Raiden: It’s futile to worry!! This tender body shouldn’t be held by Sanmenken Raiden! This is none too soon for resuscitating this dulled body!!

Commentary:
Saihyou Toukai…a secret technique thought up by Kakugooru, a legendary master of Ryuukyou Hyouju, Mongolia’s ultimate dueling method. The principal of the technique is the lowering to 30 degrees below zero of the circumference temperature from an effect of Helvellyn Freezing of minute ice fragments which are produced by high-speed rotation, taking away the opponent’s body temperature and freezing them.

Incidentally, this Kakugooru, always carried on his back the flag with the one character of “Ice” as a symbol of being the king of ice. Even in modern Japan, this is the origin of the chipped ice flag that is seen in the busy summer public.

1. “Chipped Ice”, also known as “Kakigoori”, is a Japanese dish akin to “water ice” or “shaved ice”, usually seen as chopped up ice with a flavored syrup on top of it. Note that the master is named “Kakigooru” though…
2. There isn’t a “Helvellyn Freezing” concept, but Helvellyn is in reference to Mt. Helvellyn, the third-highest mountain in England
3. 30 below zero is in reference to centigrade (the main measurement of temperatures in Japan); Fahrenheit it is -22 degrees)

TN: Once again, you just have to commend Miyashita for using something that typically would seem like a death trap or disadvantageous for a showdown...and turning it into a massive plus for the hero. When I saw the sufuric acid pit, I figured the same as everyone else: you fall in there, you melt down into nothing. The fact that Raiden was able to use his sickle and chain, wrap it around his body and then send it to the acid where it would help him survive the coldness of the shaved ice attack took a lot of imagination...and that I have to applaud. Sure it feels strange Raiden has another Daioujou-ryuu battle style...but hey, he's the martial arts master and is lightest on his feet to take on Shai Khan on icy trees so it sort of makes sense. Meanwhile, you probably can tell already the monkeys are probably going to pull something to get back in this...but hey, the fact they torment Momo is probably one of his funniest bits in a while. (well funny by/against him) It's been forever since the leader has been caught in something so awkward...but monkeys do that to anyone.
