Chapter 26: The Phantom Pass Route

//

Kakeru:

…

//

Seven:

…

---------------------------

//

Kakeru:

4… 4-0 …

Seven:

To think that the fourth goal happened just right after they substituted four players when they're three goals up...

//

Kakeru:

Whether in terms of techniques, ball control or others, Kaihin is in a better position.

Nobody would expect the score to turn out like this.

Araki:

Do you get it now, Mr. Genius's brother?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Araki:

!

Kakeru:

Araki- sempai!

Sfx- munch munch

//

Seven:

What are you doing here?

(s)Eating all these high calorie food(s)

Araki:

Er … I heard that Kaihin High’s manager is busty.

//

Kakeru:

Haha, you say that but in reality she's probably...

Araki:

It is her!

//

Araki:

Ah- there's the manager.

Kakeru:

What?

Sfx- Turn

//

Kakeru:

!?

Sfx- Ta-dah

Sfx- Wobble Wobble

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sumo:

Hu … (Or as usual, we can replace this with Pant)

Background text:

It’s hot …

Kakeru:

… Ehr?

//

Araki:

Yea-h that's a nice bust. (s)I might as well aim for that size!(s)

Kakeru:

…

//

Seven:

What do you mean by "What!"? I can't believe you looked.

Kakeru:

Wait- I didn't mean-

Sfx – *Pot* (An awkward situation)

//

Kakeru:

That’s enough! You are here because you are concerned of the match between SC and FC?

That explains why you are here to observe the match, right?

Seven:

…

//

Seven:

Why are you stubborn? You could have just returned.

//

Araki:

Return to the team that is unable to play official matches?

Do you really want me to continue playing beach football for the next 3 years?

Kakeru:

Why don’t you get it?

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Araki:

I understood it.

//

Araki:

Just by watching this match, it reaffirms my beliefs.

What Coach Iwaki mentioned is just an ideal.

//

Araki:

I was also led here by his ideals to play in that team and enrol at Enoshima High.

In the end, I wasn’t even able to play one single match for an entire year.

//

Kakeru:

…

Araki:

If I can't play how I want to, it would be like the team having their hands tied behind their backs. This way I can't play to the best of my ability.

//

Araki:

The national tournament selections, the preliminaries, the Kanagawa League…

I couldn’t even make it to the bench. It is frustrating to watch from the sidelines.

------------------------------------------------------------

Araki:

What is it really for...

I …

//

Kakeru:

…

//

Araki:

If it is a football game that doesn't involve competition, wouldn't it be good if we all finish within a year?

That is why I decided to retire before the summer vacation.

//

Seven:

What …how could you have got this fat in just 2 weeks?

Background (Seven):

How’s that possible!

Araki:

Don’t tell me that this is what’s bothering you?

Kakeru:

…

Sfx – Shock

//

Araki:

Furthermore … about Kondou oji- san’s method,

Seven:

You must be eating too much of those high calorie foods.

Araki:

Don’t meddle in my affairs.

Araki:

He must have his reasons.

Sfx- Rustle Rustle

------------------------------------------------------------------

Araki:

It is nearly impossible for Enoshima High to attract those superstars,

when our standards are only at the district level.

Kakeru:

…

Araki:

The best way to form a winning team that has differences in football standards would be to select the players using physical attributes.

//

Araki:

To tell you the truth, this year's SC is a more complete team compared to last year.

Even if it is just those newly enrolled first years, they began their training December last year after they had received their enrolment confirmation.

//

Araki:

That coach really has the ambition to make sure that Enoshima High wins the nationals.

And the purpose of that team is to fulfill that ambition. That is what I learnt after experiencing it myself.

//

Seven:

What was the match about?

//

Araki:

…

It is the same as Kaihin High’s match today …

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Araki:

In the first half, FC was dominating the match.

//

Araki:

We used a combination of dribbles and short passes to fool SC.

//

Araki:

We had a lot of chances.

