NUBE-SENSEI’S ACCUSATION TRIAL
Defendant: Nueno Meisuke
(Evidence #3)
I thought I saw this in Vol. 9 but--. Doesn’t Nube quite (raise the inflection – Author Note) a stinking old man?
In #74, “The Spiritually-Powered Beautiful Itakogal: Izuna”, he called a middle-schooler a kogal, but kogal is a female high-schooler. Aren’t middle-schoolers called “Magogals”? You were brittlely mistaken. Just a bit more—I’m writing due to your investigation about current high school girls. That’s why you’re not popular.
Caption: This is the proof
Izuna: …Well then. Why—did you do that? Teacher?
Nube: Wasn’t it fine! It’s both! Kogal and Magogal--! Isn’t there a resemblance!
Izuna: Frankly admit to that mistake.
Nube: Oh~~well~~my bad! I made a mistake! Sorry! Hmph! Really, recent youths have become skilled in just their mouths… “I’m not popular because I don’t know about high school girls”? That’s too much assistance! I can’t ever think at all that I’m not popular with 16 or 17 year old girls!
Miki: But Yukime-san is 16.
Nube: Giku.
Izuna: Eh--!? What!? This teacher is keeping company with a 16 year old!? A grade-school teacher keeping company with a high school girl… isn’t that quite (ultimately raising the inflection) dangerous!?
Nube: If you say that, then you’ll worry…
Judgement:
Guilty, since he was completely mistaken.
(But actually the authors knew and wrote it that intentionally. So then you somehow don’t understand the reason for “Itakogal”?)
TN: Its really tough for me to scope on this chapter mostly because of one major factor. Besides that factor, it was a really fun chapter, for the most part because Yukime felt like herself again instead of just the moping "I'm a completely different Yukime from before and I will kill you if I have to" like she had been for the last couple volumes. (and before you start: Yukime did handle freezing creeps before the Mountain God so it's not like she picked that up from her recent experiences...go back to vol. 7 if you want proof) This chapter (and some of the ones coming up) just makes me feel like that the whole "evil Yukime" plot felt like something that had to be rushed through since...well, it really didn't work the way it was meant to and somehow they sort of screwed up and had to fix it as fast as possible. (even if it advanced the Mountain God story) I also really liked a lot of the ambiance and feel of the chapter, from the whole beach scenario to the whole aspect of hands popping from the water trying to drown people that think they're trying to help them (and only saving them by giving something that doesn't quite work) For the most part the chapter worked and it wasn't too bad. But the one crux that did feel like both hurt and helped the chapter...were the beach punks. It felt like that they just showed up as a means mostly to force Hiroshi and the others under the duress of the Funayuurei towards the end and, without that, they really wouldn't be needed for the chapter. I didn't mind them for most of what they did, especially their final fates (both times they were frozen by Yukime, and the whole being drowned by trash they throw in the ocean...now that's environmental storytelling that works) But it just felt like they were there for that middle part that just was there to create a crisis for the students where they were drifted out to sea. And while the parts other than their meat to the story were fine, it was that middle section that didn't...either because it felt forced (though it wasn't since they would want revenge after what happened earlier in the day) or...more likely, just the whole idea of the five showing up to watch Nube and Yukime go out to sea to quell the Funayuurei leading to the punks abducting them. Maybe if Nube told them to stay in their lodging instead of making themselves more open targets and they were just abducted from the room, it would have felt more natural than them just leaving themselves to be taken by the jerks. But...other than that minor complaint, it wasn't a bad chapter at all...even if you sort of wish Yukime's ice didn't melt so quickly in the hot sun, power up or no power-up. (or that Yukime should have stayed tan all chapter...)
