Hell Teacher Nube 138
Yukime: Come Home to Doumori Town
-> RTS Page for Hell Teacher Nube 138
Once, a yukionna who died for love was reborn with a new body and her memories of the past wiped clean. But when her beloved returned, these feelings began to reawaken within her...to the point that she may need to go back to see him again...
#138: Yukime: Come Home to Doumori Town
(TN: It was tough to really determine whether “return” or “come home” works for the “kaeru” used here in the title of the chapter, but I went to “come home” due to the connection she and Nube had prior and the aspect that she’s “returning home” to a place she was welcome and accepted prior…even with all the crap she pulled the last few volumes)
139.
Nube: Remember, Yukime!
Nube: Oni no Te, transmit the memories of Yukime within my heart!!
(TN: Slight adjustment: the original version of the dialogue has Nube saying “Oni no Te, transmit to this girl the memories within my heart!”, but I guess they wanted to slightly adjust it from the original encounter…which was essentially 12 chapters ago)
Yukime: Aaaaah
SFX: Hyuuu…

Yukime: ………I’m going…

Man: Hey, girl, is there a vacancy next to you?
Yukime: Go ahead. Do as you please.
Man: Achoo, haha, it’s a tad cold. Where are you coming from?
Yukime: In truth…the previously Yukime was in love with that man…but the me now isn’t the former Yukime…Yukime died and the Mountain God used her snow crystals and reincarnated her…and breathed a different soul into it…
142.
Man 2: Hey, girl, want a drink? (Get out of the way).
Yukime: Ultimately like he said, the separate snow crystals of my body have remaining the soul of the Yukime of long ago…can he revive the memories of how I met him…and bring back the former Yukime? That’s ridiculous…
Man 3: Hey, how about cards?
Yukime: But…
Yukime: Why those tears……?
Yukime: I can’t go without meeting with him. I’ll meet with him…and get an answer for…these tears…

Their practice is dwindling due to reduced forests and protection of some of their former prey like serow, but they are still known to hunt bear)

NUBE’S WEIRD FILES
#25: Kodama Mice
In the legends handed down by the matagi (hunters) of Kitaakita District, Akita Prefecture, the Kodama Mice are beings that were the spirits of seven former matagi changed into youkai. Their appearance is of small animals that are just like mice, but there is a great explosion when they meet humans. Afterwards, the vicinity of the area is scattered with organs and pieces of meat and it comes to be a terrible scene. And so due to those who see them absolutely being visited by a curse, they are a youkai who are terribly feared among matagi. It is said that it’s best to chant the spell “Namu Abu Raun Kenso Waka” in order to ward off the curse.
(TN: “Kitaakita District” is an area in the north-central area of Akita Prefecture, with its notable city as Kamikoani)
TN: Am I the only one who is sort of getting a tad tired of "old Yukime"/"new Yukime" by now? I know the whole factor they're trying to get across: its' Yukime's body but with new power and obedient memories courtesy of the Mountain God...yet with the snow making Yukime's body still containing memories of her former life. I mean it just seems like they're trying to make "new Yukime" a completely new character...when it's just Yukime whose a bit bitchier and more prone to do things on a whim akin to a regular, old fashion yukionna. I just wish this was more of a "memory loss" storyline than merely "she's not Yukime but a new character who looks, acts and feels like the old Yukime...but she's not Yukime!" I get the whole concept of the Yukime story at this point, but somehow it just never really comes across as something I want to keep reading about over and over again. Still, the chapter just feels like a weird combination of some tender moments (like the scene with Yukime's old items in 5-3 and her recollections of previous incidents with them), some really stupid comedy (like all the random ice moments when its like 'well she's here...but we can't prove it') and...well a few weird but cute moments. (see Kyouko's expression when the pool freezes over) Nube I guess is trying to do the right thing to lure Yukime out and make sure she's alright, but some of the incidents here just feels like it was more random than the sense it really was. And the Kodama Mice...well, it was an interesting safeguard the Mountain God used, but the resolution where Nube literally protects everyone while a good chunk of Doumori Elementary blew up...we know Nube is powerful when protecting his students but sometimes it does feel a tad overblown on how powerful of a defense he has. All in all, the chapter is somewhat of a mess...but still important since Yukime is finally back in Doumori and not on some stupid mountain. Now if only we can get rid of "new Yukime" once and for all...
