Sakigake!! Otoko Juku 224
The Arena of Hell!!
-> RTS Page for Sakigake!! Otoko Juku 224
Toramaru finally has a chance to fight against a member of the Meiou Island 16-Warriors, but must do so in a showdown of Japanese and Mongolian sumo! Can the Otokojuku student win in a match where the final destination is hell?
Chp. 224: The Arena of Hell!!
27.
Toramaru: DORYAA----!!
Togashi: Yosshaa, splendid opening-charge, Toramaru---! Ma…make that pig-man realize the true power that is said to be slapping the yokozuna in town sumo---!!
(TN: A few sumo terms here that we have to go into here:
1. “Opening-charge” = “Tachiai”, which is an opening charge in a sumo match
2. “Yokozuna” is the highest possible rank in sumo, usually based on the top of the top in sumo wrestling but I guess can speak regarding local ones as well in this case.
“Town Sumo” = “Murazumou”, which is a local town sumo contest as opposed to an actual sumo match tied to one of the six sumo divisions in Japan)
Momotarou: Town sumo……!?
28.
Toramaru: UOO~~~!!
29.
Toramaru: Nuryaa---!!
Toramaru: Kee---!! Guo!~~~!! Dosuko---i!! Soryaa~~~!!
Kyrgyz: Fu, what are you doing? Do you intend to push like that by just yelling!?
Toramaru: That guy…………!! It’s…as if he can’t move even a bit, like roots have grown into his feet!!
30.
Toramaru: Uo!!
Kyrgyz: Fu, what’s with this rubber fundoshi!?
Kyrgyz: I forgot to mention this, but in Chaga Porte, there isn’t a connection in falling to the ground at any time. It’s limited in not being thrown from this arena to the depths of hell!!
Toramaru: Sh…shut it: if I knew that---!!
Kyrgyz: And you’re free to even use any forbidden move of sumo.
(TN: Another term for sumo, “kinjite” is a “forbidden move” in sumo, which are moves including pulling hair, hitting with a closed fist, boxing an ear, choking or grabbing a mawashi)
Toramaru: Gufu!!
31.
Toramaru: Uwaaa~~~!!
Kyrgyz: Fufu: it’s an opponent whose doing this while getting chewed up.
Toramaru: Y…you!!
32.
Toramaru: Hehhehe: you’re a large udo!! If it’s about swiftness, then the skill is with me!
(TN: An “udo” (Aralia cordata), also known as the Japanese spikenard, is an herbaceous perennial plant usually used for medicine or boiled in miso soup. However the “you’re a large udo” is tied to a Japanese expression of “udo no taiboku”, which literally is “a large wooden udo tree”; the expression has a meaning of “useless” due to the softness of udo compared to the defensive strength of a tree, even if both plants are large)
Togashi: Ri…right, Toramaru: don’t get caught by him---!! Mo…move around like that and aim for an opening in him---!!
33.
Kyrgyz: You’re frantic like a mouse!! But do you think you can run forever!!
Toramaru: Ke, what are you saying!! If you’re mortified, then catch me! He~~y, oni-san, this way~~!!
(TN: Toramaru’s “oni-san, this way” comment is tied to the Japanese version of tag, where the kids are trying to escape from an “oni”)
Toramaru: Hyo—even so, that’s amazing sweat!! Is there a difference in over-harvesting moisture, old guy!!
34.
Toramaru: Uo!!
Toramaru: Y…you dummy: fr…from your sweating freely too much, didn’t it gather on the arena and make me slip---!!
Toramaru: Ku!!
35.
Toramaru: Uoo, a….again---!!
Toramaru: Uuh……!! Wh…what exactly is that………!!
Kyrgyz: THIS IS MONGOL SANKYOUSEN OUGI: SHOUKATSU RYUUKAN!!
(TN: “Shoukatsu Ryuukan” = “Far-and-wide-Slippery Collecting-Sweat”)
Toramaru: WHA!?
