Sakigake!! Otoko Juku 292
The Mysterious Unsui!!
-> RTS Page for Sakigake!! Otoko Juku 292
After surviving a serious spider-opponent, things are not going to get easier at all for Otokojuku's forces. But unbeknownst to them, help is on the way...but this mysterious character may have his own grudge on Shinken Temple!
Chp. 292: The Mysterious Unsui!!
(TN: I really don’t know if I can explain it in chapter, but “unsui” here isn’t a name but a title for a monk of Zen Buddhism, either a novice who has undertaken training of one awaiting acceptance into a monastery. They are called “unsui” because they move without attachment like the floating cloud or flowing water. To some, an unsui doesn’t even have to be accepted into a monastery and can just be a term for any wandering Buddhist monk)
87.
“Monk”: Sect-Founder Shinken Temple, which should be called the origin point of Chinese Kenpou. Nothing at all has changed………!!
“Monk”: Everything is like then.
“Monk”: Just here is where time stops…!!
88.
(Title page…this should be foreboding)
89.
Hakuhou: Kakkaka, did you see my true power---!! I’m about like that when I get a bit serious---!!
Hakuhou: Hey~~Pharaoh, can’t you take off this color by putting in more fighting spirit---!!
Pharaoh: Chi, what’s with his self-confidence!!
Monk 1: I…don’t believe this………!! E…even that Gishou-sama, o…one of the three leaders of Shinken Temple, has…!!
Gishou: I…was inexcuseable, Kennou!!
90.
Gishou: Be…beyond that with this body……!!
Gishou: I apologize by dying for my major crime!!
Monks: Gi…Gishou-sama---!!
Pharaoh: Aah, th…that Gishou intends to commit Hara-kiri----!!
Kennou: THAT WILL NOT EQUAL YOUR CASE!!
91.
Gishou: GUWA!!
Gishou: Ke…Kennou, a person like you would…!! Guku!!
Kennou: What can this come to with death!? From here on, you will concentrate on your training much further, Gishou.
Kennou: Take him and hurry him to treatment.
Monks: Yes!!
Momotarou: Wh…what was that now…!? Kennou made Gishou lose conscious by just shining his eyes!!
92.
Kennou: I leave you the rest, Chishou. You should show them your power, called the strongest of the Shinken Temple Three Reeds, to your heart’s content.
Chishou: I certainly will, Kennou. The dishonored of the defeated Jinshou and Gishou will certainly be cleared by Chishou, so you shall look at this!!
Pharaoh: The strongest man of the Shinken Temple Three Reeds…!! I really can’t see his style from his appearance.
Voice: Wa…wait, you---!!
Date: !?
93.
Monk 1: What are you---!!
Monk 2: Do you have thorough knowledge of where here is---!!
Monk: Wa…wait---!! Don’t you understand that we’ve said wait---!!
Monk: I’m indifferent, we’ll throw out our force---!!
“Monk”: Fu, you’re a hundred years early.
94.
Monks: Gaha!!
“Monk”: Fuffufu: even Shinken Temple has degenerated.
95.
Momotarou: Wh…what is he…!! Th…that man is………!? He has tremendous staff-judgment…!! He took four men with a blow……!!
Chishou: …………
“Monk”: Out of my way!!
“Monk”: Fu, I don’t have business with any of you. My business is only with the Kennou there. I’ve come to receive his head!!
Monks: Wh…what, y…you---!! Take him---!! All of us will take him---!!
96.
Monks: Ooh!!
Monk: Th…that place----!!
“Monk”: It seems I must tidy up all of you so I can take Kennou’s head. With my Buddhist powers.
Momotarou: He’s facing all of the training monks of this Shinken Temple by himself…………!!
Pharaoh: Is he sane!? Ho…however few they are, those hundred are worthless no matter how I see it.
Date: Buddhist powers………!?
97.
“Monk”: Rin Pyou Tou Sha Kai Jin Retsu Zai Zen
(TN: The “chant” that the monk is chanting is the Buddhist “nine cuts mudra”, also known as “Kuji-in” or “nine syllables. Though it is part of a Buddhist spell, they are based on the nine original Taoist syllables and usually has many variations in Japanese Buddhism. It is used as well as an exorcism-purification spell.)
