[Translator's note: This is the famed battle where Nobunaga defeated Imagawa Yoshimoto.]

Oda Nobunaga has launched an all out attack on Saitou Tatsuoki's Inabayama Castle.

?: We've taken the second tower!
?: The victory of our Oda Army is near!

pg 4-5
Vol 1. Gonbei Enters
Text: Within the castle, there is a young warrior shaking with fear-----Saitou clan retainer, Sengoku Gonbei Hidehisa (15)

Sengoku: I'm scared....

pg 6

Sengoku: How did I get separated from my unit?
What should I do now?!

pg 7

?: No more of this, I'm running.
?: Our defenses have completely crumbled. Guuuuhh!
?: Gyah!

?: It's useless. Nothing more can be done. Kill him.

pg 8
Old man: Gonbei! That's the sound of allied fire.

Sengoku: Sorry, old man Kawa
Kawa: You have such a big body.

Kawa: Even so, are you a warrior? Right now some women are being ravished.
Sengoku: Women?! Ravished?!
Sengoku: Ochou!

pg 9
Kawa: Hey!
Sengoku: Ochou! Where are you?! Are you okay, Ochou?!

?: Ah!
Sengoku: A woman's voice.

pg 10
?: Huh?
Sengoku: Boss!
Boss: What's this, the new kid?
Boss: Give up already. Looks like our lord's gonna flee.
Boss: Have you had a woman? Do one before you die!
Right now you can even have a concubine or a princess!
Hahahahah!

pg 11
Sengoku: Damn it!
Please, let Ochou be okay!

Sengoku: Urgh

pg 12

Ochou: Ah? Sengoku-dono?
What's happened?

Sengoku: Thank goodness! (middle bubble)
Text: How like her... she's a tough girl.
Ha ha hahahahha.

pg 13
Sengoku: Wahahahaha!
Ochou: What?!?
It's annoying how you can laugh at a time like this!

Sengoku: No, Ochou-dono...
Ochou: You don't have to say "dono." We're childhood friends, and you're a samurai and I'm just a lady-in-waiting.

Sengoku: Okay.
What...what should I call the girl I like?

Sengoku: Eeee.
Ochou: What? I can't hear you.

pg 14
Sengoku: Never mind.
I thought someone might have done something bad to you.
Ochou: You fool! Hold your tongue.

Ochou: Uh... I'm not interested in men like that.
Sengoku: Uh....er.... is there someone you like?
Never mind, I didn't mean to say that...

Ochou: What do you want to say?! We might die here!
Sengoku: Uh...
(larger bubble in corner) : I was just worried and came here.

Oino: Ochou! Come here already!

pg 15
Oino: Our lord said he would lead us to safety!
What are you doing chatting like that?

Sengoku: Oino nee-san!
(bubble) What's this? Ochou can escape?
Ochou: Sen...

?: The ladies have an important role to play. That man is useless, leave him here to die.

Ino: Ochou, hurry! You'll die if you stay here!

pg 16
Sengoku: Hurry, go!
These are our lord's orders.

Ochou: Sen...

Sengoku: It's too bad!
I saw you crying. I came here thinking that you'd be smiling.

Sengoku: You really aren't cute at all. Go, go.

Text: .....Thank goodness. Now Ochou will be safe.

pg 17
Text: But.... I've put others in front of me...
Even though I'm so scared..

Old man: You let the girl go before you, Gonbei?
Old man: Well done.

Sengoku: Old man Kawa...

Sengoku: You're alive...
You said that I had potential...

pg 18
Old man: Gonbei... you're big, and strong.
Old man: But you don't know anything about battle.

Old man: Swords are useless in a real battle.

Old man: Listen up. Before, I used to write up the reports after a battle (gunchuujou).
Old man: Those numbers tell the true story of battle.

Old man: The most fearsome thing is the bow.
Old man: 70% of deaths are from arrows.

Old man: The remaining 30% are from spears, swords, and thrown rocks.

Note (in box): Gunchuujou=reports sent to the commander after a battle. These would record how many heads had been taken by each battalion, and how many soldiers had died. They also determined who would be awarded honors.

pg 19
Old man: Nothing will come of just one warrior swinging around a sword.
Old man: Don't live on shamefully.

