someone’s obsessed)
108.
Announcer: Next is the news of the “Serial Pass-Bye Killing Demon” that is occurring within the town of Doumori. This criminal is performing quite degenerate actions that are said to be carrying a mountain-climbing knife under cover and slash at passers-by amidst crowds of people…
(TN: “Serial Pass-Bye Killing Demon” is in Japanese “Renzoku Tsujigirima”; “Renzoku” is “consecutive” or “Serial” while “tsujigiri” is “a person who kills passer-bys to test a new sword”)
Hiroshi: This is fright—ening—
Nube: N—all of you should be careful too.
Kyouko: Don’t say that so optimistically, Nube, do something—
Nube: Dummy, I’m a teacher. I’m not Gekkou Kamen.
(TN: “Gekkou Kamen”, also known as “Moonlight Mask”, is one of the first TV tokusatsu heroes, originally appearing on Japanese TV as TV’s first hero in 1958. He is notable in his appearance for dressing like a sheik complete with a turban, cloak and sunglasses to hide his identity)
Kyouko: Eh—I thought you were the same kind as a tokusatsu hero—
109.
Hiroshi: Yukime-san.
Yukime: Shh--…
Caption: Yukime-san: the yukionna in love with Nub. Is a part-timer at a skating rink in town.
(TN: The expression used for “in love” uses the expression of “ho no ji”, with the “ho” in reference to “horeru”, the verb for “to be in love”)
Kyouko: She came to meet with Nube. How sweet.
SFX: Soro~~soro~~
Nube: Fua~~(yawn~~)
Yukime: Tea-ch-er (heart)
SFX: Fu (blow)
SFX: Paki—n | Piki piki piki
Nube: Gyaaaaa
Nube: Y…you youkai, are you trying to kill me~~
(TN: Nube merely just goes “ore wo korosu”, which is merely “are you going to kill me”, but somehow it didn’t feel right here and I emphasized with the “trying” part)
Yukime: No, I was just coercing you a bit.
110.
Nube: --Huh? What exactly is your business with me?
Yukime: But…can’t I come to meet with you at all since we’re living in the same town~~I want to see you at any cost.
SFX: Moji moji… (Fidget fidget)
Nube: If you weren’t really a youkai—
Yukime: Today is Saturday, so can’t you come to the skating rink where I part-time this afternoon?
Kyouko: Eh? Can we come too?
Hiroshi: Let’s go—Nube, it’s just going out—
Nube: Can just all of you go? Because I’m busy with work…
Nube: Hey—it’s work, I have work—
Kyouko: He—you’re working as a skating instructor.
Hiroshi: An instant rakuda?
(TN: I really wished there was an easier way for this joke to work but it really doesn’t work without the Japanese because of Hiroshi’s diagram. Basically, Kyouko refers to Yukime’s job as an “instructor”, which in Japanese is “Insutorakutaa”. But of course Hiroshi, weirdo that he is, thinks that it is “Insutanto Rakuda”, which basically “Instant Camel”…with the instant is of course referring to “instant food” akin to ramen. If it weren’t for Hiroshi’s diagram, I swear I’d have made a good pun with it.)
SFX: Zuru zuru zuru

SFX: Shaaaa
112.
Kyouko: Magnificent—like Katarina Witt.
(TN: Katarina Witt is a notable (East) German gold medal figure skater who won two golds both in the 1984 Olympics in Sarajevo and 1988 in Calgary)
Nube: Obviously. It’s because she’s a yukionna, not a human.
Hiroshi: Somehow Nube is cold to Yukime-san.
Yukime: Teacher--! Can’t we skate together?
Kyouko: Hey hey, go.
Yukime: Ufufu: A double-team in figure skating with Nueno-sensei. With this, two hearts will become one.
SFX: Dogyun | Gashu gashu gashu
Yukime: Ah.
Yukime: Sp…speed skating?
Kyouko: Like Kuroiwa.
(TN: Kyouko mentions a speed-skater named “Kuroiwa”, but it’s really hard to determine which Kuroiwa she’s mentioning, particularly since there are two of note: Toshiyuki, who won the Silver Medal in the 500 meters in the 1992 Olympics in Albertville, France; and Akira, who was a Japanese world champion in speed skating in 1983 and won a bronze in 500 meters in Calgary in 1988)
Hiroshi: Nube really is strong in athletic things—
113.
Yukime: Teacher, let’s skate together—
SFX: Gasha gasha gasha
Nube: I love skating with resolution by myself.
Yukime: I beg you, please stop!
Nube: It’s noisy one-by-one, including you!!
Yukime: Kya--!! (to herself) That’s why I said to stop but~~~
SFX: Dogo—n
Nube: Ge
Yukime: N—I thought humans became passionate couples at skating rings but—are there exceptions after all…
SFX: Ba—n | Bu
114.
Yukime: Hi…Hiroshi-kun, Kyouko-chan, th…th…th…they’re daring~~
Hiroshi: Ukuku, skating like this
Kyouko: Y…you’re wrong—it’s because that Hiroshi can’t do skating.
Hiroshi: Uwaa
SFX: Tsuru | momi (squish) | Zuru
Kyouko: Kyaa!!
Kyouko: No~~o, not there~~!!?
SFX: Tsuru | Gaba | Momi | Kyu
Hiroshi: You’re saying that—
SFX: Kaa~~
Yukime: Aah…it’s so aggresive… (Wa, those two are amazing.)
Caption: When she’s aroused, a Tohoku Dialect comes out.
(TN: A “Tohoku dialect” is a notable Japanese dialect known for the super-heavy accent and various differences with common Japanese including a mixture of “I” and “E” sounds and heavy usage of voiced consonants. Due to how difficult it really is to make regional dialects work in a translation [and due to how infrequent Yukime gets like this], I’ll be trying my best to get this translated appropriately and keep it in common language instead of any emphasis)
Yukime: Aa~~h, I’m envious~~
SFX: Doro doro doro (melt melt melt)
Man: Waa--!! She’s melting—
Yukime: Ri…right—he’s awkward somehow. He’ll be bad so we can thoroughly skate as a pair!
Yukime: So, Nueno-sensei will come to not skate. (heart)
SFX: Moko