Monk 1: Wh…what is th…this………!?
Monk 2: Th…there’s suddenly wind……
Pharaoh: Ooh, w…what is this coming to----!!
Hakuhou: Su…suddenly the sky is darkening and a storm is coming alongside that spell-like thing--!!
“Monk”: RIN!!
(TN: Since this is a spell/sutra ability, I decided to keep it all in Japanese)
98.
Monks: HUH!!
Monk 1: Uoo, th…the ground is splitting---!!
Monk 2: We…we’re falling---!!
“Monk”: RETSU!!
99.
Monk: Hi!!
Monks: Uoo, n…now it’s water---!!
Monk 1: Guaa, sa…save me~~~!!
Monk 2: It’s…a flood---!! We…we’re drowning---!!
Monk 3: Hi…hii, he…he’s not human, he’s a monster---!!
100.
Chishou: KATSU!!
Monks: !!
Monk 1: Th…that was………!!
Monk 2: Th…the water has………!!
Monk 3: E…even the ground hasn’t split…
Monk 4: Ah…the storm has settled………!!
Momotarou: …………!!
101.
Chishou: Have I awakened you, idiots? You were thoroughly placed into an insignificant genjutsu!!
(TN: “Genjutsu” is Japanese for “magic” or “witchcraft”, but it literally translates into “phantom technique” and will be kept in Japanese)
Momotarou: Ge…Genjutsu……!! Th…that now was entirely a genjutsu event!?
Monk: Ri…right, that’s right. He…he spread out that mocking pretense.
Monk 1: A…alright, go---!!
Monk 2: Yeah, if we understand it’s genjutsu, then there is nothing to dread---!!
102.
“Monk”: GOU!!
Monks: Wahhaha, now its fire---!! We…we won’t falter to that---!! That too is an illusion fabricated by him---!!
103.
Monk 1: Th…these flames aren’t going to be hot at all---!!
Monk 2: Ri…right, not hot at all…!!
Monk 1: Uo!!
Monk 2: M…my clothes are on fire----!! I…is this an illusion too---!!
Monks: Guwa!!
Monks: Uoo!!! Th…this can’t be……
104.
Monks: It’s…real fire---!! Gugya---!!
Momotarou: ……!!
“Monk”: Foolish men………!! They can’t distinguish between a dream and reality!!
105.
Kennou: FUFU, I’VE READ YOUR TRUE IDENTITY. THE ONE MAN WHO ONCE HAD WISHED FOR THE NAME OF GENIUS FOR MASTERING ALL SECRETS TO ALL AND EVERY MILITARY ART, GENJUTSU AND HEALING ART AT THIS SHINKEN TEMPLE!!
Kennou: HIS NAME IS!!
Kennou: WAN TAAREN----!!
TN: This...was a confusing chapter with an epic ending. Obviously the fact that Wan Taaren was behind the siege on Shinken Temple and has a major connection to what's going on currently was epic in itself. Taaren did hint a bit at his power before when assisting with the Paaren Seiha...not to mention if Edajima trusts him, then he has to be good. The only real problem I had with this chapter though is...well, the genjutsu. Having experienced several shonen series where genjutsu has become a huge annoyance that just makes things stupider and more outlandish as if no one can surpass it (you can probably figure what those are), I sort of was hoping Otokojuku would avoid it and just stick with the crazy stuff. But on the other hand, at least there is some reason as to why genjutsu is being used all of a sudden. On one hand: it's Wan Taaren, a man extremely adept and well trained that we have come to know and respect. Him being knowledgeable enough to use genjutsu isn't surprising as opposed to, say, Toramaru suddenly busting it out. The only other reason I give exception to the genjutsu matter is that it sort of was displayed cool as the "Power of Buddhism"...and there are a lot of mystical and strange elements within even Buddhism having been reading a bit about it with some other manga I've been translating. Sure it feels strange that a religion more well known for disattaching from one world and becoming one with the universe would have magic and "powers" like this...but every religion has mysticism associated with it so I guess we have to go with it. Besides, it's Wan Taaren.