Old man: Watch me as I cut open my stomach.
Old man: This is a beautiful death worthy of a warrior.

pg 20
(no dialogue)

pg 21
Sengoku: Old man Kawa!!!
Ka...

Sengoku: Don't die!!!!

Sengoku: Old man Kawa!!! Noooooooo!!!
Sengoku: Am I going to die too?!??!!

pg 22
Sengoku: I just want to see Ochou.
I just want to see Ochou.

Sengoku: I've fallen for her.

Sengoku: I've always, always always
Sengoku: loved Ochou!!!!!

?: Gonbei.

pg 23
(no text)

pg 24
Ochou: It's funny... When we would meet, all we would do was fight.

Sengoku: O...
SG: Ochou, you should have run off with our lord by now...
Ochou: No..

Ochou: I wanted to be with you, Gonbei.
Ochou: That's why I came back.

Ochou: To die with you.
Ochou: Both of us were such fools. If only we had been honest with each other sooner.

pg 25
Ochou: But we can't fight with each other anymore. It ends here.

pg 26
?: A woman
?: I'll have a woman before I die!
?: Get outta the way, kid!

Sengoku: Is... Is this it? (split between two bubbles)

pg 27
Sengoku: Go! Quickly!
Sengoku: Hurry! Get out of here with our lord!
Sengoku: Please!
Sengoku: Please live!

pg 28-9
Sengoku: I will definitely stay alive!
Sengoku: Definitely! I'll live and escape this castle!
Sengoku: Even if I'm dying
Sengoku: I will live on!

pg 30
Ochou: You... You can't fight alone.
Sengoku: Quiet!
Sengoku: For once, believe in me!
Sengoku: Who do you think I am?

Sengoku: I am the fourth son of the Sengoku clan, Gonbei Hidehisa.
Sengoku: I'm a head taller than most adults, five shoku and seven sun!
Sengoku: When I was a kid, I was able to help lift a military bell that usually two adults carry!
Sengoku: Wanting this power, the Iyo Hagiwara clan adopted me!

Sengoku: How's that!
Ochou: You boast a lot, so you get into fights.
Ochou: You idiot!

Ochou: Gonbei...
Sengoku: What?!

pg 31
Text: Please don't die
Ochou: I wish you luck in battle.
Sengoku: Shaaaaaaa!

pg 32
Sengoku: Do you remember the docks on the Nagara River where we used to play when we were kids?

Ochou: Yes
Ochou: Below the castle, at the bonfire where the cormorant fishing boats passed.

Sengoku: Let's meet there!

?: Hey, what're you doing?

pg 33
Sengoku: I'm not scared anymore.
Sengoku: Or confused
Sengoku: I only want to live!

pg 34-5
?: Gya! It's a warrior on horseback!
Is he a famous general?

?: Let's take his head!

pg 36
?: The most fearsome thing is the bow
?: 70% of deaths in battle are from arrows.

pg 37
?: Get his head!
Sengoku: Aaaaaaaah!
Sengoku: Where is the general?!?!?!

pg 38
?: He's just a moron.
?: Get a bow and shoot him down!

?: Hey, put down the bow.
?: What if we hit one of our allies?

?: He's swinging that spear around on a horse. And he's not using a saddle.
?: He knows nothing about fighting.

?: You need two hands to use a spear.
?: But if you don't hold the reins, you'll fall off the horse and die.

?: If you want to fight, then get off! If you want to go somewhere, then get back on! These are the iron rules of warfare!

pg 39
?: He's fallen off the horse. Just like I said!

Sengoku: Sorry! Let's go!
Sengoku: Jump!

?: Whaaaa

pg 40

Sengoku: I love you too.
Let's live on together.

Sengoku: I
I will live on!

pg 41
Sengoku: I will live, definitely!
I will see Ochou again!

Sengoku: Ooooooooooo!!
?: What the?!

pg 42
Sengoku: I am Sengoku Gonbei!!!!

pg 43
?: Wh-
What's this?

Text: It is incredibly difficult to use a spear on horseback.
Cavalry units during the Sengoku period used horses mainly for movement. It was rare for them to fight mounted.

According to the Kouyou Gunkan, even the fabled cavalry of the Takeda clan would "usually dismount and then fight."

Small text: Kouyou Gunkan: A military manual written by a former retainer of the Takeda clan (though other theories exist), Obata Kagenori, during the early Edo period.
