Amira: When a girl gets married, she takes a lot of cloth in her dowry.
Hand towels, wrapping cloths, even pieces as big as bedcovers.
All of this is embroidered, so she has to start working on it, bit by bit, as young as possible.

Amira: Because when the wedding gets closer, she’ll be busy making her wedding dress.

Smith: Of course.
So, things like carpets?
Amira: Not really carpets.

Gold thread, silver thread, beads…
It’s not like she’ll be making anything enormous any time soon…

Old woman: You’ll need good dyes.
Woman: And you should buy all the silk thread you need as soon as it’s there.

Tileke’s dad: Is that all?
他には?
Anything else?

Tileke’s mam: If possible, I’d like her to have more silk…

Akunbek: Go on, buy it.

Tileke’s mam: Tileke, try sewing something other than falcons. Flowers, maybe.
I’ve taught you a lot, haven’t I?

Pg 14

Tileke’s mam: So!
Put the falcons aside for a while!

Tileke’s mam: Try to sew something else.
Like what I taught you before.

Tileke: All right.
鳥
Birds.
Tileke’s mam: Apart from birds.

Tileke’s mam: I’ll help you, shall I?
えー?
Tileke: But muuuuum!
Tileke’s mam: Don’t you “muuum” me!

Amira: Your clothes are always really pretty.
Pariya: Well, that’s…
My parents help with half of it.

Amira: Helped?
Pariya: Well, I do some of it myself.
But not all of it.
How can I say it? I add the finishing touches, as it were.
…
…

Pg 17

Pariya: All right, I lied, I have no confidence!
I’m horrible at sewing!
I’m not very good at it!

Amira: Really?
But you’re really good at making bread.
(Pariya: It’s edible!)
Pariya: Bread is fine! I can make bread!
But embroidery is too fiddly and I get annoyed.

Amira: You get annoyed?
そうです
Pariya: I do!
I much prefer weaving!

Amira: Is that so…
…
…

(Pariya: Um, don’t tell anyone, okay?)
(If it got out, I’d never get a husband…)
(Amira: But when you marry, it’ll come out anyway, won’t it?)

Pg 18

…
-…

Pg 19

Tileke: … Mum?

んー?
Tileke’s mam: What?

She was very skilled at embroidery.

Pg 21

Tileke’s mam: That’s how skilled she was.

Pg 22

Tileke’s mam: Now sit up straight.
And keep going.

Pg 23

Tileke: But it’s boring.

Tileke’s mam: It’s not a case of being boring.
You have to be able to sew anything, or else.

Tileke: Or else what?
Tileke’s mam: Or else when you become a mother, you won’t be able to teach your children.

…
Tileke’s mam: …

Tileke: What if my children like falcons too?
Tileke’s mam: You’ll still have to teach them other things!

Tileke’s mam: Tileke, haven’t you seen?
We have a lot of beautiful old family patterns here.

見てない

It looks a lot like my grandmother’s crest.

Balkirsh: It does.

Pg 27

Tileke: Did you create all of these patterns?
Balkirsh: Not all of them.

Balkirsh: My mother…
My grandmother, and my great-grandmother created many of them.
