Hell Teacher Nube 129
Bukimi-chan
-> RTS Page for Hell Teacher Nube 129
A spiritual problem sometimes can be one caused by letting others know of it's existence. When an enigmatic tale is told to the students of 5-3, it may cause a lot of problems, particularly to those who aren't that smart...such as...yeah, him.
#129: Bukimi-chan
139.
“Narration”: Bukimi-chan was a girl with a bad disposition. She always took pleasure in hiding everyone’s property.
(TN: Just need to make this stated: “bukimi” is Japanese for “Eerie”, “Weird” or “Ghastly”; thus, if it wasn’t her name, she would be called “Miss Ghastly” in English)
“Narration”: And then one day.
“Narration”: Bukimi-chan died in a traffic accident. However, at that moment, Bukimi-chan was going somewhere with a harmonica that was valuable to her.
“Narrator”: And then, several days later, within the dreams of a girl classmate
Girl:” Uu—n…u~~n…
140.
“Narrator”: She came to the girl.
Girl: Bukimi-chan.
141.
Bukimi: My harmonica; you hid it, you know where it is. This is revenge for what I had done…ah—no way no way, you’re an outrageous girl.
Girl: I…I don’t know. It’s a misunderstanding!
Bukimi: Fine? As punishment, you’re fetching my harmonica that I’ve come to not have.
Bukimi: First, from the three gates of red, white and yellow, go through the red gate. Next, there four doors: enter the second from the left. You’ll be among five windows: enter from the fourth window from the right. In the place you emerge to, there will be ascending stairs; when you climb them, you will descend the third stairs from the right since there will be six descending stairs. In the place you descend, there will be seven holes: look closely at the fifth hole from the left.
142.
Bukimi: Within there is the harmonica in a small hole closed with a wire screen.
Girl: Ho…hold on a moment, I can’t memorize that…
SFX: Gui gui
Bukimi: Go, hey.
Girl: Uh, uh…
SFX: Hikku hikku…
SFX: Gusuo…
Girl: Wh…wha: the holes aren’t here.
Bukimi: Ke ke ke, you made a mistake with the descending stairs.
Bukimi: You made a mistake, you made a mistake. (Kekekeke) You can’t leave anymore.
SFX: Gata gata
Girl: N…
143.
Girl: Nooo~~
SFX: Guoooo
Bukimi: Ke ke ke ke: you can’t leave, you can’t leave, it’s already the end~~~
Miki: That girl had become cold when she was found by her parents in the morning, not leaving from her dream ever again. People who hear this story will have Bukimi-chan appear in their dreams within three days. Recently, she actually seemed to appear at a nearby school. Escaping is to go down the correct path within the dream and finding her harmonica.
144.
SFX: Gau!
Nube: Well! Today we’ll have the history test I told you about yesterday.
SFX: Ton ton
Nube: Well, this isn’t as always: everyone is serious.

Nube: What is this that everyone’s scribbled on your tests.
Student: It’s the puzzle of Bukimi-chan.
Nube: What’s that?
Student: We won’t escape from our dream if we don’t remember.
145.
Nube: I don’t know who exactly would tell that stupid story but I believe it’s whom I believe.
(TN: Nube says a weird saying here as he is hitting Miki: “Shinjiru Hou Mo Shinjiru Hou”, which literally is “even if I believe this, I believe this”. Since it’s obvious the one he believe telling the Bukimi-chan tale is Miki, I wrote it as I did)
SFX: Bashi bashi
Miki: I’ve been exposed…
Nube: That is another rumor made by a stupid child! They’re always li—ke that!
Miki: Aren’t they always true in this manga…
Nube: Shut up.

