Translator's Note: Alright, a bit of a confession: am I the only one who felt this chapter was dull. Somehow I don't really think it's Torpedo Girl's fault this time: she had some great moments (such as the scene where she annihilated all the kanji..and the little Torpedo Girl heads appear on radar) and her schtick is starting to get better. The problem is just the scenario of the battle: Shibito throws out an attack, Torpedo Girl is immune, Torpedo Girl bombs back. After a while it gets dull...at least now Don Patch is fighting instead. And luckily, Kuruman made the chapter more interesting...but mostly because it was another great weirdo with weak minions and Dengaku Man in his head. Speaking of Shibito, this is something I really wanted to say last time but didn't due to all that was going on: did you notice anything particular about him? While he himself is a high-ranking official, the peculiar thing is this: he's a minion to a greater power in Giga...and he has a Shinken ability! You see, this is part of what we like to call in shonen "an increase in power stakes". Prior to this arc, only crucial allies (Heppokomaru, Softon, Hatenko) or "boss-level villains" (Tennosuke, Rice, Gunkan, OVER, Halekulani)...not to mention more or less "pathetic gag abilities" (like Soumen Shinken way back at the start of C-Block or Tissue Shinken at the end of the same arc) had the Shinken, while everyone else had other weird or amazing abilities. But with the increase in enemy power with Giga, we start seeing minions with Shinken alongside the Shinken of the boss. Shibito is the first of these, but we will see a couple more this arc...and then in the next several arcs, it feels like "nearly" everyone has Shinken...OK, at least one more "major" character doesn't have a Shinken but we won't meet them for a while...though many of you probably know who I'm talking about. The good news: at least we only have one more chapter of Shibito...and Kuruman isn't that much of a challenge so he shouldn't be too long either.