36.
Kyrgyz: Fufu: you should look closely.
Kyrgyz: My sweat is already completely covering the whole surface of this arena!!
Toramaru: …………!!
Kyrgyz: This sweat contains a portion that’s a large quantity of fat; so you say, it’s an thing that’s like a special oil. With this, you’ve come to not be able to move about!!
Kyrgyz: Well, I’ll be fine in this way!!
37.
Toramaru: A…are you joking with me an…and squeezing fat from your body~~~!! I…I was thinking that you surely were a pig but it seems you’re a common toad.
(TN: The “common toad” is in reference to “gamagaeru”, also known as the Japanese toad [Bufo Japonicus], a toad common to Japan…though it probably could refer to any sort of toad)
Kyrgyz: Out of the way---!!
Toramaru: Ku!!
Toramaru: Soryaa, I’ve been caught---!!
38.
Toramaru: Uoo!!
Kyrgyz: Nun!!
Toramaru: Ugya!!
Togashi: To…Toramaru~~!!
Kyrgyz: Fuffuffu: a person who is the most worried lets out as they want to that they want to call me a pig or a toad!! What I have is a personality that gets hurt easily!!
39.
Kyrgyz: Hey, this isn’t the situation to be fainting!!
Kyrgyz: Uwahhahaha: realize this----!!
40.
Toramaru: Guku!!
Kyrgyz: Fu, that was utterly too quick a match.
Kyrgyz: Well, you’re going to die.
Kyrgyz: But I am a deeply compassionate man who can be called Kyrgyz Khan the Merciful even among the Mongol Sankyousen. If you cancel those thoughtless words about me that you spoke of earlier, then I’ll say nothing of taking your life.
Kyrgyz: Well, what will you do!? This is your last chance.
41.
Togashi: To…Toramaru, it…it’s as he said: give him an apology---!! Th…the burden of this match was too heavy for you after all----!!
Kyrgyz: Hu~~~h!?
Toramaru: Ah…yeah; I…understand………………y…you’re not a pig or a toad……..
Kyrgyz: Fufu: right; that’s fine.
Toramaru: I…I’ve looked closer……y…your face is exactly like a warthog.
Kyrgyz: Wh…what---!! A…warthog----!
42.
Kyrgyz: Y…you---!! It’s…it’s better that you go flying to the end of Hell---!!
Togashi: To…Toramaru---!! He…he killed Toramaru---!!
43.
Kyrgyz: Fuffuffu: that foolish man. He lost his life with that insignificant spirit.
Togashi: To…Toramaru…………th…that Toramaru has…………wh…what exactly will I from here……
Momotarou: Fu: what’s the matter with your tears, Togashi!? Otokojuku First-Year Toramaru Ryuuji……isn’t a typical man after all!!
Togashi: Huh!?
Kyrgyz: Well, you should come out, next warrior of Otokojuku. But then, that’s a story of if you have the courage to……!!
Kyrgyz: N!?
44.
Kyrgyz: !!
Kyrgyz: Wh…what---!! Y…you---!
Toramaru: YOU DUMMY---!! Hadn’t you noticed that I tied it to this fundoshi that was made of rubber when I was hung off the cliffside by you ---!!
45.
Toramaru: The one going to hell is you~~~!!
Kyrgyz: Uooo---!!
TN: Do you realize how much I had to double-check the line around the point Toramaru revealed his trump card with the rubber mawashi? I mean the concept was simple but effective: hook the rubber band beneath the ring, recoil back up and knock Kyrgyz off to his death. But the whole line about how and where Toramaru did it just drove me nuts: in some ways it made it seem like he knew he was doing it and did it before he actually did it, but in reality just did it and...um...yeah, sumo is simple but weird with stuff like that and oily, slippery sweat. (at least it doesn't turn you to iron) Though I really did like Toramaru's running gag of calling Kyrgyz what he really is...considering he is a creep regardless, he deserves a creepy animal to be compared to.
