Youkai Tsuraraonna: The Assassin Who Came From the Country of Snow!
-> RTS Page for Hell Teacher Nube 152
Once, a yukionna who fell for a human man returned to his side regardless of the dangers and warnings sent out by her powerful father. But sometimes the most dangerous enemy she has...may be one she may just know...
#152: Youkai Tsuraraonna: The Assassin Who Came From the Country of Snow!
51.
SFX: Dododododo…
Biker: Ehehe, what’s wrong with you in the middle of these mountains… (Gigi—)
SFX: Dododo
“Leather Woman”: Hmph! A lacking man. Since you’ll do fine, show me your bike!
SFX: Paaa…
SFX: Piki piki piki
52.
“Leather Woman”: Please wait for me. Yukime.
53.
Narrator: Etsurakuen Amusement Park, a bit away from Doumori.
(TN: “Etsurakuen” is sort of a strange term since it fuses together two words: “Etsuraku”, which is Japanese for “Enjoyment” or “Pleasure” and “Rakuen”, which is “Paradise” or “Pleasure Garden”. A proper translation of the name of the park would be probably “Joy Paradise”, but since it’s the name of the park, I just went with Etsurakuen)
Voice: Hey.
Yukime: Nueno-sensei? Though we’re dating after a long time
Yukime: Why are you giving a scared face like that? Even though Yukime has an extremely happy love-love feeling (heart)
SFX: Gatan!
54.
Nube: Dowaaa!
Yukime: Kyaa~~
Miki: You’re a slob, Nube.
Nube: Th…this isn’t being a slob! I’ve already been on that ride ten times!
Yukime: It feels pleasingly cool and that feels good.
Nube: I don’t agree.
Nube: My organs are overturning and going back. Let’s do something else.
Yukime: Does it? That’s regrettable.
55.
Yukime: Then, let’s do that, that one, that one!
Nube: Da--…
SFX: Wa—kya—hi—
Kyouko: Yukime-san seems to be enjoying herself.
Nube: Yes, this is her first time at an amusement park.
Nube: When I watch her doing like this, she’s an ordinary girl…I don’t think of her really as a youkai…as a yukionna.
Nube: But…as long as she’s violating the law of the Mountain God and living in a human town, we don’t know if she’ll be attacked by a messenger of the Mountain God at any time.
Nube: Happiness: the Mountain God hasn’t said anything since about that, but has it already…given up on Yukime…?
56.
Nube: Well, no matter what youkai attacks, I’ll drive it away with the Oni no Te.
Miki: How is that! Wouldn’t you not be able to use your arms or legs if a beautiful youkai female emerged?
Nube: Would I show hesitation likwe that---!?
SFX: Boyon! (SFX: Squish)
57.
Nube: Ah, no, well. Really, oh goodness me. Those are such large breasts.
SFX: Dere dere~~
Yukime: Ah.
Yukime: Tsurara!!
(TN: A silly but important note: “tsurara” is Japanese for “icicle”)
Tsurara: Heey, Yukime, been a while.
Nube: Eh, you’re acquaintances?
Yukime: …………
Nube: A messenger of the Mountain God!?
Tsurara: Yes…Youkai Tsuraraonna…I’m a childhood friend who was raised like a twin sister of Yukime.
(TN: Before you ask, there is actually a youkai known as a “Tsuraraonna” or “Icicle Woman”. Generally Tsuraraonna are mixed and confused with Yukionna, but are somewhat similar in their origin: an icicle (as opposed to snow) that becomes a human woman. Many of it’s legends are tied to northern areas around the Tohoku region of Japan, which is generally also tied as well to yukionna legends)
Nube: Then…you’re the same age of 16 as Yukime? It really doesn’t seem so… (Is her bust 90…no, 92…)
Yukime: …Where are you looking, Nueno-sensei?
58.
Nube: Bu…but that’s good. If she’s a childhood friend, then she may be able to understand if we talk to her…
Yukime: That’s outrageous!
Yukime: Tsurara is…not a woman who will understand through talk. (Whisper, whisper, whisper | Hiso hiso hiso)
Nube: …Eh?
Yukime: There was this matter… (past Yukime) What is that?
Tsurara: A snow plow.
Tsurara: Hey, Yukime, you said you were made of snow.
Yukime: Yep.
Tsurara: Do you want to eat some kakigoori?
(TN: “Kakigoori”, also known as “chipped ice” in English, is a dessert usually involving shaved ice mixed with syrup akin to a rougher snow cone. It is a popular summer treat in Japan and comes in many flavors including cherry, melon and green tea)
Yukime: Ah, I wa—nt to eat that.
Caption: A drawing of Yukime and Tsurara around the age of 5
Tsurara: Then, you asked for it.
SFX: Don
Yukime: Ah.
SFX: Gari gari gari gari
Yukime: Gyaaa—
59.
Nube: ………………
Yukime: Having my whole body ripped apart, somehow the Mountain God healed me and I survived…
Tsurara: This did happen too—ahaha
Tsurara: There was also this after that… (past Tsurara) Hey, let’s make some Taiyaki Ice Cream.
(TN: Taiyaki Ice Cream, known in Japanese as “Taiyaki Aisu/Ice”, is generally a taiyaki-like treat where ice cream fills up a taiyaki-like wafer)
Yukime: OK.
SFX: Baku!
Yukime: Kya
Yukime: Gyaaa
SFX: Mera mera mera (burn burn burn)
SFX: Hyuu~~
60.
