The Huge-Breasted Youkai: Nenekogappa
-> RTS Page for Hell Teacher Nube 71
Nube may have a reputation with certain humans, but it hasn't escaped the youkai community. A certain one has decided she'd take advantage of his other "line of work"...but would this "development" really be advantageous to his class!?
#71: The Huge-Breasted Youkai: Nenekogappa
49.
Boy 1: Did you see yesterday’s DBZ?
Boy 2: I did, I did—
SFX: Puka puka
SFX: Puka puka
Boy 1: Today’s school lunch was delicious.
Boy 2: I love yakisoba.
(TN: Yakisoba usually is a dish done by stir-frying ramen-style noodles with meat, vegetables and flavored with yakisoba sauce, salt and papper)
Voice 1: He—y, hadn’t the ball flown to here--?
SFX: Puka puka
Voice 2: Um—today we’re playing Dorokei—
* Abbreviation of “Cops and Robbers”. It is also called “The Villainous Detective” by region.
(TN: I kept the Japanese abbreviation mostly because there isn’t an abbreviation for the game in English. “Cops and Robbers” is fully known as “Dorobou to Keisatsu” or “Thieves and Police”. It is also abbreviated as “keidoro”)
50.
Nenekogappa: They’re nice—schools are interesting regardless of when or where-pe—
(TN: Our busty kappa here has a weird trait of saying “pe” at the end of her dialogue. I’ll be keeping that for the chapter)
Caption Box:
Nenekogappa: A female kappa who inhabits the Tone River. Her face resembles a cat and her spirit is great with a lively personality. She loves sumo, wields super-human strength and is deified at a small shrine in Tone Town, Ibaraki Prefecture.
(TN: A few notes here (outside what will be explained in the Encyclopedia):
-The kanji in “Nenekogappa”’s name literally translates into “All-the-More Female Kappa”.
-The Tone River is a river in the Kantou region and the second-longest river in Japan. Its source is at Mt. Oominakami and flows to Tokyo Bay, providing the major source of water for the greater Tokyo area.
-The town of Tone is located in Kitasouma District of Ibaraki Prefecture and, strangely, isn’t anywhere near the Tone River...but of course just because Nenekogappa is deified there doesn’t mean she has to live there.)
51.
Girl 1: In Tokyo, there is a Nube-sensei—hes’s a spiritualist teacher—
Girl 2: Eh—seriously?
Girl 1: He’ll talk about spirits and youkai as he pleases. He does student ghost problems, of course, but also does consultations with youkai and spirits…
Nenekogappa: ………

Nube: Eh, you wanted to attend school and expressedly came to ask me?
Sign: Gym Warehouse
Nenekogappa: Right-pe.
Nube: We—ll, Neneko…I’ve heard of Neneko. They reside in the Tone River, giving trouble to humans since long ago with their terrible love of pranks; they’re youkai with not much of a good reputation.
Top Caption: Draws in horses
Bottom Caption: Pulls out a Shirikodama
(TN: A “shirikodama”, which literally translates into “anus ball”, is literally a ball that, according to legend, is within the anus of a person that a kappa desires to pull out for consumption)
Nenekogappa: I won’t do that-pe~~I...I...I’ll be a good girl-pe. I’ll make friends with them-pe.
53.
Nenekogappa: I beg you-pe. Hey, it will seem like I’m going to your school. I’ve heard that you listen to the requests of youkai since you’re Nube-sensei-pe.

Katsuya: Uhyo~~amazingly~~huge boobs~~

54.
Nube: Though she’s a youkai, I’m worried about her nudity. Miki, pardon me but let me borrow your gym outfit.

Nenekogappa: Hey you, your chest is small. It’s so tight-pe.
SFX: Piki piki

55.
Nenekogappa: How about sumo-pe? Hey, we’ll do sumo!
Students: Eh~~
Kyouko: It’s cold today. Give up on that—
Nenekogappa: Don’t ramble about it! If I’m with you to do this, then we’ll do it-pe! Quickly, everyone get outside-pe~~!
SFX: Fu~~~
Miki: She’s quite a selfish youkai.
Hiroshi: Nothing we can do: well, shall we keep her company?
Katsuya: However…those huge breasts. If we face her in sumo…
Kaneda: Gufufu, we can keep touching that.
Nenekogappa: Well, come at me from anywhere-pe.

