Hell Teacher Nube 185
Rescue!
-> RTS Page for Hell Teacher Nube 185
Having amazing spiritual powers may be useful with youkai or assisting the dead, but what about in a real-life situation? When his students are caught in the crossfire of a crisis, all of Nube's skills may be put to their most peculiar test yet!

Hiroshi: Well, it was good that I had the banks savings of my New Years present left over.
Kyouko: Take it out and buy “Do Your Best Morikawa-kun #2”.
(TN: “Do Your Best Morikawa-kun #2”, known in the US as “Pet in TV”, was a “pet simulation” game released for the Playstation, originally in Japan in May, 1997 [this chapter was released in June, BTW, thus still within the period of notability for the game] and later in the US. The game involves raising a “PiT” (the “Pet in TV” in the title) to gain knowledge, learn about the world and ultimately gain the intelligence to solve puzzles on its own. Although notable when released in Japan in 1997, it’s terrible reviews ultimately hindered it’s notability beyond this period)
Miki: Ul—timately it’s great that a bank is cool!
Katsuya: I brought a game and candy since we have to waste time while we’re waiting.

Glasses Robber: Don’t be confused; we’re now in the middle of negotiating an escape car with the police. (Chi…) What’s left is the connection where if we can escape even with the money, we can run overseas.
180.
Glasses Robber: Until we’re on our way, these brats could run away as hostages. We’ll have to do something. When we’re done using these brats, we’ll kill them.
Hiroshi: Uh…um, how about if I can pee?
Kyouko: Hi…Hiroshi, that’s nonsense~~
Glasses Robber: Huuh~~? What, do you understand your situation?
Glasses Robber: Do it there.
SFX: Baki

SFX: Don’t do that terrible thing!
Hiroshi: Nu…

Glasses Robber: Wh…what are you? Where did you come in?
Kyouko: Nube…
Miki: Hold on! That’s an erethral body; he’s using erethral body separation……
Nube: All of you, release your hostages and surrender. If you don’t, you’ll meet with a painful experience.
Headband Robber: Shut it—what do you intend to be, bushy-brows---!
(TN: The expression used by the gun-toting robber for Nube is “Gejimayu”, which is a short version of “gejigejimayu” or “bushy eyebrows”. Incidentally, the actual translation of “gejigeji” is “centipede” or “millipede”, thus it should actually be “centipede-brows”…but “bushy brows” is such a notable expression by now that it pretty much was required to be translated as such)
SFX: Dogagaga…

Hat Robber: Wh…what did yu do? You.

Nube: Your Shugorei was switched with an evil spirit. It’s best you don’t move awkwardly, since now your terrible luck will be bad.

Nube: Resort to your conscious that’s the extent of a drop in a bucket. You won’t be able to recover with the bad things you’ve done.
Bandana Robber: Hii!?
“Voice”: You’ve done bad things, you’ve done bad things. God has seen it.
SFX: Giro
Nube: That is Dodomeki, an evil spirit that is born of the maltreatment of a conscious. A qualmish heart that is said to have seen evil deeds by someone becomes eyes and comes into view.
Bandana Robber: Gyaaaa
Nube: If you want to return to human, seriously reform.
Bandana Robber: Hiii~~

