(Translator’s Note: Yeah, I know what you’re wondering: what the heck are the anime designs doing there? Heck, what the heck is an ad for the Bo-bobo anime doing in the manga!? Well its simple enough to explain: with the Bo-bobo anime set to premiere on TV-Asahi on November, 2003, this chapter from October of the same year introduced the anime character designs…well sort of considering Tennosuke only “sort of” got his. Of course, Tennosuke really shouldn’t worry at this point considering that he wouldn’t even appear in the anime outside a cameo in ep. 1 anyway until they got to A-Block…they would get it right by then. (as simple as it really is) Since this really doesn’t have to do with the actual chapter, I just wanted to comment on it now)

For starters, the first half of Kikunojou’s name is actually a combination of two flowers: “bara”, which is “rose”, and “yuri”, which is “lily” while the first kanji of the second name is “kiku” or “chrysthantenum”. More importantly, it is here that we get our first recognition that these soldiers work for the “Former Maruhage Empire”, with “Kyuu” the kanji for “former”. I find it a bit easier to call this arc “Former Maruhage” than “3rd Age” like was being used around Tsurulina the 4th.)

Translator's Note: You know for a character that has barely shown up too much even back when he was supposedly the main threat, Tsurulina the 4th has appeared already in two chapters since this arc started. Its not really something to celebrate but in a way since he was supposed to originally be the threat Bo-bobo was fighting against...you wonder why he wasn't used more than this. But of course it also questions how powerful the emperor of the Maruhage Empire really is if he has to rely on the most powerful of their forces in history just to take down Bo-bobo. Meanwhile, probably the only thing I've really particularly noted with the chart displaying the full capacity of the Maruhage Empire...well outside the weird heads of the Former empire that probably aren't anything at all to do with the real block leaders...is that essentially everyone from H-Block down to Y-Block are merely part timers. I know its a gag but somehow I just imagine that is why those other blocks were never really focused on or that important to the story. The only things that happened with them was the whole H-Block fight when Don Patch first showed up, an L-block Lego-man, and that weird bobsled guy when Hatenko showed up. No wonder they never really were considered threats. Oh, and as for the two Hair Hunters coercing Tsurulina in the 3rd Chamber...the ragged clothed guy with the switchblade and the gumdrop creature...just note that what I gave them were essentially nicknames and those two never get real names...and I mean it, even in their last appearance or in the data book, Sawai never gave them names! (which is shocking cause Sawai pretty much names anyone and anything in this series) So I just go with what they have for them and leave it at that. Sort of wish I had something to say with Bo-bobo's side fighting Barayuri Kikunojou...but this time I guess I was more interested in the situation with the 4th and the Former Maruhage in general. But I do have this to note on Kikunojou: considering how much of a show he is and the way he uses flowers, its no wonder his equivalent in the present is that makeup-wearing idiot Hagen. Remember that in particular when we meet more block leaders, particularly the former leaders of A and C-Blocks. (oh, and for those who don't know what Former A-Block's leader is like...lets say Tennosuke may or may not be embarrased that he has to follow in "his" footsteps)
