Hell Teacher Nube 57
The Shugorei Social Gathering
-> RTS Page for Hell Teacher Nube 57
When problems arise, sometimes there may be a greater influence at work causing them. In the case of Katsuya, his delinquent troubles may force Nube to approach someone really close to straighten him out!
#57: The Shugorei Social Gathering
127.
Caption: Morosely Lewd
128.
Sign: Staff Office
SFX: So~~~…
Caption: Kimura Katsuya: The most cool in Nube’s class, quite delinquent.
(TN: The “quite delinquent” is given through the addition of “ppoi” at the end of “furyou” (delinquent), which would be read as “furyouppoi” and translated typically as “full of delinquency”)
SFX: Gu~~gu~~ | Shu—Shu--
(TN: “Seven Stars” is a brand of Japanese cigarettes notable for the innovation of low-tar, menthol and D-spec cigarettes)
SFX: Sa | Pi
129.
SFX: Pi pi
Nube: ………
SFX: Pi----
Narrator: Nube had a bit of complexity with it. Katsuya’s habit of stealing was, even now, had been advised and preached at many times. Every time, Katsuya seemed to reconsider and yet…
SFX: Zuzu
Nube: After all, the power of me as a teacher is for this sort of thing. It’s difficult to be a teacher.
130.
Ishikawa: Ariri? Didn’t you know there were cigarettes that were here?
Nube: Eh? We…well.
Ishikawa: Ah—that’s unpleasant. I do have a habit of taking out money in the cigarette box. I’m sure it was 5,000 yen…
Katsuya: This is bad…how could there be a 5,000 yen note in there? This is some jo—ke. With this I’m a real thief.
Katsuya: But…well, I’ll be silent and won’t get ex—posed……
SFX: Goku
131.
Kyouko: It’s half-off used software in front of the station—
Hiroshi: Eeh, I’ve used up my allowance for the month~~
SFX: Wai wai | Gaka gaka
Katsuya: Hehe, lucky—I’ve got special revenue—
Box: Trash Can
Nube: Katsuya.
Katsuya: Well, taking out trash, taking out trash.
Nube: ………………
Nube: That guy. Doesn’t he even possess even by chance the conscious of that crime of stealing money?
SFX: Shun…
Nube: Whatever I do will be fine. This is a problem of Katsuya’s inside…I’ve got no choice: I have to do that after a long time.
132.
Nube: Um—this is sudden but I’m calling your guardians and performing a social gathering next period.
(TN: “Social Gathering” is in Japanese “Kondankai”, with “kondan” being an “informal talk”, sort of like, I guess, a “parent-teacher conference”)
Voice: Eh—we didn’t hear anything about that.
Hiroshi: What is he thinking: my dad’s not here with his work and can’t suddenly come back~~
Kyouko: Eh—a communication letter hasn’t gone out to the people in my house~~
SFX: Zawa zawa zawa zawa
Miki: This can’t be—you don’t have a circumstance to call them in absolute secrecy—huh?
Nube: Hahaha…actually, I’ve already called all of your guardians.
Voices: Eh~~~he’s lying~~!?
Nube: There is a guardian that I’ve particularly wanted to meet.
SFX: Boo—boo—boo—
133.
Nube: Well—then, with that—shall we begin—
Miki: Why is he closing the black-out curtain?
Kyouko: Is he starting slides?
Kyouko: There’s something strange with Nube.
Miki: There isn’t a parent anywhere, isn’t there?
Nube: The guardians that are closest to your body have come.
(TN: Nube makes a comment here of “ichiban miuchi”; while “ichiban” obviously is “the best” or the “the top”, “miuchi” has two separate meanings, either being “relative” or “one’s body”…thus the latter is used by Nube here…trust me on that)
Nube: Namu Daiji Daihi Kyuugu Kyuunan Koudai Reikan: Spirits who protect these children; show yourselves!!
134.-135.
Nube: It’s a Shugorei Social Gathering!!
SFX: Buwaaaa
136.
Student 1: Th…these are…
Student 2: Our…Shugorei!?