Headband Robber: Those three have been defeated, leader.
SFX: Gacha
Glasses Robber: What!?
Headband Robber: He…he isn’t an ordinary person. I’m certain he’s a craftsman of the Green Berets or the CIA…
(TN: A short little bit for those who don’t know:
1. The “Green Berets” here most likely refer to the Special Forces of the US Army, akin to a tradition alongside British commandos. The forces were seen as the “best of the best” by the period of the beginning of the US involvement in the Vietnam War.
2. The “CIA” or “Central Intelligence Agency”, is the head of US national intelligence regarding foreign matters, centered in Langley VA several miles south of Washington.)
SFX: Batan!
Glasses Robber: Dummy, don’t be chattering…
SFX: Zuzu…
SFX: Gashi
Headband Robber: Uaa~~~wh…what is this hand from the wall…
188.
Nube: This is called Erethral Body Separation, a technique where your erethral body is pulled out by force with the Oni no Te. It’s terribly painful.
SFX: Beri beri beri
Headband Robber: Gyaaaa
Glasses Robber: …Huh…
SFX: Goro goro goro…
Headband Robber: Gyaaa…
Hiroshi: Hmph! What are you then? If it’s for protecting his own students, Nube utilizes infinite power. You can do this!
Kyouko: Hi…Hiroshi!
Glasses Robber: Hoo…right? He’s your teacher…
Kyouko: Dummy…
Glasses Robber: Hey! Get out, Marick guy. I’ll blow off the head of your valuable student!
(TN: The “Marick guy” nickname he gives Nube refers to “Mr. Marick”, a popular and notable magician born Matsuo Akira and is notable for his TV specials and appearances. The nickname he has, “Marick”, is a fusion of the words “Magic” and “Trick”, thus the name)
189.
Nube: Chi.
Glasses Robber: You had that mocking behavior.
SFX: Cha
SFX: Don
Nube: !
Kyouko: Kyaaa~~Nube!!
Nube: Ua…ah…
SFX: Gotsu…gotsu…
Glasses Robber: You had a great sense of justice, eh? Are you intending to be Schwarzenegger or Bruce Willis?
(TN: Obviously the robber refers to great American action heroes, with Schwarzenegger in many notable action films of the 80s and 90s and Willis known for his “Die Hard” films, which for some reason this chapter actually somewhat reminds me of with how Nube took out the other hoodlums)
SFX: Gatsu
Glasses Robber: That’s just in the movies!

Miki: He’ll be defeated like this.
SFX: Doka baka
Kyouko: We’ll save him!

Glasses Robber: I told you don’t move!
Nube: That’s…the route of Otonai-san.
(TN: Then how would Miki and Katsuya know of it? Hiroshi and Kyouko sure [they were there that night with Akira’s home under siege] but those two?)
Nube: Namu Daiji Daihi Kyuugu Kyuunan: Open the spirit route!!

SFX: Zoro zoro zoro
Nube: That made you bad, laying a hand on my students. The teamwork of the Nube class is pre-eminent.
Nube: Go to hell!!
193.
SFX: Wa—wa—
Reporter: What exactly did you do to those criminals!? We want to know your feelings now! Who exactly are you…?
Nube: Sorry. Can you let us through?
Miki: Well—how about we go to eat ramen!
Nube: Rather a hospital over ramen! I got beaten up!
Hiroshi: Wahaha, these things we can heal by applying spit to them…(Owow)
Kyouko: You overdid things, enough!