But we are unable to convert them. In the end, we were made to pay in the second half.

//

Mako:

It feels that we could win this one.

Araki:

We should score one during the second half.

//

Oda:

…

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Araki:

Fatigue has taken its toll in the second half and there were lapses.

//

Commentator:

Corner!

Araki:

Then it suddenly happened...

//

//

Araki:

The chain of events that led us to believe in the effectiveness of player selection based on physical attributes.

(T/L note: Okay this part is tricky, literal translation would mean ‘It lead us to witness the difference in physical attributes’. However I strongly believe that this part of the speech means the effectiveness of the selection test is being witnessed here.)

//

Araki:

A goal that will cause one to be speechless...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Araki:

The end result is devastating.

//
Araki:

They shored up their defence. Even if we try to attack, we are met with resistance and the ball in our possession will just be stolen away.

Just like Kaihin High, we got ourselves into a state of despair.

In the end, the final result is 4-1. We don’t even have the right to laugh at Kaihin.

//

Commentator:

5 -0, Enoshima High wins.

Sfx- Peep Peeeep Peeeep

//

//

------------------------------------------------------------------

Araki:

…

It is just like what Suguru has said.

//

Araki:

I am just a frog in the well that doesn’t know the outside world,

a person, who doesn’t know his limits.

Kakeru:

Who was the one that scored the only goal?

Hah?

//

Kakeru:

It was 4-1 right? Who was the one that scored the solitary goal and how did he do it?

Araki:

…
//

Araki:

It was me. During the dying minutes, I took a shot from the middle of the field and scored.

Kakeru:

You hadn't really given up on it, had you!

//

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kakeru:

Aren't you still thinking of scoring even just before the final whistle is blown?

//

Kakeru:

Why did you choose to quit now?

Araki:

…

//

Kakeru:

It feels like I am lecturing you. But in fact, I did …

//

Kakeru:

Think of quitting soccer once.

Background (Kakeru):

I wish to retire from the soccer club.

//

Kakeru:

But it feels great that I didn’t have to quit soccer.

That is why Araki- sempai should …
Araki:

Please do not assume that you understand everything.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kakeru:

…

Araki:

I am very confident of my passes.

I am also proud to admit that my passes wouldn’t lose to Suguru.

//

Araki:

But what happens afterwards?

We were left helpless after being undone by them.

Not even a single pass could breach their defence.

//

Araki:

I spent 60 minutes in both the first and second halves,

Trying to come up with a pass that could break through their defence.

But I couldn't come up with any solutions no matter what I did.

//

Kakeru:

If we can’t find the answer, why not create one of our own?

Araki:

What?

//

Kakeru:

It might be possible if the both of us could create it.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Kakeru:

A pass that could puncture a hole in their iron defence within a moment of a second!

A phantom pass route!

//

Seven:

…

//

Araki:

…

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Araki:

Did you see my pass earlier?

//

Araki:

That is one of my specialties! You shouldn’t have that much of it either. It is rare even to discover that passing route.

Suguru:

I admit that you’re good.

//

Araki:

He he …

//

Suguru:

But,

I know of an even rarer passing route.

//
Araki:

Huh? What is it about?

Suguru:

It is a passing route that couldn’t be done by one person alone.

//

Suguru:

It can only be created by 2 people.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Araki:

…

Kakeru:

It feels that I am acting cool, right? But I am really serious about it.

//

Kakeru:

I am seriously aiming at the Nationals as my target.

That is why …

Sfx- Turn

//

Kakeru:

Hah! Araki- sempai, listen to me! About Nii-san’s diary …

Seven:

Kakeru!

//

//

Seven:

It’s okay. I am sure that Kakeru’s feelings are …

Able to be transmitted to him.

//

Sfx- Clunk

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Seven:

It is all up to him to determine his own path.

//

Kakeru:

…

True.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Mako:

Coach, have you seen both Kakeru and Nana?

//

Iwaki:

They informed me that SC is having a practice match with Kaihin High.

