Lambada's polygons may seem stalled yet not stopped, but Bo-bobo seems confident he can defeat them once and for all! What is his ultimate strategy to defeat a 3-D construct? The answer may be more obvious than you think...

Translator's Note: Now that the chapter is complete, I will try to get to all the "classic video game" references for those of you not into it. Of course, I don't really know them all myself and it would be cool for a real expert to help me with this but I'll go with what I can find.
-"Retro Games" vs. "Modern Games" (or "Pixels vs. Polygons"): Sawai notes that “Retro” is “Old” games, which pretty much encompasses in my head the generations going from the beginning of video games through the advent and usage 3-D polygon textures, particularly with systems such as Playstation, Sega Saturn & Nintendo 64. Prior to then, video games used pixels as their means for the creation of objects within the computerized world, painting pictures with tiny dots that they attempted to create as a representation in the 2-D environment of whoever or whatever is in the game. If you think about it, the basis of Lambada’s whole Shinken is the transformation of 3-D structures into flat polygons used to construct 3-D objects in computer systems and therefore allow for him to make things in the real world as if they were built in a 3-D computer environment.
-Pixels in Japanse: Bo-bobo uses “Dotto-E”, which translates to “dot drawings”, but essentially its “pixels”
-Action Game: This game was a generic "beat-em-up" usually found on the arcades and home consoles, where you have a protagonist punching and kicking their way against martial arts thugs and such. From the pixilation and size of the characters, it seems a bit like an homage to the Technos-style action games, such as the Kunio-kun series (notable in the US as "Renegade" and the cult classic "River City Ransom") as well as their more trademark series in the US: "Double Dragon". The size really didn't equate to anything more stylized or advanced such as "Final Fight". BTW: don't ask about the Tennosuke 1-Up: I didn't connect it with anything.
-Shooting Game: While there were many shooting games out there. this was an homage to the Konami line such as the serious "Gradius" and, more appropriately in this series, the comedical spinoff series "Parodius". "Parodius" is particularly notable for its prominence of octopus as both shooters and villains, such as the massive Bo-bobo at the end...though that could be a "Gradius" or some other reference.
-Tiger Uppercut: the trademark attack of the Muay Thai fighter Sagat, who while from the original "Street Fighter", did not gain this attack until the more famous "Street Fighter II" as his more powerful counter to the infamous "Shoryuken" Ryu scarred him with at the end of the original game.
-Puzzle Game: I really don't know what this is referring to since it mostly seems like a puzzle game where you have to create an image out of abstract images on shapes...but unfortunately I never really came across anything like it.
-Racing Game: Although other racing games are more notable for first-person perspective, this game is more of an homage to the "overhead"-style racing games such as "Super Sprint" or "Super Off-Road". The releasing of hazards obviously seems like a "Super Mario Kart" reference (even if that was in the N64 era with polygons), but could also be a reference to "Spy Hunter", which also used the overhead perspective and allowed for the release of hazards to stop your opponent...well, enemies in that game.
-"Ganbare Goemon": Also known in the US as "Legend of the Mystical Ninja" (with only four games released here), this is the classic Konami series following a fictionalized version of the famed theif...of whom another tribute is another Goemon we just met this arc. (which explains why he wants the game so badly)
-RPG: The title of the game is an obvious reference to "Final Fantasy", no surprise, while the frontal attack is "Dragon Quest". (similarly "Earthbound" also uses "frontal enemies"...but mostly due to it being a DQ parody) Tennosuke has a special reference so I'll get to that below...and don't even ask if there are any video games with "congeniality" attacks...though with Don Patch in a magical girl outfit, you'd think it was the Sailor Moon RPG...but I doubt it.
-Psycho Gun: I had to remove this reference because it's not an RPG reference...but another Jump reference! The Psycho Gun is the main weapon of the space pirate Cobra in the WSJ series "COBRA", which ran from 1978 to 1984.
-Cultivation Game: Obviously this is a reference to the popular "Sim-" series, where you end up maintaining something for a period of time. Though surprisingly, most of those games were for the control and manipulation of whole societies from cities and the world to an ant colony, with actual "personal" care games not coming out until the creation of "The Sims"...in 3D.
-Nu Presentation Game: There wasn't a game like this in the classic era, considering this probably was Tennosuke's own invention. But that doesn't mean that it still "can't" exist: in the same year of this chapter (2004), the Bo-bobo game "Bakutou: Hajike Taisen" had a minigame that was pretty much similar to the proposed game here! While it was the only time you could play a Former Maruhage character in that game (the anime was only building up to stuff like OVER and Halekulani that year but the game did acknowledge through the Former Maruhage arc for manga followers and previewing the anime watchers what to expect), Lambada wasn't just collecting one "Nu" but multiple Nus, giving pillars of them to Tennosuke up to a "Nu Handkerchief" with 9 connected Nu!
-Love History Simulation: Yes, Bo-bobo mixed two genres up: the former is the "dating simulation" style video game akin to "Tokimeki Memorial" or its predecessor games like "Dokyusei", the latter are war simulation games such as "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" where you have to deal with various matters of maintaining troops and, as Softon experienced, floods around the castle support. My guess: due to "Romance" in the title, Sawai decided to fuse them together.
-Last Game: Obviously, the final game is a "Bo-bobo game"...to be specific, "9 Kiwame Senshi Gag Yuugou", which was released in 2004 for the Game Boy Advance (thus why it has pixels, not polygons) as well and probably around the time of this chapter. An RPG game which tells the story from beginning through the Halekulani arc (outside stuff such as Denbo appearing), it is notable for a special structure that allows for Bo-bobo characters to "link up" into combo attacks against weird enemies from bizarre minions to characters from the manga. In rare occasions, a link-up can cause an "actual" fusion, such as Bo-bobo, Don Patch & Tennosuke linking to become, as seen here, Bobopatchnosuke. (happy to see him again) Oh, the game is also known for introducing a certain character...who we'll be meeting soon enough.
Now that the references are out of the way, let me say that this chapter was a blast to translate and research after the crap I went through last time! You see I'm one of those old fogeys who grew up in an era where video games were all pixelated, where the best storytelling seemed to come from cutscenes in Ninja Gaiden and we had to do many games from the beginning every time we turned our systems on making them that much harder to beat! I know I'm not as knowledgable on video games as many people (Sawai for one), but knowing some of this made me see a bit of my childhood while translating it for future generations! Sure kids today will want to see these super-long movies with perspectives and ultra-realistic graphics and updates practically every month with little or no change in their sports games...but me, I'll take the 8-bit and 16-bit era...even if I own a Nintendo DS.