Anime Hell Teacher Nube
Complete Televising List!!
(TN: This section for the most part lists off all of the matters regarding the Nube anime, which, by the release time of this volume of material (which was September, 1997), had completed its TV run. For the most part I’m just going to be translating the titles of all the anime episodes, even if I probably will screw them up seeing that I’m not directly involved with the actual anime scanslation. The other stuff talks about the production people and the voice actors for all the characters, and so on.)
# - Title – Airing Date – Original Work Edition Chapter No.
1. The terrible new school term! The mysterious Oni no Te – 4/13/96 – Special One-Shot
(TN: As I may have mentioned before, the second one-shot, where Nube is the new teacher and Hiroshi is already a Doumori student, was used for the anime pilot instead of the original chp. 1)
2. Hanako-san of the bathroom has appeaaared~~! – 4/20/96 – #9
3. I can’t stop gossiping! The blabbermouth youkai: the terrible Gomaishita – 4/27/96 - #3
(TN: Incidentally, “Gomaishita” refers to the youkai from the first Miki chapter, but it really never had a name when it was done way back. The name translates into “Five Tongues”)
4. Unavailable!? The parallel bars where a kappa appeared – 5/4/96 - #6
5. A great mystery of the school: the demonic 13 stairs – 5/11/96 - #19
(TN: Yeah, I mentioned it before: it was easier to use this to introduce Katsuya…since the one before this was less about the typical Katsuya and more about…well, how different he is around his sister)
6. Nube dies!? The strongest enemy: youko Tamamo – 5/18/96 - #11, 12
7. Oni no Te vs. Fire-Ring Tail Jutsu – 5/25/96 - #12, 13
(TN: Having not seen the anime, I really don’t have any idea why they would split off any of the first Tamamo two-parter to the next chapter…unless it was just to give more meat to it)
8. UFO invasion! Aliens appear in Doumori-town! – 6/1/96 - #27
(TN: Thinking about it now, having this introduce Shuichi at least cuts to the chase…as opposed to the Gakidama incident)
9. Class 5-3’s big panic! The huge-breasted Rokurokubi – 6/8/96 - #32
10. Great evil spirit struggle! The endeavoring child’s caution – 6/15/96 - #2
11. Scoop! Nube is a yukionna’s fiancé!? – 6/22/96 - #30
12. The terrible hike! The mystery of Kimon Pass – 6/29/96 - #10
13. The classroom is changed into dangerous weapons!? The curse of Hatamonba, the bewitched blade – 7/13/96 - #7, 8
14. Two Kyouko!? The terror of the Doppelganger – 7/20/96 - #23
(TN: The Doppelganger chapter, so far from Valentine’s Day? But what about the Van Allen joke?)
15. Yukime returns! The great mid-summer freezing operation! – 8/3/96 - #49
(TN: At least compared to last chapter, it occurs when it should…and the night-watch room will require a lot of defrosting from yukionna love)
16. Impossible to use the Oni no Te!! The mysterious person of the old school – 8/10/96 - #54
17. Poolside romance…the ghost of the 4th lane – 8/17/96 - #42
(TN: Personally I sort of wish this was after the Hiyoku Crows incident due to one joke…but it could occur anytime)
18. The revived youko: Tamamo! The giant apparition fish that lurks on campus!! – 8/31/96 - #14, 15
(TN: This tells me that Remgyo had to probably been revived another way…since the whole “Shugorei Switch” incident with Kyouko never happens)
19. The consecutive tearing demon! The love pursuit of the strongest pair!! – 9/7/96 - #56
(TN: So…you think the whole pursuit of the monster attacker guy is more important than…well, Yukime’s obsessive pursuit of Nube for the first 2/3rds of the chapter?)
20. Time-slip to the past! Look at Nube’s secret!! – 9/14/96 - #78
21. Clash with a god! The undertaker of the judgement is me!! – 10/12/96 - #84
(TN: And then it skips to Katsuya’s “Kirin” incident…I probably would have used one of the freakier tales but….oh well)
22. Someone is behind you! The terrible spirit photograph!! – 10/19/96 - #61
23. The mystery of 0:00:00!! The great mystery of the opposite mirrors – 10/26/96 - #41
24. The devilish D-cup!? The legend of the love crows – 11/9/96 - #40
(TN: That title fits Miki to a tee)
25. Good fortune panic! Zashiki Warashi who makes tears disappear – 11/16/96 - #20
26. Birth of the horrible 2nd generation! Mama is a youkai, papa is a teacher! – 11/30/96 - #65
(TN: Yeah, Yukibe…that’s about as horrible as they come)
27. The Kogal’s dangerous part-time job: beautiful girl Izuna who manipulates spirit beasts – 12/7/96 - #74
28. An extremely strange X-mas…the Kesaran Pasaran of happiness – 12/14/96 - #114
29. Full appearance of the Youkai all-stars! The cursed school festival – 1/11/97 - #48
(TN: This is a cool chapter but…I worry somewhat considering that a ton of evil youkai were in the first year when Nube did the haunted house…and by this point we’ve had tales from the first three years and more a variety than a lot of real monsters that would make this place freaky)
30. The after-school terror! The running Ninomiya Kinjirou statue – 1/18/97 – #46
31. The terror of eyeballs that can’t be spoken by anyone!! The genius violinist’s serious crime – 1/25/97 - #76
32. And then there were none! The red mystery-girl of the library – 2/1/97 – Anime Original
(TN: Wait…red girl…anime original…don’t tell me that this replaced “The Red Vest”, did it?)
33. Shoukera is peeking from the window! Ritsuko-sensei’s ultimate crisis – 2/8/97 – 68
34. The prohibited past now revealed! The secret of the birth of the Oni no Te – 2/15/97 - #102, 103
35. Daidara Bocchi is at my disposition! Miki-chan’s dream town
(TN: I really couldn’t figure out the kanji tied to Daidara Bocchi in the title, but the closest I could make out with my terrible scans were “disposition”. There is another kanji close to it that is “captive”, but I rather translate it properly than incorrectly)
36. The midnight (secret) lesson! The music room’s dangerous temptation!! – 3/1/97 – Anime Original
(TN: Again, without knowing anything, I sort of infer one of two ideas: either it’s a second “Ai” episode [considering she did show up already]…or an adapted version of the second Ootsuki-sensei chapter…as I said, I know next to nothing on the anime)
37. Forgotten thing from 20 years ago!? The predicting notebook dyed in blood!! – 3/8/97 - #39
38. Eh! My rival’s first date? Yukime’s hot, long day!! – 3/15/97 - #79
39. Revenge from the depths of death! Has it appeared? The combined secret of oni and youko! – 3/22/97 - #132
