The trials of a female are hard, particularly in trying to keep themselves attractive to males even if they say otherwise. But in Miki's case, her own infamy has forced her to turn to much more drastic measures...and a certain naughty witch!

The Female You Don’t Want As Your Lover
(from right)
-Kusai Unko
-Dokumamushi Shuuko
-Yamada Pekeko
-Hosokawa Miki
(TN: The “three girls” competing for the worst sweetheart [with Miki] are all strange puns in one way or another:
-Though it is spelled in a way to make it sound like a name, the first girl is literally “Kusai Unko” or “Smelly Poop”
-The second name has kanji that all seem to be rather derogatory towards the female: “doku” uses the kanji for “poison”, “mamushi” is “viper” and the “Shuu” is the kanji that is usually used for “minikui” or “ugly”. Thus this name seems to emphasize this girl as “a poison viper that’s ugly”
-In the last name, “Yamada” is a rather generic name sort of like “Smith” or “Jones” in Japanese, but the “Peke” of “Pekeko” is “No Good”)

Miki: ………
Miki: …Right.
Hiroshi: Did we tell her a bit too much?
Kaneda: It’s fine. She was a bit disgusted with it.
(TN: I really had a hard time figuring out the means by which Kaneda was talking of Miki here: he uses the term “korita” which is the verbal “koriru”, which could either be “to learn from experience” to “to be disgusted”. Honestly I think the former worked but it was tough to really work out in how she would learn a bit of experience in English, so I went with the latter considering Miki was a tad disgusted with what they chose to pull with this)

Mami: Mandragora (Alias: Mandrake) is a plant that is the highest-grade ingredient for making magical drugs. With that, it can easily be made into a drug that will make men into slaves.
Mami: They are well sold at magic shops and in mail order but they aren’t too useful being they’re daikon that is made into human-shape. (I too use black magic just in form but)
Mami: Real ones grow beneath execution stands and suck the blood of those condemned to death.
(TN: “Execution stand” is a translation of the term “Shikeidai”, with “shikei” being “death penalty” or “capital punishment”, with “dai” being a “stand/support”, thus a “stand for the death penalty” was best translated into “execution stand”)
Mami: When they’re pulled out, they give off a terrible shriek as “gya~~~”. Those who hear that voice will die in that place.
“Mandragora”: Gyaaaa~~

Since no other word really works at all for the context, I sort of had Hiroshi start saying “manko” (or maybe the slang “man in the boat”, which works for “vagina”) before he’s cut off)

Principal: N? What is that smelly stench?
Principal: They failed in their cooking practice. Nothing—they can do on it. N? Is that carrot tasty?
Miki: Ah~~
Miki: …Wa, my ambition~~what’s with this hardship?
Nube: That’s good, that’s good.
TN: First of all, a massive apology for those who got confused by the last several Nube scripts I had put up slightly out of order and out of whack. I really should have just done it in order but I just needed to get a certain chapter out of the way so I wouldn't go crazy...like last time I had a chapter of that sort of fame on deck. From here on out, I will just stick with Nube in order like it's supposed to be.
With that said...I almost feared this chapter at first with how it seemed to start in a way that didn't feel like it was going to go very well. For the most part, whenever Miki pulls something bizarre , it either could turn into a good chapter or a rather cliched one at this point. But somehow once it shook off that intro sequence (with a bunch of girls we'll never meet and thus never know why they're better mates), it actually turned out to be a fun chapter that was rather breezy, despite a slightly cartoonish ending. (it was funny seeing the Principal dump the mandragora formula in the rabbit pen...but the super-sexy bunny just felt strange being that it was a rabbit and not a human mutated into a rabbit...but I digress) In a way, the combination of Miki and Mami-sensei turned out to be a real fun one, with both matching each other's obsessive nature and spiritual knowledge and abilities to accomplish what they wanted regardless of the consequences. Sometimes I sort of wish Mami-sensei got a bit more in the series like this where she actually was used in a manner as such (and somehow I sort of wish she used the Mandragora idea for her own schemes of winning Nube over...she did seem mostly there along for the ride because Miki wanted her help instead of doing it for any real purpose of her own), but I did like her in this chapter and she seemed in some ways to being a better mentor type than most of those Miki worked with (like...Nube or Izuna) Likewise, I did like how the climax involved Miki somehow experimenting thinking she could handle the Mandragora on her own but ultimately relying (and reminding herself) on her Rokurokubi ability in order to survive the Mandragora scream. So ultimately, I guess that my worst fears really didn't come true and a good time was had by all...well more by Nube than by Miki since the whole formula went to waste...but hey, Mandragora aren't normal so of course no one knew what to do with it when they don't have the experience.
