While originally a song written about the Nazis and the emerging horrors of the Holocaust with a catchy chorus, it didn't gain popularity in America until it was translated into English in the mid 1950s and covered by notable singers such as Joan Baez & Donovan. (Translator's Note: This is perhaps one of the most difficult language-based jokes I've come across in a really long time, but let me try to do it the best I can. After entering with the "Donna Donna" setup complete with cow outfits, Tennosuke turned it around by changing "Donna Donna" into "Chona Chona". Now, "chona" has no meaning whatsoever and was just used to drive Beauty nuts. But when Don Patch and Tennosuke try to turn it around, they make Beauty say "chonaruzo", which actually could be used in a couple ways. One translation is to turn it into "chou naru", which is "to become a butterfly". However, another Japanese word that is similar is "chounaru", which is the Japanese word for "ax". Trying to keep the flow of the original joke which ended up with Beauty saying "chona" leading to Don Patch & Tennosuke's freak out, I used the "ax" meaning and made "chonaruzo" into "I ax cho na" as if she was saying "I asked you" with the "na" at the end as if it was abridged Japanese. Of course seeing Don Patch and Tennosuke freaking out about being "axed" by Beauty would work...but somehow I am afraid I screwed up the joke completely. Just try to imagine it like the "asphinchtersayswhat" joke from "Wayne's World" and you probably would be able to understand it better than I told it)

Torpedo Girl's speech about "coming from the depths of hell to defeat evil Yokai" is a semi-adapted section of the introduction in the first Nube chapter (which is also used in the anime's opening), speaking of Nube coming from "the depths of hell to protect children from 'the creatures of darkness'"...which are essentially yokai so she did get that right.)

Translator's Note: Alright, I know I probably was acting like a complete and total nut when it came to the "Hell Teacher Nube" references in this chapter but this actually has a meaning. Nube is not only one of my favorite WSJ series...but its also both the first WSJ series I ever collected (prior I was collecting a few shonen from Sunday)...and the very first series I ever translated. Back in college and even a bit after, I translated the first nine + volumes of the series...it probably wasn't that good and did lead to only scanslations of the first three chapters but I felt proud for doing so. Someday I may want to go back and maybe do the whole series, maybe even starting over...but for now, its just a pipe dream with all the other stuff going on in my translations. OK, with fanboy admissions out of the way, let me tell you that this chapter was just a nightmare for me to translate. On one hand we have Shibito's Gothic Shinken, which, while a cool Shinken ability (I'll probably get a bit more into him next time since there is something important about this arc as a turning point in the series and Shibito being part of it) ends up with words that literally have no meaning! I know I probably should just transliterate them but I rather just translate them and transliterate the actual words Shibito releases. And furthermore, if Shibito wasn't a nightmare already, there was that "Chona Chona" joke: I still don't think I got it completely right and it was just something purely taking advantage of the Japanese language...which English can never match perfectly. And if that weren't bad enough, I had to do even more research on the whole matter of the Duel Masters/Duel Monsters cards until I realized it was a parody of them! This chapter really drove me to the edge...but happily it was still a blast to do. Of course, with Shibito still our main enemy (even with Kuruman...who's just too silly for words), the headaches are just beginning.