(TN: Wait…so no build-up or Tamamo the doctor…just him and Nube working together like that? Heh…oh well)
40. Burn the sailor fuku! It can’t be hidden, Izuna’s heart! – 4/12/97 - #118
41. I want friends…the mysterious classmate’s horrible true identity! – 4/26/97 - #16
42. Mother is a four-year old!? The memories of a previous existence that calls a storm – 5/3/97 – #45
43. Yukime dies!! Love disappears in the crystals of snow… - 5/10/97 - #110
44. Children can’t see it, the prohibited ghost story: The Hundredth Tale – 5/17/97- #100
45. The prohibited past now revealed! The secret of the birth of the Oni no Te (Reaired) – 2/15/97 - #102, 103
46. Dream? Illusion? The revived Yukime: Lover, why are you aiming for my life!! – 5/31/97 - #126, Others
(TN: Oh great, “that” arc…and with “others” attached to it. Somehow this probably turned out…um…interesting)
47. The aimed heroines: the heart-racing bath panic! – 6/7/97 - #55
(TN: And so close to the anime’s end…we get a bath episode)
48. The strongest! The greatest! The final enemy, it’s name is…Binbougami!! – 6/14/97 - #97
(TN: Aside from some of the mess that the chapter had, somehow I could see this as the final “enemy” considering the chapter…and the depths of Nube’s insanity this time)
49. Dreams are forever!! Our beloved Nube! – 6/21/97 - #137
(TN: As for the final episode…well, this is an appropriate choice. Yeah it’s Kyouko’s dream but somehow this weird chapter gets at what makes this series…sure I would have liked to maybe have thrown in the “Nube/Kyouko connection” chapter before this sometime, but it really isn’t that needed unless you want to know further why Kyouko is that much more “interested” in Nube)
50. Perfect preservation edition! Hell Teacher Nube super-encyclopedia – 8/7/97
Public Works of the Toei Anime Fair
Hell Teacher Nube – Summer, 1996
At 12 AM, Nube Dies! – Spring, 1997
The Terrible Summer Vacation!! The Legend of the Suspicious Sea – Summer, 1997
Nube: Incidentally, these are film editions
Kyouko: Weren’t there tales that you missed…check and see!
Hiroshi: It will be released for video rental in October! These include the films!
(TN: The entire series is on DVD BTW…but in Japan)
196.-197.
(TN: These pages have the compilation of lyrics for “Nube music”, including the opening theme “Bari Bari Saikyou No. 1”, the first ending “Mienai Chikara ~Invisible One~” (which actually hit #1 on the Japanese singles chart…then again this was during the height of the artist who did the song: popular rock duo B’z), second ending “Spirit” and 3rd movie theme “Mune ni Itaite Wasurenai”. I probably would screw this up due to the last time I translated anime song lyrics, so I won’t even do it this time…but I am leaving a place in case I do. There is one interesting bit though mentioned in the dialogue here: the basis of the 3rd film is the Itomi chapter from vol. 14…only it takes place out by the seaside…likewise I've also heard the 2nd movie is a bigger, "adapted version" of the 'A' story from vol. 4...)
198.
Caption: Notice of the next volume…
Principal: Best regards for Vol. 22 as well. For doing this, pay back the 100 yen I loaned you the other day.
Nube: Principal…
(TN: The principal never does much…but when he does, he shows authority. You’ve got to admire him for that…maybe not for always forcing Nube to pay crap back but he’s just terrible with money regardless)
TN: I think this song is probably the best for this chapter:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKXDYMrIqTI (yeah, something from "Die Hard" would fit much better probably with the way the chapter turned out...but somehow the fact that it was a bank robbery brought this song to mind...then again that's because it's from another movie about a bank robbery...)
This was an unexpectedly interesting and intriguing chapter due to the factor that Nube and his students...well, used everything they used for close to four years of running in WSJ to take down a real life situation like a bank robbery and a hostage crisis. Considering how often that Nube ends up using his powers and skills in matters regarding dangerous monsters, you tend to forget that they can be useful in real life too...though somehow a tad manipulative considering all that Nube used them for in matters much more dangerous. Heck, you could consider ripping out an erethral body or turning a crook into a Dodomeki as rather foul play (let alone sending his own erethral body as a scout to spook out the criminals and show the students he's coming for them), but Nube was just doing his job, both as a teacher and as a person skilled enough to allow for a means to diffuse a hostage situation. However, even with all the weird spiritual powers being revisited this time, there were a couple moments that continue to show why Nube isn't like most of the typical shonen heroes of the magazine. One of which...and probably one of the most interesting, is that he actually did get shot in this chapter. Sure it probably was just a bullet grazed his leg, but it showed that Nube himself is mortal, no matter how many skills he possesses or the powers he can utilize with the Oni no Te. In a magazine where lead characters can probably catch bullets with their teeth or feel nothing, it is this mortality that shows that Nube is still human and that he can get hurt like a human does. The other factor I found interesting was the end: after saving his students from the bank, Nube just ignores all the hype of diffusing the hostage crisis and rather just go out with his own students for more ramen. Nube is a humble character in that regards: no matter what he does, it's never for himself or for fame...which for one thing is a lesson that has been a major factor throughout this year of the series: Nube refuses to do anything for fame or glory, only for the support and love of his students. Another factor that I nearly forgot is the climax with the students summoning the Otonai-san with Nube's help: this is another major sign that the class has become knowledgeable and taken a lot of Nube's lessons and used them in a practical manner, both from their own experiences and from what their teacher has taught them. Keep that in mind as we go further forwards from here on out...
BTW: I could probably do a whole rant about the Nube anime and how the series "should" have been storywise and which chapters should have been used (even if they just stuck with the first three years...but I won't get into it right now.

