Commentary:
Taitouki…it is well known in movies and novels that the ninjas of Japan conceal their own bodies with a cloth drawn with stones and trees, assimilating with their surroundings and scenery and hiding their bodies. In Chinese Kenpou, you draw the scenery you should assimilate with onto a thing that’s your own body and changing into a mimicking body. Naturally, those who have mastered this technique are demanded to having the agility of a writing brush in the midst of a battle with superior picture-like talent.

Those initiated into the Ougi ordinarily have hidden ten to twelve dyes and paints in their pockets.

Incidentally, a theory is prominent that the jungle (Edition Note: change it to “genre”) that came to be Body Painting, where your own body is a canvas during the showy period of the Psychedelic movement in the end of the 1960s, has its origin of its name from Boupen Tengu, who was said to be this Ougi’s ultimate master.

TN: Well, you have to leave it to this battle to teach us one thing: even when the series seems to be falling apart, there are still great moments where Miyashita can have a good sense of humor about the whole thing. Somehow the part about Hakuhou making fun of Gishou by claiming he mastered a technique to turn into water vapor through the usage of Ki is probably up there with some of the best "deception moments" in Otokojuku (see Date's "Uro YaKenukma" for the king of them all). Yeah, there are ki masters, but making Gishou lose his cool to a bit of weird camoflauge was a hilarious bit, even if...I had to block out some of the aspects of the kid taking off his underwear. Somehow, though, I found the survival of Chougi was a bit weird since it did seem like Gishou squashed him, but it was ultimately harmless to the chapter and did nothing to make it any particularly worse. Then again...it's hard to imagine the series topping this fight in this arc after all the brilliant insanity we've just finished up this time around.