Nube: She’s…a bully~~~
Yukime: At…at any rate! Whatever you say, I’m not returning to the mountain!
Tsurara: ……Hmph…
Tsurara: You can’t say that you won’t be obedient, Yukime!
Yukime: !
Tsurara: No matter how much you imitate humans, you are a youkai…you are basically different from humans! There isn’t a reason that you can marry a human man!
Tsurara: Generally…it’s hilarious that Yukime would run to a man. The beautiful me gets disregarded…and that ugly Yukime has… (Ahaha…)
Miki: Hey…she shouldn’t add in her biases.
Kyouko: Yeah, yeah.
Yukime: Tsurara…
Tsurara: The conversation is over.
61.
Tsurara: The Mountain God never forgives traitors. I’ll take you home to the mountain even if by force!
SFX: Ka
Yukime: !!
SFX: Chira
SFX: Paaa…
Yukime: Ru…run, teacher! Tsurara’s youryoku is…she can create copies as ice carvings of everything that she sees with her eyes!
Nube: What!?
62.
SFX: Dogyu—n dogyu—n dogyu—n dogyun dogyun dogi—n
Nube: Uwa!
Yukime: Kya
Tsurara: Chi…
SFX: Kachi kachi kachi
Nube: It…it’s like it’s real. That is…tough!!
Yukime: Run away, teacher!!
Tsurara: You can’t run. In spite of this being Yukime.
Sign: Animal Park
63.
Yukime: Nueno-sensei! Tsurara’s aim is only me! Leave this here to me…please run away, teacher!
Nube: Dummy, what are you saying?
Nube: She’s a youkai of ice. You can’t use your youryoku.
Yukime: But
SFX: Dododo | Wa-- | Kya—
SFX: Pao~~~
Nube: What?
64.
Nube: Kyaaaa!
SFX: Dodododo
Nube: Yukime!!
Nube: Ha!!
SFX: Ka ka
Nube: Yukime—
Yukime: Uuuh…
Tsurara: Please be relieved. Yukime won’t die with that degree.
Nube: Tsurara! Don’t lay a hand on Yukime! Become my opponent!
Tsurara: …Hmph.
65.
Tsurara: That was the plan…from the start, loverboy!
Nube: What!
Tsurara: I’m not for Yukime; I was for killing you!
SFX: Biki biki…
SFX: Gakiiin!
Nube: !
66.
Tsurara: If she hadn’t encountered you, Yukime wouldn’t have lost her youkai heart! If you weren’t here, Yukime should be able to live in peace on the mountain as a youkai…that’s how it is!
SFX: Byu
Nube: Uh!!
Tsurara: You’ve brought misfortune to Yukime; If it were you! If you were killed…!
Nube: Tsurara…!?
Voice: Please stop, Tsurara!
67.
Tsurara: !!
Yukime: A person who lays a hand on Nueno-sensei…cannot be forgiven, even if a childhood friend!!
Yukime: Snow! Crystals of snow that have branched from me! Gather the light of the sun and melt Tsurara!
SFX: Ka
Tsurara: !! The ice! It’s like a giant magnifying glass…
68.
Tsurara: Gyaaaa
Yukime: Nueno-sensei!
Nube: Yukime!
Tsurara: Fu…the crybaby Yukime has won against me…does she love that human that much…
SFX: Shu—shu—
Yukime: Tsurara!
Nube: Give up! She’s running away!
SFX: Yoro…
69.
Nube: Tsurara was seriously worried about Yukime…I’m certain she thought of Yukime like a true little sister…
Nube: But…The Mountain God will continue to send assassins from here on…as long as she’s together with me, Yukime may not have happiness…
Tsurara: (flashback) You’ve brought misfortune to Yukime
Nube: No…
Nube: She will have happiness…I’m certain…
TN: I'm a tad confused regarding the whole climax of the battle and what exactly happened then. I know Yukime used the ferris wheel to create a magnifying glass to melt Tsurara...but where did it come from? Did she freeze the ferris wheel at the park and use that as her weapon...or did she do something similar to Tsurara and made one herself out of her snow? That part always seemed to confuse me no matter how often I look at it and try to figure out why it was happening. It was definately a great climax, but I always never got that part and how the ferris wheel got there which Yukime used as the weapon.
Regardless of that one minute nitpick, I really loved this chapter mostly due to Tsurara, who really feels like a character who should have had more to her outside this one chapter, the only one she appears in. She is a very interesting concept of a "sister" for Yukime: a Tsuraraonna raised like her twin, a bully who tormented her yet cared about her to the point that she would want to kill Nube thinking he was the cause of the problem. (well...he is considering the encounter lead to her changing into the kind, caring yukionna she is now) In some ways, she feels more like a reflection of how Yukime was and how she really should not be tied to Nube any further than...well, that so-called Yukime clone nonsense that happened a few volumes ago where the Mountain God brainwashed her to its will after her "death". In so many ways, she is the exact opposite of Yukime not just in attitude but in many aspects of her existence: on her own instead of tied down, ice instead of snow, black hair instead of white...heck, even "super busty" compared to "busty but not massive...more just a handfull". (you do realize Yukime has it too even if it wasn't to Tsurara's...or Ritsuko's...extent) I sort of wished Tsurara got more development beyond this chapter allowing for her to maybe understand a lot more about human/youkai relations, not just with Yukime but the others who have made it work for them (introduce her to Nureonago, that should be a lot of laughs), but I guess it would sort of be a similar development to Yukime or some of the others...so at least we had her and her busty ice-powers for this one brief but fun appearance.