Nube: Shugorei influence their personality to that person themselves. They are the guardians closest to your bodies who help you in various ways on top of being alive.
Nube: I do this once every year with the class that I’m in charge of.
Kyouko: This surely is an original social gathering for Nube.
Nube: This is more effective than speaking about my teaching plan with your parents. (to himself) Kyouko’s Shugorei, this crude personality should seem to be much more graceful.
Caption: Kyouko’s Shugorei: a warrior who was active in Sekigahara. (To know of him, consult Comic vol. 1)
(TN: You know you could give Kyouko back Senkihime if you want her to be more graceful…yeah she’ll die but it did make her way cuter)
137.
Hiroshi: Teacher, ask my Shugorei to be much more skillful in soccer!
Nube: Hmm hmm. (To himself) To Hiroshi’s Shugorei: don’t just be physically strong, you should add in intelligence.
Caption: Hiroshi’s Shugorei: A famous rowdy fisherman who was invincible in quarrels.
Miki: I want money and men and status and power!
Nube: Ri—ght, ri—ght. (to himself) Miki’s Shugorei: you do what you want every single time!
Caption: Miki’s Shugorei: A tomboy, selfish, mischief-loving princess.
(TN: It’s rather difficult to note considering the name that is given, but “hime-sama” either is a term for a “nobleman’s daughter” or a “princess”. Considering how the daughters of noblemen usually act high-class and mighty like a princess in Japanese society with their money or power, I just kept it as “princess”)
Makoto: My Shugorei is my dead grandma!
Nube: Yeah, yeah. (to himself) To Makoto’s Shugorei: please don’t spoil him too much.
138.
Nube: Well then…
“Katsuya’s Shugorei”: ZZZZZZ
Bottle: Doroburu
(TN: “Doroburu” is a brand of sake made “Genmai”, or “unmilled rice”)
Katsuya: What is he? That sleeping oldie…
Nube: Hey!!
SFX: Biku
Nube: Today’s social gathering is being held due to you. What’s with you—
Nube: Steady up your care of Katsuya! You should be able to reach him with a voice of conscious if you stopped him whenever he stole or was bad!
139.
Nube: Hmph…That’s what you’re saying. He’s a bad person from the start. I too have warned him from the beginning, but he immediately forgot it and did bad.
Katsuya: Hey hey, are you disputing something!?
Caption: Can’t hear the voices.
Nube: Shugorei! Being bad is your personality. That’s influencing even Katsuya!
Katsuya: Eh eh eh.
Nube: Shut up, it’s not futile…
Katsuya: Wh…well, is my Shugorei perhaps a bad man?
Nube: N…no, he’s an ex—tremely great spirit, fufufu…
SFX: Ki—n Ko—n Ka—n Ko—n
140.
Nube: Really…what is that Shugorei…! It completely doesn’t have the will to protect and guide Katsuya!
Nube: That guy is cooperating as a Shugorei…Katsuya will end up steadily becoming bad!
SFX: ZZZ~~
SFX: Bucha | ZZZ
Box: Trash Can
141.
Nube: Hey, you! Wake up, you lazy-bones Shugorei!!
“Shugorei”: N? What; you again? A guy is feeling well sleeping and yet
Nube: You’re sleeping though you’re a spirit!!
Nube: You’re Katsuya’s Shugorei! What’s your idea of leaving Katsuya and sleeping here? What’s wrong with Katsuya!?
SFX: Fuwa
“Shugore”: I dunno—about that bad person. I now almost can’t be by his side.
Nube: Wait! Are you giving up on Katsuya? A human whose been abandoned by a Shugorei will come to not have success no matter what they do…! Do you understand that everything will go in a bad direction and his life will come to be ruined!?
142.
Nube: Did you become a Shugorei so you could protect Katsuya!? Are you fine with Katsuya becoming misfortunate!?
“Shugorei”: Well, I am his ancestor. I do want my descendants to be blessed.
Nube: So then, return immediately!
“Shugorei”: No way! I’ve reached great displeasure for that brat! A spirit is originally a human! We have a right to choose the person we possess!!