SFX: Doka
SFX: Pi | Baki
SFX: Pi Pi Pi | Doka Baki Gusha
Yukime: Arara—Nueno-sensei. (heart) You’re unskilled at skating—shall I lend a hand?
SFX: Sui~~
Nube: Dummy! How can I, who called myself “the young noble of the rink” and “the swan on the ice” in my student days, be super-clumsy!?
Yukime: Even so—unskilled is unskilled. It’s as if, I say, a warthog that drowns in a river—or a daikon grub wriggling on burning asphault—
Everyone: Ahahaha
Yukime: Because of this—I’ll take your hand, your leg, your hip and teach you… (kya [heart]) Ah, huh?
116.
Yukime: Nueno-sensei…

Yukime: Why are you avoiding me?
Nube: Like I said since earlier: I am a human; you are a youkai.
SFX: Buaa
Yukime: ……
Nube: Even my lifespan to yours and the environments we live in are too different. I’m pleasant that it’s become love but…
Nube: The wall between us two is too large. Therefore…forgiving my heart for you is…

Nube: !
Nube: Watch out!
119.
Nube: Wait!
“Killer”: Chi; a severe intruder came in.
Nube: Hiroshi!
Hiroshi: Owow…he cut my shoulder…
Nube: That guy!
Nube: Wait!!
SFX: Dorururu dorururu
“Killer”: Goodbye!
SFX: Burororo
Nube: Damn…he has a bike!
Yukime: Teacher, the criminal!?
Nube: He got away! S**t, if I just wasn’t wearing these skates.
Nube: While I’m stuck…I let the criminal who wounded my student escape before my eyes!
120.
Yukime: No, let’s chase him: the two of us!!
“Killer”: Fufu, he was a stupid man. I’ll go home and watch my great activities on the news.
Nube: Wait--!

Nube: A…youkai combination…
Newspaper Headline: A Distinguished Youkai Combination

SFX: Ga---n…
Kyouko: Saying something or another, those two are splendid…

-He gets really afraid. (#17: The Mystery of Teketeke)
-The most forgetful person in school (#39: Forgotten Things from 20 Years Ago)
TN: First of all, I think that the ease of this chapter to translate was compensated somehow or another by all these crazy language jokes preventing me from just speeding right through it. Trying to find the right way to depict Hiroshi's "Instant Rakuda" joke would have been way easier if he didn't just put a camel in a cup of ramen and expect to keep it around. Trust me, I tried but I just had no choice with that joke. Likewise...considering how rare "Tohoku-ben" is even used in manga, I was a bit surprised Yukime would have that as one of her weird traits. Probably shows how far north she comes from though but of course...she has to be considering it snows more I guess. (though she could be a Hokkaido yukionna but somehow their dialects could be worse)
Second, this chapter...well, it really didn't progress the Yukime sub-plot too far but it was still cute. It sort of reiterated some ideas from the last chapter (Yukime starting to become respectful of humans and facing down bad ones, Nube's consistent resistance for love due to human/youkai relations, Yukime's utter obliviousness regarding anything that isn't Nube) but it wasn't a retread, more just developing along the story. Though...I did find it a tad weird and convenient that Nube was stuck in skates when the media-obsessed stabber attacked, forcing him to work with Yukime to even travel around. But then again it also shows a bit of how human he is: unlike many heroes who seem to TF and have what they need to get around, Nube acknowledges the time it takes to take off skates, leading to the ease (and Yukime's delight) of the ice path to use the skates with. Though...I think somehow that Yukime may need to stop trying to approach him when he's at a heater since she isn't paying attention in snowman form. (it's cute when she pops out but hard to talk to a snowman over the actual yukionna)
