Nobume: Altana is,
A new energy resource that the Amanto discovered.
It is a current of energy that winds around the Earth. You might even say it is the life force of the planet itself.
In this country, it's known as the “Dragon Vein”.

Nobume: Correct. Conversion of Altana energy can result in the invention of different practical uses.

Nobume: One use is bridging the gap of interplanetary travel.
Another is creating weapons with the power to annihilate entire planets.
In short, those who grasp the power of Altana also grasps the rights to use it in various ways.
Countless wars have been fought for Altana.
It's because of this danger and a sense of unease that Governments of several countries decided to make an agreement of nonaggression in regards to Altana.
So called “holes” were created to collectively manage Altana, and to that end organizations were also created to ensure it's use.
These were known as Altana conservation associations.
Who would subsequently become,
The organization known as Tendoushuu.

Gintoki: So basically, the guys who were supposed to manage this power used it to gain leverage so they could eventually be on equal footing with an entire nation?
Katsura: We cannot allow them to wantonly cover up the existence of these holes on this planet.

Above a “hole” there was a forest that deviated from common growth, and grew to gigantic proportions. Rivers above the “hole” would heal sicknesses of those who bathed in their waters.
Basically, Altana would affect living beings in unheard ways that would defy reason.
And it was because of that on this planet that a certain man appeared.

A name that has been transferred from the founders of the Tenshouin Naraku since olden times.
The head of the Naraku would inherit this name, the assassination techniques and crow mask throughout the eras...
And Statesmen would use their services.
….Is what was thought, at any rate.
However reality differs from this.
It was during the peaceful rule of the Tokugawa regime that the use of the Tendoshuu and Naraku's time was discovered.
The present time's “Utsuro” had disappeared mysteriously and for a long while the Naraku existed without a leader.
Those who betrayed the organization were to atone with death. That being the iron clad rule, they went looking for him high and low.

It was as if he was a completely different person.