They even told me that they want to watch it. That is why I gave them the permission to do so.

Mako:

Huh? Why did you agree to that?

It would have the opposite effect if they are scared witless after watching that match!

//

Iwaki:

That shouldn’t be a problem, Mako.

I went to take a peek at the match and saw a familiar person there as well.

//

Araki:

Coach Iwaki!

//

//

Araki:

I have something that I want to discuss with you.

Is it possible?

--------------------------------------------------

//

Iwaki:

Of course.

//

//

Younger Sister!

Mom!

The fried dumplings are charred! I want a new one …

Mom:

You’re making such a big fuss. It doesn’t matter that much in that condition.

//

Kakeru:

…

Younger sister:

I am a gourmet.

Mom:

You could finish the fillings and then throw away the wrapping.

Kakeru:

I know that it is up to Araki- sempai to choose …

Sfx- Stir Stir

//

Kakeru:

But I can’t seem to keep my cool.

Sfx- Clunk

Sfx- Sparkle

//

Mom:

Kakeru, where are you going? You haven’t finished your dinner.

Younger Sister:

Good chance!

Sfx- Quick Swap

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kakeru:

Huh?

Araki- sempai isn’t in?

//

Phonecall speaker:

That’s right! That foolish son of mine

was busy packing his stuff after returning from school.

He told me that he wouldn’t be back home for a period of time and not to worry about him.

He later vanished with his harvest pack without telling me of the location.

//

Kakeru:

Disappeared? Where could he have gone to?

Phonecall speaker:

I’ve no idea. He has a weird personality.

It shouldn’t have been like the last time …

//

Phonecall speaker:

Run off to the Southern Islands.

I can’t be bothered about him.

Kakeru:

Southern … Southern Islands?

OK, I went through your translation. As far as "accuracy" goes, I'm not sure whose fault it is.... the other translation or yours ><. Anyway, I've changed a few things... But you'll need a good proofreader to improve the flow and make it more "natural" sounding ^^;

With that said, here are my suggestions:

(s)Eating all these fast food(s)
In the Japanese one she says "Eating high calorie food again, I see"

Ho ho ho, you did it again. Actually about that …
haha, you say that but in reality she's probably...

Araki:

It is her!
Ah- there's the manager. (best to remove anything that gives away the gender)

She’s removing her clothes!
Taking off their clothes!! (same here)

Stole glimpse
(not sure where you get stole glimpse from, but he says "Ehhh"

Not bad … nipples. (s)Maybe I should start gaining fats too(s)
Yea-h that's a nice bust. (s)I might as well aim for that size!(s)

How shameful … you actually stole glimpse of it!
"Ehh" my ass! I can't believe you looked.

No … It isn’t this way.

Oh, I literally removed the high calorie food because it sounded too technical'ish. I just want to keep it simple for the readers so I changed to fast food intentionally.

As for the 'ass', I didn't really change it because I want to keep my script clean of vuglar words like 'shit, the 'F' word and of course ass'. ^.^;

For the rest of the changes, I've made them.

Your English is good. There are only little errors with correct tense and grammar. Since you prefer British English, I've had to change a lot of things concerning that. Don't worry! It is very easy to get confused with which is British and which is American. Plus, British English is often more complicated.

I don't know if you want to change 'Mom' to the more British 'Mum' or not, so I will just call your attention to it here.

Unfortunately, I can't read Mandarin, so you may have to do a little guessing with some of my corrections. It's not that your translation is bad, but the meaning can be more than one thing and I may have done it incorrectly. I'm sorry if it is a problem.

I've used '***' to separate each correction and have put lines where you have put lines. Hopefully it is a bit easier to figure out where it needs to be corrected. Though it would be even easier if you included the page numbers, or numbered the pages yourself. Then you do not have to search a while for what I have corrected.

Are the characters playing both American football and soccer? If not, you must either change all to 'football' (more British, but you may need to make a note for American readers) or 'soccer'.