Nenekogappa: I am-pe. It’s been fun. Huh, everyone!
SFX: Shi—n…

Nenekogappa: Ooh, thanks there. You’ll be my henchmen-pe!
Kyouko: Everyone is scared and being silent about it.
Nube: ………

Nenekogappa: Next up, we’ll have a contest where we’ll see who can climb to the top of this tree the fastest-pe!
Students: Eeh~~that’s impossible. With that high tree.
Nenekogappa: Don’t complain about it---pe. I’ll pull out your shirikodama.

Voice: We can’t permit this anymore! What a girl!
Noriko: She’s going to have us do a mid-winter swim next; what do we do?
Kyouko: Drive her away!
Kyouko: Miki! What’s a kappa’s weakness!?
Miki: When they don’t have water in the saucer on their head, they become weak.
Book: YOUKAI ENCYCLOPEDIA
Miki: The best method for that is to face a kappa and bow. Thus because the lured kappa bows as well, the saucer water spills out. With that, the saucer dries up and the kappa loses its’ power.
Kyouko: That’s some stupid story.—
Students: Wa—kya—
Nenekogappa: Well—we’ll have a mid-winter swim in the pool-pe—everyone, change into your swimsuits-pe!
Student 1: Eeh!?
Student 2: We don’t have our swimsuits since its winter.
62.
Nenekogappa: So you don’t have swimsuits; I want to do this, so it will be fine if we’re naked-pe! (Kekeke…)
Girls: Kya—no~~
Nenekogappa: Hey, take it off quickly-pe!
Noriko: No—stop it—
Voice: Please stop that, you perverted erotikappa!
(TN: Kyouko ends up using a term of “erogappa”, fusing “erotic” and “kappa”; I ended up using a similar “combined term” in English)
Nenekogappa: What’s that!?
Kyouko: Don’t you understand you’re bothering everyone!? No one wants to play with someone like you!
63.
Nenekogappa: What’s that? Are you saying everyone is not having fun playing with me?
Kyouko: The one having fun is just you. Everyone else has no choice and are just going along with you because they’re scared.
Nenekogappa: You’re selling a fight with me. You have good guts-pe. Now we’ll have a match!

Students: Oh--!

Kyouko: Taa

Makoto: We hate you--!
Student: Go home to the river!
Students: Go home, go home—go home! Go home!
Nenekogappa: I…didn’t know that I was hated…I wanted to be friends with everyone-pe. I was trying with all my might because I didn’t have friends and yet…
Kyouko: Ah…
Nenekogappa: Uwaaaaah!!
67.
Hiroshi: Well, did she really not just understand the way to make friends?
Kyouko: Seems so…She’s been alone all along. Even so, this was inevitable. I do pity her.
Voice: What’s wrong: weren’t you having fun at school?
Nube: That’s what’s called school: aside from being a place where you learn studies, it’s where you learn much more important things.
Nenekogappa: Nube-sensei…
68.
Nube: A considerate heart that understands the pain and sadness of people: that’s the method to living well together with everyone. A school is actually a place where you learn that, because you can do studying even alone.
Nube: If it’s fine, go there once more. You were just awkward in your communication with people.
Voice: Neneko----!!
Kyouko: We’re sorry, come on back---!
Nenekogappa: Ah…everyone…
69.
Nenekogappa: I…I’m completely embarrassed now and I can’t return-pe. I’ll be cooling my head in the river for a while until I come to understand the feelings of humans-pe.
SFX: Zabun!
Nube: We’ll be waiting.
Kyouko: Now we will be your friends.