SFX: Bishi
Kyouko: Kyaaa!!
Nube: …It seems you’re the opponents I’m communicating my talk to. It will be done.
SFX: Suu
Headband Robber: !
182.
Headband Robber: He disappeared!? It’s…a ghost……
Glasses Robber: Worthless…merely sleight of hand! Investigate in the building; he should be hiding somewhere!
Nube: The opposition is five people…
SFX: Goto
Nube: Hold on, everyone.
SFX: Zuru
Hat Robber: You’re investigating the other direction.
Bandana Robber: OK
Hat Robber: I’ll look here.
Sign: Hot Water Room
183.
SFX: Zuru
Nube: Shugorei Switch!
SFX: Paan!
Hat Robber: Wh…what did yu do? You.
SFX: Cha
Nube: Your Shugorei was switched with an evil spirit. It’s best you don’t move awkwardly, since now your terrible luck will be bad.
Hat Robber : Wh…what’s that~~?
SFX: Oooh…
Hat Robber: !?
SFX: Tsuru (slip)
184.
SFX: Kachi
Hat Robber: Gyaaaa
SFX: Gou
Bandana Robber: What’s wrong!! Ah.
Sign: Fire Caution
Hat Robber: I’ll die—I’ll die—(Hi—hi--)
Bandana Robber: S**t…who exactly did that…
SFX: Zubu
185.
Mask Robber: Ah.
186.
Nube: Namu Daiji Daihi Kyuugu Kyuunan Koudai Reikan…
SFX: Katsu—n…katsu—n… | Kiiiiiin…
Mask Robber: Wh…what are you doing—
Nube: Strike.
SFX: Gon!
Glasses Robber: They’re late. What are they doing?
Headband Robber: Shall I go see?
Headband Robber: Ge
187.
190.
Miki: He’ll be defeated like this.
SFX: Doka baka
Kyouko: We’ll save him!
SFX: Ba ba
SFX: Sa
SFX: Sa
SFX: Sa
SFX: Sa
Glasses Robber: I told you don’t move!
Nube: That’s…the route of Otonai-san.
(TN: Then how would Miki and Katsuya know of it? Hiroshi and Kyouko sure [they were there that night with Akira’s home under siege] but those two?)
Nube: Namu Daiji Daihi Kyuugu Kyuunan: Open the spirit route!!
191.
SFX: Zuzuzu
SFX: Zuzu…
Glasses Robber: Uwaaa, th…this is ridiculous—
SFX: Zoro zoro zoro | Oooh…oooh…
192.
Glasses Robber: What exactly are those—
SFX: Zoro zoro zoro

End of Volume Special Supplement (1)
