They're being manipulated by the Shadow.

I understand now. The reason everyone up in that tall place is still sane is because there aren't any shadows up there.

まだ　真っ暗な牢の中に居た時にミオ先生から教わった
Mistress Mio taught me about this back when I was still in my dark prison.

カゲの中には自分の影を伸ばし　人間の皮膚などから脊髄という所まで進入し　精神をコントロールできるものもいます
There are Shadows who can stretch out and enter a human through their skin and get into the spinal cord. From there they can control the person.

それじゃあ　どこから影が伸びているかでどいつが操っているかすぐバレるんじゃ
That means if you follow the shadow back you'll find out who's manipulating the person?

そうね　だから少し賢いカゲは他の影の上に自分の影を重ねて這わせ　目立たない様にするの
That's right. So clever Shadows will creep their shadows through already existing ones so theirs doesn't stand out.

この街にはカゲを遮断しようとし　逆にカゲに利用されているものがある
They tried to seal off the Shadow, but ended up being used by them.

The tall wall!!

壁によって昼間　特に朝は大きな影ができる　その影に包まれた部分では這わせ放題になる！！
The wall makes a big shadow in the mornings and midday. They can creep their shadows along as much as they want within that shadow.

上の方にいる者が操られていないのは壁による影がないため
The people up there aren't being manipulated because there's no shadow from the wall.

大体　男は俺達を殺そうとし美女だけを裸で連れ出すってのはカゲの仕業に決まってる！
And the fact that the man are trying to kill us but the women are all naked and being taken away means this has to be the Shadow's work!

夜は街の灯で壁の影は街の外側にできる
At night the lights of the town cast the shadow on the other side of the wall.

陽が沈めば正気に戻る・・・壁の影が街の中に無くなる事でみつかることを恐れてカゲを引っ込めるからだ
They'll return to their senses when the sun sets... because the wall's shadow goes away and the Shadow would be afraid of being found out.