RETURN OF THE GREAT YOUKAI ENCYCLOPEDIA
#9: Nenekogappa
The city of Ushiku in Ibaraki Prefecture, which is the hometown of Carl Smoky Ishii of Kome Kome Club, is a town well known for kappa legend, but there is many numbers of towns which have handed down kappa legends other than there in the Tone River Basin area of the Kanto region. If you say it’s natural, then it’s natural because of the great river that is called “Bandoutarou” and possesses the largest river basin in Japan.
Well then, even among the many kappa legends, “Nenekogappa”, which is a female kappa who is particularly famous on top of unusual, is recorded in “Tone River Illustrations”. According to its legend, this female was said to be the big boss kappa of the entire area of Kanto with her as an unequalled roughneck. Her strength was well known because of her easily defeating Kyuusenbou, the boss of 9,000 kappa of Kyuushuu and Kumamoto, who had heard her rumor and challenged her to a fight.
At any rate, the pretense of rage of Nenekogappa appeared to be tremendous; it seemed to be quite a problem with the townsfolk whose children and horses were being drawn into the river and whose produce fields were being laid to waste. However, one day she stepped into a blunder, was caught by a human and appeared like she was going to be killed. The female, who frantically begged for her life and was rescued, changed her heart since then and became cooperative with the humans.
Now, the shrine that deifies Nenekogappa is in Tone Town, Kitasouma District, Ibaraki Prefecture. She seems to hold the grace of a God for many things such as marriage, luck with money and a good delivery (of children).
(TN: A few notes:
1. Ushiku, which is on a tributary towards the Tome River, is a notable city of Ibaraki Prefecture. Aside from its birthplace of kappa legends, it is also known for “Ushiku Daibutsu”, one of the tallest statues in the world.
2. The Kome Kome Club is a Japanese pop band created in 1982 notable for its combination of funk, soul and Latin music with J-Pop. Their 1992 song “Kimi ga Iru Dake da” was one of their biggest hits and was notable as the best-selling J-pop song of all time prior to the release of Southern All Stars’ “Tsunami” in 2000.
3. Tatsuya Ishii, known in the Kome Kome Club as “Carl Smoky Ishii”, is a Kome Kome Club member who was part of the band since 1985 and there during their period of biggest success.
4. “Bandoutarou”, which is a nickname for the Tone River, literally translates into “Slope-East Tarou” or “Eastern Slope Tarou”
5. “Tone River Illustrations” or “Tonezawazushi”, is an Edo-era topographical study complete with various ukio-e-style drawings written in 6 volumes by Akamatsu Soutan)
TN: Is it just me or do some language peculiarities end up being more of a hindrance in my head than help? Sometimes whenever I have like a particular "ending", it ends up being cute, like sometimes whenever a Chinese girl in a manga has an "aru" ending like, say, Kagura from Gintama. Many people don't want it but somehow it's a cute ending and I always like keeping that in my scripts. On the other hand...Nenekogappa's "pe" endings just seemed rather weird. I mean it was part of her dialect but it seemed like hearing the sound of "pe" in my head when I typed it in sounded less cute and more like it took away from what she was saying. Heck, I even didn't even mind some of Neneko's masculine tendencies...it was all the "pe" that drove me nuts. Regardless, this chapter was peculiar in it's set-up, considering that Neneko showed up to see Nube, but spent most of it dealing with the students whom she bossed around until Kyouko put her in place. Somehow some of it did make me question a few things, like Katsuya's love and hatred of wanting to be squeezed by her...I mean I sort of get males being embarrassed by a superhumanly strong youkai female, but it's weird that even someone as perverted as him would be scared off by the super-boobs the moment she throws a concrete slab away. I mean somehow I'd actually expect him to want to play submissive if only to be smothered by her gazongas. (and yeah...the whole bit with Miki's shirt...it's obvious that no one was liking Nenekogappa in any way, shape or form until she was forced to learn humility) But hey...aside from her really not being seen again (she cameos once in a later chapter but that's about it), it was unique having a "cat/kappa youkai girl who has massive boobs" running around...and makes one question the sanity of the weird perversion this manga leads people to.