Nube: Right…in that case, I have no choice. A being like you will come to make Katsuya’s future unreasonable as his Shugorei.
“Shugorei”: !!
143.
Nube: You’re returning to that world! And then I’ll exchange you with another Shugorei. Namu Daiji Daihi Kyuugu Kyuunan……
Nube: Rest in peace!
144.
Nube: !?
SFX: Gara
Voice: So, you were simply were left with the cigarettes and have come to return yourself what was inside there.
Ishikawa: You’re stupidly honest with that money. At any rate, there may be a penalty for stealing the cigarettes.
Katsuya: ………………
145.
Katsuya: Oh well…whatever it is. I’m certain that if this was the me of long ago, I would have been silent all along. But if I did that, then I may be suspected by other people…because if those softhearted colleagues treat me as a criminal with it my fault…I’d hate…that…
Ishikawa: Understood…you’re independent in thinking that you don’t want to be given troubles by your friends…I’ll forgive you with a slap that exempts this courage; is that resolution fine?
SFX: Hama—
Katsuya: Yes.
SFX: Bachi—n
Katsuya: Ow~~~
146.
Nube: He’s…extremely changed over an unknown period…
“Shugorei”: Understood: he may not be abandonable yet. I too was careless with him.
SFX: Bo
Nube: Right…both Shugorei and people have a connection that is practical from having mutual confidence. Just the spirit had been mistaken in persuading him…
SFX: Suu…
Nube: Katsuya.
Katsuya: Nub…
Nube: Here—alright alright, well—well—drink this cup, drink it. More, more.
Stand: Oden.
Ishikawa: Al—right, next we’ll hop over to karaoke. (Gahahahaha)
(TN: “Hop over” is in Japanese “Hashigo”; typically the word for “ladder” or “stairs”, it also has a meaning tied to the word of “hashigozake” or “barhopping”, thus why I had it in conjunction to having them hop to a karaoke bar)
Katsuya: There isn’t a reason for a grade schooler to drink! These delinquent teachers~~!!
TN: I'm a tad confused looking over this chapter and what exactly happened. I sort of get some of the concept: that Katsuya was bad and that it may or may not have been an effect of his Shugorei being off duty. But somehow the way it was painted in the chapter, the delinquency was all Katsuya's fault and not the Shugorei's. I sort of see that but somehow Nube was right: even if Katsuya was possibly at fault with what has happened, the spirit should have done his job better instead of just trying to give up on him. Then again, as we've seen with Katsuya in the past, most of the time his delinquent actions are because of his own nature and some of the personal situation he has. When he stole alms from Hatamonba temple, it was not because he was evil but because he didn't have the "tax money" to buy his sister's video game. When he threatened to cheat on a test, it wasn't because he was evil either: it was because he isn't so bright compared to most students (well...there is Hiroshi but he's another level of dumb...and Makoto at least gives effort even if it leads to little) and thought that it was the easy way out. Even in this chapter: he probably had a sense from the start to give the money back to Ishikawa, but he was still at fault because he stole cigarettes that probably could have been used by the teacher. (without getting into the whole "cancer" thing) Katsuya as we've seen isn't intentionally evil...maybe he is delinquent but it's mostly for purpose or reason, but he still shows decency enough that the Shugorei should have done more instead of just giving up on him like he nearly did. But then again you could understand the weariness when seeing how he does things even if there is always some sort of reason behind...well, why.
Oh...and somehow I thought it was cool that we did meet all the other Shugorei's aside from Katsuya's (and Kyouko's...as I said, if she wants to be cuter, she probably needs Senkihime back...or someone like her who isn't as murderous) Hiroshi and Miki...both had those that fit them to a tee strangely enough. (you do sort of wonder though if a few others could have been seen somewhere...but the focus was on Katsuya's so it's lucky we mostly got the "main five"...and yeah, you pretty much can say Katsuya is "main five" by now since Akira really hasn't been seen too often aside a few shots here or there as of late...which is strange considering he was once the main student in that first pilot)
