薄氷のように繊細なリーデルグラスに//ルビーを溶かしたような液体が注がれてゆく
The substance, like liquid ruby,// flows into a Riedel glass as fine as thin ice.

グラスの大草に似つかわしくないわずかな量を注いだだけでソムリエはこういう　//「どうぞ、テイスティング」
After pouring a small amount, appropriate for the size of the glass, the sommelier says// “―Please, taste this.”

グラスをテーブルの上で軽く回し空気になじませると
I lightly swirl the glass on the table, and when the wine settles,

ふわりと立ち上がる華やかな香織が鼻腔をくすぐる/一瞬豪華な花束を手渡されたような感覚
a flowery fragrance softly rises to and tickles my nose,/ and for a moment it feels like I was handed a brilliant bouquet.

はやる気持ちを抑えきれず//その液体をろうそくの光に透かす
I can’t hide my excitement.// Passing light through the liquid against a candle,

明るい紫のオールド･ローズ//ワインのエッジはすでにやや橙がかっている
the soft purple of old rose.// The edge already turning a subtle bitter orange.

ゆっくりと舌の上にのせる
I slowly put it on my tongue.

いや、これは花束どころではない　もっと複雑な//そう　まるで百の花の香りを集めたような
―No. This is not a bouquet. It’s more complex.// As if the fragrance of a hundred flowers had been collected.

Miyabi: Ah? Ah, okay. What label?// Waiter: They asked if we have some kind of Romanee Conti.

はぁーマジっすかあ～//でも85年ヴィンテージで100万ならまあ妥当な価格じゃないかな

Miyabi: Oh, okay.// It seems he thinks Romanee Conti and Domaine de la Romanee Conti are the same thing.

Alright, I’ll handle it.

つまりね、ドメーヌっていうのはワイン醸造業者のこと!日本で言うところの～酒蔵を意味する//フランスでも最高レベルのワインを造ってるドメーヌがこのDRC/そのなかの看板ワインで世界的に有名な超高級ワインがロマネ・コンティって言う名前なのよ
Miyabi: You see, domaine means the estate or winery. It’s like wine cellar in English.// The domaine that produces some of the finest wine even in France is this DRC./ Named after the bottler, Romanee Conti is also the name of their signature wine, internationally known, and one of the finest.

Waiter: Errrr….// Miyabi: Well, anyways, I’ll take this ’99 Richebourg and explain it to them.

The drops of wine all together,// like scarlet silk string, straight and smooth,//

注ぎ口に舞い落ちて行く
floating down into the mouth of the decanter.

ワインを知ってから初めて見る/神業のようなデキャンタージュだった―
Since studying wine, I’d never seen/ a decanting as supernatural as that―

若い―つまり造られてからさほど年月の経っていないワインは
It’s a young wine. So say, when not many years have passed since the wine was made,

このようにデキャンタという器にいったん移し替えてから飲むことで//そのポテンシャルを引き出せる場合がある
then to pour it into a decanter like this all at once and serve it,// there are times you can bring out its potential.

しかしただ移し替えればいいというものでわなく偉大でデリケートなワインほど//ワインの香りや旨味やその複雑さを逃さないように
But this doesn’t mean you can just pour the wine from a bottle to another. The more exceptional and fine a wine is,// to not let the aroma, savour, and complexity escape,

絹糸を～紡ぐような繊細で//行わなければならないのだ
the more you will need to do this// with delicacy, as if spinning silk.

あっという間にがちがちのリシュブールがまるで硬い蕾が開くみたいに香りを振りまきだして//ホントに魔法みたいだった!!
Before I knew it, the aroma of the stubborn Richebourg was going around, like a tough blossom opening in the spring.// Really, it was just like magic!!

あんな神業がワインを飲まない人にできるはずないわ!
There’s no way someone who doesn’t drink wine could do something like that!
