なぜだろう//俺はこのワインを飲んで遠い昔のとっくに忘れていた母との別れを思い出したんだ
Shizuku- I don’t know why.// When I drank this wine, I remembered separating from my mother long ago, someone I’d long forgotten.

あれは葡萄畑だった　空は青く澄んでいて季節はもう秋だったけど//その日は暑かった夏を思い出すような強い日ざしで母さんはそれを避けるように大きな帽子を被っていた
I was in a grape field. The sky was blue and clear and the season was already autumn..// But the sun was strong like on a hot summer’s day, and my mom was wearing a large hat to try and avoid it.

俺は畑から勝手に取ってきた葡萄をいっぱいにほおばって//母さんにも食べて欲しくて差し出したんだ
I ate a mouthful of grapes I’d just picked from the field,// and was holding some out for her to eat too.

母さんは受け取ってくれた//でも食べることは出来なかった
My mom took some from me.// But she couldn’t eat them.

それが俺と母さんの//最後のふれあいだったんだ……
That was that last time// my mom and I touched eachother……

I’d completely forgotten,// until I drank this wine just now……

お前もこのワインが’82年の作だということを//雫が事前に知り得たとは思っていまい
You also probably didn’t think that Shizuku could know// the wine was an ’82 vintage, did you.

あれが｢ムートン｣であることくらいは雫も気づいておっただろうがほんの数日前初めてワインを口にしたあの若造にこれが’82年の作であることがわかるはずがない//そこまで知るには過去に同じものを飲んだ経験がなければならないがこのワインはそう簡単に手に入るシロモノではない
Shizuku might’ve realized at least that it was a Mouton, but that young man only first drank wine a couple days before. There’s no way he could’ve figured it was an ’82.// To know that much, you’d have to have had prior experience drinking the wine, and it’s not something that’s that easy to get a hold of.

Maki- Then why// did he remember his mother’s passing away in ’82?

Robert- The grapes.

え?//奴はこのワインのもととなった葡萄を食っておる
Maki- Huh?// Robert- He’d eaten the grapes that are the base of that wine.

このガーネット色の古酒から奴は20年以上も前に一度口にしただけの//まだワインになる前の葡萄の味わいを導き出した
Just from having eaten them once twenty years before,// the grapes, from before they were made into this aged garnet colored wine, helped guide him.

And so with great success, he could understand,// the reason for Yutaka leaving behind that ‘parting wine’.

In comparison, you just simply looked at the wine in the present and tried to express it.// Issei- That’s the kind of match it was.
