Jungle no Ouja Taa-chan 20
A New Weapon
-> RTS Page for Jungle no Ouja Taa-chan 20
With increasing dangers in the jungle, Ta-chan is always best to prepare himself for these obstacles with a diverse set of tools...regardless of their danger to himself!
No. 20: A New Weapon
28.
Jane: What are you making?
Ta-chan: A special-make boomerang that I’ve made by whittling off the iron plate of a Jeep that was abandoned by the poachers.
Ta-chan: It’s whole surface is pointed, becoming a blade.
Ta-chan: It’s length is 1.5m; weight 50kg. Manipulating this at will is, perhaps, just for me.
(TN: Not sure if “just for me” works, but Ta-chan states “watashi gurai” which is “approximately me”)
SFX: Bun
29.
SFX: Supa supa supa
Jane: Wa—isn’t that amazing?
Ta-chan: It splits everything in two.
Ta-chan: Its fault is that if you don’t avoid it when it returns, you’ll be split in two.
SFX: Supa
Ta-chan: Even when you throw it, you will cut your hand if you’re not paying attention.
SFX: Ji~~~~
Ta-chan: It’ll be fine: I haven’t been cut yet. I’m not stupid to that extent.
Jane: The line of his mind is short after all.
30.
Narrator: For the moment, it is Ta-chan’s new weapon for fighting the poachers!!
Ta-chan: So then, I’ll be going.
Jane: Just a moment: since that is a large iron boomerang just like that, it isn’t just a weapon; you can use it also in bullet protection.
Caption: Is worried.
Jane: If they shoot, hide your body behind the boomerang.
Ta-chan: There.
Ta-chan: Gunfire.
SFX: Pachu—n pachu—n
Ta-chan: LET’S GO, ETEKICHI
31.
Caption: A male lion who is playing dead.
(TN: “Playing dead” was actually in Japanese “Shinda furi” or “giving the appearance of death”, but I think “play dead” works well here)
Hunter: Wa
SFX: Supa
Ta-chan: A person who disturbs the peace of the jungle won’t be forgiven by Ta-chan!!
Ta-chan: Otto
32.
Hunter: Hie~~save me!!
SFX: Bun
SFX: Zuba
Driving Hunter: The lions are chasing us!! Hurry get inside the car and we’ll attack.
Driving Hunter: Fu—that was dangerous
Lions: Garururururu…
Caption: I’d say you’re fully in danger now.
33.
Narrator: As such, Ta-chan continued his excellent attack.
SFX: Kan kan kan
Hunters: Damn it!
SFX: Bun
Ta-chan: Stop with that sort of joke.
Caption: Turtle
34.
Narrator: And then, one day…
Hunters: Wa, run!
Caption: Hippos
Ta-chan: A person who disturbs the peace of the jungle won’t be forgiven by Ta…
Caption: Dummy
Narrator: But a defective product is a defective product…

3. Happiness
I’m happy that my own manga appears and is out there outside Jump.
Due to prior being in the magazine “Takarajima”, I was told (by my wife) and was going to buy it at a convenience store in the middle of the night, but I haven’t.
I go to buy it at a bookstore by Ashi-kun during a day of the week.
(TN: Didn’t really understand what he was saying there so I TL it as best as I good)
Thanks for having me in there.
I’ve loved being there, thank you.
Magazine: Takarajima 5 – We have a cut of Oyahakodai’s Ta-chan, it’s quite amusing.
(TN: I had a hard time with the magazine cover honestly)
Caption: Like this
Editor: They have Ken and Chako even in the mid-day sports
(TN: I'd like to thank Ninkutan for helping remind me of this series and pointing it out to me: "Ken and Chako" are referring to "Fundoshi Keiji Ken-chan to Chako-chan", or "Fundoshi Detectives Ken-chan and Chako-chan", a comedy series that ran in seinen magazine Super Jump between 1986 [after the end of previous WSJ series "Shape Up Ran"] through 1990 [a moment where I really have to speak of when we reach it because it's an important moment for the run of Ta-chan])
Tokuhiro: MY MANGA HASN’T ONCE COME TO HAVE AN ANIME, A FAMICOM GAME OR CHARACTER GOODS UP TO NOW, DAMN YOU!!
(TN: Remember: this is circa the time of this publication…Ta-chan did get an anime ultimately but we’re not up to that point yet)
TN: First, an apology: there were just several parts I really couldn't quite read in this chapter and I TLed them as best as I could. I know it isn't perfect but bare with it.
Second: I sort of wonder if Ta-chan got the idea for using a boomerang in combat after what happened with Jane's idea in vol. 1. Sure we didn't expect it to be a sheet-metal boomerang, but at least it's progress...stupid but progress. It was funny but you do have to admit only a knucklehead would try to use a weapon that would hurt your hands more if you use it than actually take down hunters too effectively...well it works but I think the personal dangers are greater...like the random rock on a savannah. (near some well-placed hippos)

These Ken and chako mentioned in page 35 by Tokuhiro, are the protagonists of another manga from him called "Fundoushi Keiji Ken-chan Chako-chan" (or something like this, i'm not sure of the exact title), he was doing it at the same time as Ta-chan in super Jump during the end of the 80s.
I hope this information is helpful ^^.
And, Thank you very much for another translation