146.
Kyouko: If you want to remember, gulp down that page. Exam-prepping students cut up the dictionary, eat it any remember it.
SFX: Mosha mosha | Poi
Hiroshi: Alright.
Kyouko: Well, Hiroshi, is it in your head?
Hiroshi: ………
Hiroshi: Another helping.
Kyouko: Really that’s enough! Your head really is dumb, Hiroshi!
Hiroshi: I…I understand. But I’m poor at using my head.
SFX: Genpu…Butsu butsu musha musha
Kyouko: That Hiroshi is an idiot through and through, in spite of having unusual physical strength…
SFX: Grumble grumble…
Kyouko: The other day…
Nube: Where is the capital of the United States?
Hiroshi: Hey, is there a town called “Capital” in the United States?
(TN: This is a weird joke that sort of needs a bit of explanation of Hiroshi’s idiocy. Nube asks about where the capital of the US is, using the word “shuto”. However, Hiroshi thinks that he’s looking for a city in the US called “Shuto”, and is asking where there is a town with the kanji for “shuto” in the US. I slightly adjusted it to make it like Hiroshi is looking for a literal city called “Capital” instead of just finding the capital of the US. BTW: Nube and Hiroshi actually use “America” for the nation but I ended up using “United States” to not confuse it with other nations in the Americas)
147.
Kyouko: And there was this…
Kyouko: Did you write your description of thoughts for reading?
Hiroshi: Yeah: exactly read this literary work.
(TN: I really don’t want to have the page ruined here since it’s supposed to be in Japanese, but I will write a translation of what Hiroshi “wrote” since…well, the joke isn’t about what he wrote but how he wrote it:
-Reading About the Crab-Canning Boat
Class 5-3, Tateno Hiroshi
This work is the greatest page of science-fiction among all that I’ve read. A huge crab sent out a beam and an amazing force…
(TN: I have to get this out because it’s a joke that can only be understood with the page and by knowing Japanese. Hiroshi’s tale for his writing assignment was about a “Kamikousen”, which literally is a “crab canning boat”. It is written at the front of the page in a way to make one think it’s about a crab-canning boat. However, in the actual work, he is talking about a “kani” firing a “kousen” or a “crab firing a beam”. In that case, he uses “kousen” which is “beam”. I decided to have a little fun by having Hiroshi write one title and using the “crab firing a beam” bit, making it seem like he had a bit of ADHD when writing his “opus”)
Kyouko: Hiroshi…I really can’t read this…
Kyouko: I’m worried…if that Bukimi-chan came to the place of that idiot Hiroshi, he’ll certainly be killed…Hiroshi…steady yourself…
SFX: Butsu butsu butsu
Narrator:: That night.
Noriko: Uuuh…
148.
SFX: Pon
Noriko: Kyaa: Bukimi-chan!
Bukimi: Get my harmonica.
Noriko: Hiii…
149.
Noriko: It’s…it’s here.
Bukimi: Chi.
SFX: Shuuu…
Noriko: Ho
Noriko: It appeared, it really did last night!
Noriko: I had gone just as the story yesterday and when I found her harmonica it disappeared.
Kaneda: It appeared at my place too.
Akira: Mine too, but I was saved when I remembered the route.
Miki: Well, it’s thanks to me that everyone lived and came back. Please thank me.
Students: You idiot--! Speaking of origins, this is because you told your story. You demon of rumors! (Boo—boo--)
150.
Nube: What’s that: Bukimi-chan has appeared?
Nube: Actually, I heard about the rumors of Bukimi from an education committee member of the prefecture. It seems to have actualize in grade schools in the city.
Kyouko: Eeh, then you knew!?
Nube: It’s because you conversely summon the spirit when you are scared and worry about it…therefore I didn’t want to widen the rumor…
Kyouko: Bu...but, it’s already widened to the entire school.
Nube: Then I can’t predict where it will appear next.
Nube: At any rate, I’ll go to the town with the elementary school where that accident was and investigate. I may discover some source to the wandering of that spirit.
Kyouko: This has become a terrible thing, Hiroshi…
151.
Kyouko: What’s wrong with your eyes---!?
Hiroshi: Oh, I didn’t sleep last night because I couldn’t remember it after all.
Hiroshi: If I don’t sleep, Bukimi-chan won’t come—right? I am smart…
Hiroshi: Guu (snore)
SFX: Gan
SFX: Ki—n ko—n ka—n ko—n

