*Ougi 187 was a “Jumping Out” Manga Special when published in Weekly Shonen Jump. This comic will not jump out at all, but please have fun with what “should” jump out.
(TN: The year 2004 was perhaps one of the biggest year of Bo-bobo’s Jump run. With the manga popular and the anime in the middle of it’s amazing run, Bo-bobo got all sorts of wild and crazy gimmicks and associations, including the toys, video games, and the bizarre team-up with Takeshi Obata. However, in Issue 3-4 of 2005 (which was the Christmas Issue of 2004), another promotion came out as a gift from Sawai and the Jump staff: Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo…IN 3-D! (or as they call it in Japanese “jumping out”) This chapter was published with the special 3-D red & blue images that made everything pop right out at the reader. However…considering that it was a one-time promotion and how most people probably have a hard time reading 3-D comics, the chapter was printed as is and the aforementioned warning was used. But hey…the images still “sort of” look 3-D from how they’re drawn so we should still get a good impression of the wackiness popping right towards us!)

A flying 3-D manga using 3-D Glasses in Jump Magazine!
ABOUT THAT BO-BOBO OUGI 187…

This chapter was specially created when we had the “Flying 3-D Manga” in the magazine: by looking at it with the red and blue cellophane glasses on, they’d get the feeling this time that they’re seeing it jump right out.

This time, the comics have been recorded and there aren’t any special creations or cellophane glasses, so this Ougi 187 has become harder to understand, but this time the characters and the drawings were flying out with 6 gradings of panels and characters. Furthermore, even with the speech and the production of the characters in this, I planned to make Don Patch is conscious to this random 3-D, using a lot of Ougi that could be seen flying out before them and the flying out in this very Jump issue.

While we’re at it, I think there was the feeling of “What is that?” from those reading this comic for the first time, but I’m happy if you read this thinking that the characters were really flying right out of the book in this chapter. Even if you didn’t think that, it is connected to the contents that goes for the next time with “Well, first of all, Byakkyou is defeated”, so with that approximate feeling, please go forth suitable for that one thing.

TN: It's pretty obvious both with the intro captions and Sawai's weird apology at the end but you sort of think it is appropriate with how confused many probably are. This chapter was pretty much a Christmas gimmick of a "3-D Bo-bobo chapter", with the silly glasses and anything. The chapter really wasn't that needed considering most of it was just everyone attacking Byakkyou one after another (and of course Don Patch complaining about it in every turn), mostly considering Byakkyou was pretty much handled at the end of the last chapter and the only really important thing was that climactic final page (but we'll talk about HIM next time). But if you think about it, with the insanity and fun that comes with every Bo-bobo chapter, a 3-D experience was a nice little change in things. Sure it meant nothing was really done in this chapter and we got a lot of gratuitous action and complaining but...it worked out somehow. It was a chapter of fun with weirdly perspectived images in the typical 3-D fashion where they literally make everything looking towards you...think of it like all those other old-fashion 3-D movies and comics and such even if it's not quite in 3-D. So with the fun gimmickery out of the way, we move on to next chapter where...it hits the fan.
