…Recently I learned that seeing us off like this wasn’t normal.

KOMA: …But still, it’s mysterious how in the world [ i]that[ i] mother and [ i]that[ i] father met each other…
*[note: They use otou-san and okaa-san for dad and mom respectively]
RIKO: Oh?
RIKO: You didn’t know, Koma-chan?
KOMA: Huh? You know, Onee?
RIKO: Uh huh.
RIKO: I’ve heard of it from our father before.
KOMA: That’s not fair, Onee!
Tell me too~!!
RIKO: Sure, okay.
RIKO: …Oh… It might actually not be OK.
KOMA: Why’s that!?
RIKO: Because it’s rated R
KOMA: [ b]Rated R!?[ /b]
p.91
Want to hear it?
RIKO: Something like content-wise it’s not really good if a child hears this.
SFX: Ahaha
RIKO: That’s what father was saying.
KOMA: ……
KOMA: What kind of meeting was it…
RIKO: But I was about your age when I heard this.
RIKO: Maybe it’s fine if I tell you…
KOMA: You can’t follow it yourself…
KOMA mutter: The R rating…
[none]
RIKO: …Want to hear it?
KOMA: ……
SFX: errr
KOMA: I kinda do, I kinda don’t…
p.92
It’s okay!
RIKO: When father was young, he ran away from home and was working in the city at night.
KOMA: [ b]…The city at night!?[ /b]
KOMA: Right away this story seems so dangerous…
One day father was asked “I’ve got a nice paying job, wanna give it a try?” by the manager of the store he was working at.
That was a door-to-door sales job that was popular in those days where you say “I’m from the fire department” and sell fire extinguishers at exorbitant prices…
KOMA: W…wait a sec!!
KOMA: O…Onee, isn’t that scamming…!?
RIKO: Ahaha
RIKO: It’s okay Koma-chan!
RIKO: It’s already prescription!*
*[Prescription – The limitation of time beyond which an action, debt, or crime is no longer valid or enforceable. Also called negative prescription. Except I dunno if I used it correctly :D]
SFX: Ahaha
SFX: shock
KOMA: Is… is that the problem!?
p.93
I wonder if it’s okay?
Father, who had trouble making ends meet, took on the job without a second thought.
Mother was the one he met with going door-to-door.
Mother, who was reclusive from that time, didn’t come out when the doorbell was rung.
Father, having been told “when no one’s home, check the type and amount of their laundry” by the manager-san, went around to the backyard.
KOMA: W…wait a sec!!
KOMA: Wh…why would he do such a thing…?
KOMA: I can’t see it as anything other than preparation for some sort of crime…!?
RIKO: Ahaha
RIKO: It’s okay Koma-chan!!
RIKO: It ended as an attempt!
SFX: Ahaha
KOMA: …You’re too unshakable, Onee…………
p.94
Is that… okay?
At any rate, that’s where father and mother had their destined first encounter.
What a dramatic first meeting!
KOMA: …Kind of like detective dramatic, though…
KOMA mutter: Police documentary-esque? [2]
It seems father was 18, mother was 13 at the time.
And the following year their first daughter, that’s me, was happily born.
KOMA: S…stop right there!!!
KOMA: Their ages! Their ages are weird!!
KOMA: Especially mother’s!!!
RIKO: Ahaha
RIKO: It’s okay Koma-chan.
RIKO: An age gap is nothing if you have love…!
SFX: daze~
SFX: shock
KOMA: No that’s not what’s weird!!
p.95

TEACH: Okay~ I’m giving you handouts~
KOMA: …I heard a very heavy story right from the beginning of the day…
SFX: Urgh…
SFX: ache
KOMA: I’m not as broadminded has Onee, so it hit me pretty hard…
Mutter: My stomach…
Girl: …Here Koma-chan, handouts…
SFX: flap

~~notes~~
[1] Greetings are very commonplace and basically standard procedure in Japanese culture, like “ittekimasu” and “itterasshai” for example.
[2] Originally she says “Keisatsu 24-ji” (police 24 hours), which is apparently a name for documentaries on the Japanese police. Don’t know much about this one.
[3] First of all, they were obviously talking about Japanese words. The first was “sewashii” and “sewashinai” which mean the same thing: “busy; restless.” Next was “zotto suru” and “zotto shinai” which aren’t opposites and mean: having hairs stand on “end; fearsome” and “not interesting; not impressed.” I know dictionaries say irregardless is not a real word, but they’re only trying (in vain) to kill it because the parts of the word don’t properly make sense. But it’s mostly because it’s all I found to replace it with.
[4] He says “ote wo haishaku” which seems to refer to the Japanese custom of “tejime,” rhythmic hand clapping. Lookup-able.
