Jio to Ougon to Kinjirareta Mahou 4

One more of my awful translations... this time it's to get it checked for the new translators ranking system. I'm 100% sure I'll get ranked as a trainee (the lowest level), but I guess I have to try it anyway... All of my previous translations I posted in MH are already checked, so I can't use them to get myself ranked... Which means I need to get 4 translations more done before the system is implemented...

Elkin said this manga was easy, and even I could give it a try. But actually it was harder than that. I noticed that it was easier than other manga I translated before, but even so there's stuff I don't get... which means I'm really sucky... Heck, I've been trying to learn Japanese for almost a year now, I should already know more stuff... But to be honest, I can't even read raws, I can just transcribe and look up every single word... and that shows how much damn sucky I am.

As always, don't use this translation for scanlations nor international translations until it's been checked and proofread.

[T/N: Is Ougon a name...? Because “gold” would really make no sense so far in the story... Though so far all names appeared are in katakana and non-Japanese... Guess I'll have to ask Elkin.]

【サザーイアリエスって名前なんだ。】
Jio: So his name is Sazaai Aries.

『いかがなさいました？　かような所へ。』
-What happened? You will not go back there.
『容疑者捕まえたんで、調書をとろうと思ってな。』
Saza: I have arrested a suspect, I am going to apply the protocol.

-If you only focus on that kind of trifles, we will...

『こいつさ、　｜　面白いから俺がやりてーの。』『楽しみ奪わないでくれる？』

Saza: After this, I'll apply the protocol.

Saza: Hm, first of all answer to my questions.

『うん、わかった！』
Jio: All right, I get it!

「なんとも裏表がなさそうだな。」
Saza: He doesn't seem to be hiding anything.

「少しでも裏がありゃ、俺の弟子になるのを断ったらしねえか・・・」
Saza: But I wonder if he'd do fine as my disciple...?
『じゃ始めるぞ。』
Saza: Let's get started then.
『うん。』
Jio: All right.

『？　｜　どうしたの？』
Saza: ? / What's wrong?

『名前はジオ。　｜　ジオのみ。』『のみって、いつの人間だって話だが・・・』
Saza: Your name is Jio. / Just Jio. // When you talk about that, you sound relaxed...

Jio: That isn't a lie.
『ああ、　｜　親が不明だからなんだよな。』
Saza: Yeah, / who cares if you don't know who your parents are.

『んで、年齢もわからない。』『じゃあ誰に育てられたかというと・・・』
Saza: But even so, you don't know your age either. // Then, who raised you...?

『イレガウラだよ！』
Jio: Iregaura did!

『三賢者ね。』
Saza: From the Three Wise Sages, right?

『ついでに、将来の夢は世界一の魔法使い・・・っと。』
Saza: By the way... you dream to become the number one magician in the world in the future... isn't it?

『わざわざ言うことかよ。』『その世界の人間なら誰だって一番の魔法使いになりたいさ。』
Saza: Do you say that expressly? // Out of all the people in the world, everybody wants to get to be the best magician.

『５位や６位になりたい奴なんていねぇだろ。』
Saza: There's no way you can become even the number 5 or 6.

Jio: But...
『それに、そもそも一位ってどうやって決めんだよ。』
Saza: What's more, first of all you haven't even decided how you'll make it to the number one.

『別に、一位を決める大会がある訳でもねえんだぜ。』
Saza: In particular, the number one is decided by convention.

『でも、』
Jio: But

『世界一の魔法使いはある』『オレにはわかるんだ』
Jio: I will make it to the number one. // That I know.
[T/N: Er, once again I'm making things up because the way I understand the sentence doesn't fit anything at all. In japanese there's no future tense, and I think this sentence is supposed to say “but I am the number one”...]

『・・・・・・』『どうして？』
Saza: ...... // Why's that?

『それは・・・』
Jio: I just know...

Jio: Somehow or other...

『アッハッハッ。』『わかるって断言しといてそれかよ。』
Saza: Ahaha. // That sure says a lot on how you know.

Jio: (Uh...)

『駄目だな。』
Saza: That's no good.

『それじゃ釈放はできない。』
Saza: Well then, I can't release you.
『えっなんで！？』
Jio: Eh? Why's that?!

『当然だろうが。何もかも不明な点ばっかで、　｜　わかったのは、お前が面白い奴だってことくらいだ。』
Saza: I guess it's natural though. Just about every single thing about you is obscure, / that's why I think you're the interesting kind of guy.

【うぐ・・・】『そんなこと言ったって・・・』
Jio: (Ugh...) // But even if I told you....

Saza: Wait.

『ここはお前の過去の世界だ。』
Saza: This is the world from your past.

『ああ、今見てる光景はあの魔具が見せているもんだ。』
Saza: Yeah, that magical tool is showing what we're seeing now.

『俺たちは、意識だけの幻みたいなもんだ。』
Saza: Only our consciousness is here, as if we were ghosts.
『ふぉーー　【やっぱスゴイ！】』
Jio: Hoo! (that's also great!)

『ありがと！』『そんな凄い魔具、使ってくれて。』
Jio: Thanks // for using that amazing magical tool!

『・・・別に、おまえのために使った訳じゃない。』
Saza: ...In fact, I haven't done it for you.

『お前の過去を見れば、世界一の魔法使いについて何か分かると思ったからな。』
Saza: If I take a look at your past, I'll understand somewhat why you want to become the magician number one in the world.

Saza: Not getting to be the number one won't increase your affinity to magic. // And the number one isn't decided by convention.

『でも、逆説的に考えれば？』
Saza: But don't you think it's like a paradox?

『それが使えれば世界一の魔法使いと認めざるを得ない・・・』『そんな魔法があるならば、世界一の魔法使いは存在する。』
Saza: If you can use that, I'll have no choice but to acknowledge you as the best magician in the world... // If you can get to that magic, you'll be the number one.

『そっか・・・』
Jio: Really...?

Saza: ...Huh?

Jio: Since I said that I'd get to be the number one in the world... // I'll keep believing that I'll get there.

『・・・おめでたい奴だな。』
Saza: ...You sure are someone special.
『そっかな？』
Jio: Is that so?

Saza: Kind...?

「なぜだろうな俺はーー・・・」
Saza: How come I am......?

Saza: Hey...

Saza: Hey, // wasn't Iregaura an old man?

Jio: ...Yes. // But...

「若すぎる・・・あれはどう考えても２０代・・・こいつの過去ならせいぜい１５年前程度のはずだ。」
Saza: Young... that looks like he's 20 years old... But the past of this guy shouldn't go further than 15 years in the past.

『でも・・・　｜　イレガウラだ・・・』『間違いない・・・』
Jio: But... / it's Iregaura... // Without a doubt...

「どういうことだ・・・！？」
Saza: How can this be...!?
若き日のイレガウラを見つけたジオ。想いは募り・・・次号、ＣＣ（センターカラー）！！
Jio found Iregaura in his younger days. The feelings grow stronger... Color in the next chapter!!