Nube: Mu? I have some bad uneasiness…if I don’t hurry with the investigation
Nube: Here is the intersection where Bukimi-chan died…There isn’t some grudge remaining here. Is there nothing I can do for an exorcism…
Nube: !!
Nube: What!?
Signs: Mukano Town Shopping District
(TN: The town here is literally using the kanji for “Opposing Field Town”, but I called it “Mukano Town” or “Mukano-machi”)
Bukimi: Kekeke, you seem bad in your head. I’m certain you won’t return.
Hiroshi: Ke: Tateno Hiroshi-sama isn’t stupid.
155.
Hiroshi: First is the red gate.
Nube: First is the red gate…it can’t be…understood…

Hiroshi: U~~m, next is the fifth…no, third window from…the right…no the left…no, the fifth… (Which was it?)
Bukimi: Kekeke
Nube: The fifth window!
(TN: I won't be getting into it for the moment considering that we'll have something about this in vol. 17 but...there was a massive mistake if you paid close attention to this line and to the challenge)
SFX: Gata gata
Man: Cu…customer.
Hiroshi: I did it, I’ve come to the staircases! This is easy. Your appearance is of a fart of an angry kappa--!
Nube: Climb the staircase and descend the third staircase from the right. Hmm.
157.
Hiroshi: Al—right, I’ll go at once--! It’s fine already; I’ll get down the fourth staircase----…
Bukimi: Kekeke, you’re wrong. You go down the third staircase.

Bukimi: You made a mistake, kekekeke~~

SFX: Yusa yusa
SFX: Gaba
Hiroshi: Haa haa haa
Kyouko: Hiroshi! Stupid! Stupid stupid!
SFX: Wa—wa—
Kyouko: Well, Nube, Hiroshi really is stupid.
Nube: Seems so. His record is actually bad…
161.
Kyouko: He came to nearly die with his stupidity…this time.
Hiroshi: Ahahahaha
Kyouko: I…about Hiroshi…a bit.
Boy: Tateno-senpai.
Hiroshi: Will this work: what’s called “off-sides” is when the ball is interfered by an ally player who is a player who is in the offside position at the moment of the play makes a play that has been touched by a supporter player; it is also called the off-side position……
SFX: Pera pera pera pera pera
(TN: Hiroshi’s “off-sides” bit here really was tough to translate and would need a bit of sprucing up but basically “off-sides” is when a player is merely waiting on the opponent’s side of the field for a ball to come to them to score, therefore making it too easy for their side to score when entering enemy territory)
Kyouko: Well…if he had worth, it’s his style…

