(Translator's Note: This 4-Koma appeared as part of a special in honor of WSJ's 35th anniversary in 2003, where every manga made a 4-Koma with a pirate theme.)

Translator's Note: Now who says silly gag shonen can't be manly, huh? Well...OK, maybe they aren't manly all the time but when Bo-bobo needs to, he really knows how to take charge! I do find it interesting though: while probably just an all out homage to the super-manly kick-butt shonen of the 1980s (see Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the North Star, Jojo, Bastard, Black Angels, God Sider and such), Sawai used most of his references in this final attack from "Sakigake!! Otokojuku" as I mentioned before. It is hard though to comprehend Otokojuku's importance in the shonen pantheon seeing how most people (myself included) had never even really heard of the series until several characters were included in Jump Ultimate Stars! When the US sort of went through that phase with manga and anime back in the 80s and early 90s, we got quite a few "manly manga and anime" such as the HnK/FoNS movie, but my guess is that since Otokojuku was more or less a comedy with the manliness compared to the pure drama/action of HnK/FoNS, it really wasn't seen as suitable in coming over like the former was...well that and HnK had all the blood, guts and violence and Otokojuku was mostly action but with a lot of silliness in itself. Somehow I wouldn't be surprised if Sawai was influenced by the Wan Ta Ren joke he did several chapters back and lead him to do this "hot/manly" thing with the Otokojuku bits...it is sort of common of him to take something he did from one joke and expand or do something connected to it a few chapters down the line. Well with Cyber City over, we probably can finally relax a bit on getting translations done..sure they still will get done but we really don't have to worry too much now we've essentially matched Viz. But don't worry: the next arc starts in the next chapter and for those who know of it, more insanity (and a couple more memorable Bo-bobo characters) are coming soon!