NUBE’S WEIRD FILES
#16: Many Wondrous Riddles
There are several more riddles where you have to use your head a bit like Bukimi-chan this time among the seven mysteries of the campus. I’ll introduce some representative examples.
(1) Agyousan
“Agyousan” is said to be an old-woman youkai who is hidden above the ceiling. When you’re alone in the evening, it suddenly descends from above and clings to your back. And then, it states a riddle of “Agyousan, Sagyougo, What is it?”. If you know the answer, Agyou-san will come to not be, but if you don’t’ know, it will cling to you forever. Well, what is the answer?
(A hint: The 3rd of the A-line and the 5th of the Sa-line of the Gojuuon is what?)
(2) Karyuu Soba
The science lab of a certain school came to catch fire. Just before the fire occurred, one student saw a dragon who breathed fire. That student got wound up in the fire and bore major burns…since then, the fire-dragon would appear for certain at places of people who heard the story. From then on it was best to chant 13-14 times “Karyuu Soba” in a loud voice whenever the dragon appeared so they would escape but…why would they do that?
(A hint: When you continue to say “Karyuu Soba” by fast-talking, it will change into different words.)
(TN: the next part is upside down from “left to right”, if you can write it as such)
(Answers: (1) Lie, (2) Just a Lie) If you understand both answers, then you’ll understand they are made-up stories, merely riddles. If you say that’s foolish, then that’s the end of the matter, but you’ll have quite scared thoughts until you understand the answers. If I know of other interesting riddles of wonder, I’ll tell you.)
(TN: A few things:
1. “Agyousan” is a really strange youkai that we’ll probably get a bit further into at a later time. Just wanted to warn you about that.
2. To understand the meaning behind the answer to the “Agyousan” riddle, you have to know what exactly they’re talking about regarding “rows” and “Gojuuon”. The “Gojuuon” is a chart listing in alphabetical order every single “sound” that exists in Japanese, which is vital for speaking the language and the basis for all the various Hiragana and Katakana that emerge from the sounds. [as well as readings of kanji both in general and those used for the Hiragana and Katakana] “Agyousan” literally translates into “The 3rd of the A-line”, with the “A-line” referring to the row of the five major sounds that are connected to this line, which in this case are the five vowels of Japanese: A – I – U – E – O” The third of this “A-line” is “U”, thus “Agyousan” refers to the sound/reading of “U”. The “Sa” line is likewise “Sa – Shi – Su – Se – So” [don’t misread it: it is supposed to be “Si” but it is pronounced “Shi” due to the consonant and vowel structure]; thus “Sagyougo” is “The 5th of the Sa-line”, which is “So”. And thus, by combining “U” and “So”, you get “Uso” or “Lie”, which is what the story is.
3. “Karyuu Soba” literally translates into “Fire Dragon By My Side”, I kept it in Japanese due to this being a unique Japanese tongue twister…and don’t try to make me figure out how it evolves into “Uso Bakari” or “Just a Lie”)
TN: I think the moral to this chapter should be obvious: Hiroshi is an idiot and shouldn't be left facing smarter, trickier youkai that require his mind on his own. There's a major difference between a youkai who will just come to kill you...and this Bukimi-chan, who seems to be more like Freddy Krueger if you think more and more about it. (yeah, a female Freddy Krueger who confuses you to death...) Strangely this chapter was one I sort of feared when I saw it due to how tricky it seemed and more based around set-up, but it turned out be one of the fun surprises of the volume considering that it was more or less a fun but freaky youkai with a lot of character development regarding how Hiroshi tries to hold it off and eventually face it down to his near death (and how Kyouko...well, tries to keep him in line) Strangely, I did find it a tad convenient that the town that the Bukimi-rumor and her death was within distance of Nube getting there by the time Hiroshi does meet with it, but I sort of forgive it because of how well done the whole sequence was...and how freaky it was that Hiroshi was nearly killed by the time Nube found the harmonica and removed it's grudge and attachment to this world. I also liked some of the weird meta-humor this chapter provided, particularly Miki's line about "in this manga, anything happens...so of course this will". It wouldn't be manga if what was mention doesn't occur. And I do like that a few of the other minor characters like Noro-chan, Kaneda and Akira actually face down Bukimi before Hiroshi, giving a bit more to show that she can be stopped...but it takes an idiot for her to actually get what she wants out of her little fun time. But...of course, it's Hiroshi, so of course he'd fall for it. (I'd make a joke connecting him with other dumb characters...but it seems inappropriate because of my feelings for some of them, let's just say Hiroshi is Hiroshi and leave it at that)

SFX: Ba—n!
Bukimi: Chi, correct.
Nube: …Second door from the left.
“Door 1”: Game Center
“Door 2”: Tea-House 10
156.
Bukimi: You made a mistake, you made a mistake.
Bukimi: You made a mistake, kekekeke~~
SFX: Guooo
Hiroshi: Waaa!!
158.
Hiroshi: Gyaaaa
Hiroshi Guaaaa!!
Kyouko: Hiroshi! Hiroshi—
159.
Nube: There are seven holes, the fifth from the left. It’s this drainage gate!
SFX: Baka
Nube: !!
SFX: Ooooh……
Nube: Namu Daiji Dahi Kyuugu Kyuunan! Purify the grudge confined in this harmonica. Namu Joubutsu!
Bukimi: Kiee!!
SFX: Bashu
160.
Kyouko: Hiroshi! If you’re Hiroshi for a moment—!
