The organization's warrior number 35.
The Nickname's Origin
(Lit.: The Reason for the Nickname)
That was the first number given to Roxanne.
The three resurrected former number one warriors that are the organization's final trump card point a murderous blade at Miria's group......!!
It began with a single awakened hunt.
(The term 覚醒者討伐 is literally "awakened being suppression", but that's just too long)
Roxanne took part in that battle as part of the hunting team, which was rare considering her number.
The leader was the number 5 at the time, Elizabeth.
Continuing with the lower numbers 18, 22, and 31, it was a team of five, including Roxanne.
The placement of this fifth person who did not really count at all
could be called a whimsical formation without any particular meaning to the organization.
That warrior's name was Uranus.
Though she was only number 31, she had a lot of experience with awakened hunts due to the fact that she was assigned to a sector with lots of awakened beings.
Having no ability beyond what her number indicated, she survived in the front lines due to her style of fighting.
Besides the blade, she used the guard, hilt, and every other part of the claymore to compensate for her lack of speed.
From the point of view of the other warriors, this was a very unsightly,
desperate strategy, but in Roxanne's eyes, that unrefinedness seemed to sparkle instead.
From then on, Roxanne mimicked Uranus's fighting style.
Starting with that, the two became closer.
This was partly due to the fact that their districts were near to each other, but mostly
it was that their style of fighting - some called it the blades of evil - kept other warriors away, which in turn strengthened the bond between the two.
Then one day, Roxanne suddenly
realized that her strength had surpassed that of Uranus.
the sight of Uranus' fighting
seemed filthy, desperate, and very ugly.
It was shortly after this that Uranus died,
just after Roxanne's number had been raised to 24.
Roxanne had also participated in that awakened hunt, but
the other team members (lit.: the other warriors that were there) reported that Uranus's death did not seem to affect Roxanne in the least (lit.: did not cause the color of her face to change at all).
Come along, fellas!
That number 9's name was Neideen.
Roxanne admired the way she fought without her right eye, which she had lost as a child.
Having poor depth perception due to her missing eye, Neideen's fighting style relied mainly on youki perception.
Her skills were so sharply honed that she could fight just the same even if her remaining left eye were closed.
During that battle, Roxanne
lost her right eye.
Even Neideen, who seemed suspicious at first,
took a liking
同じように妖気を読む闘い方を研磨するロクサーヌに好意を持ったto Roxanne who was fighting beside her and polishing a fighting style similarly based on reading youki.
Before long, the two of them developed a partnership which even the organization accepted,
and participated in many awakened hunts together.
around the time when Roxanne's abilities started to get close to hers.
The opponent was a single low-ranking awakened being.
The comrades who fought together with her were perplexed that a number 9 would lose her life in that battle.
But what surprised them more than anything was
the fact that Roxanne's eye returned to normal the instant Neideen died.
By the time she was given the rank of number 11,
the other warriors considered her very creepy.
The number 5, Elizabeth, who had been the leader of that first awakened hunt,
died shortly after Roxanne had stolen all of her beautiful sword technique.
Around the time when Roxanne held the position of that number 5,
the position of the number 1 was absolute.
That person's name was Cassandra.
She wielded the sword in her left hand, which is rare among warriors, and not even the number 2 at the time could hold a candle to her.
Even when it came to awakened hunts, Cassandra would not team up with anyone.
She would head out alone to the awakened hunt,
and regardless of the opponent, she'd return without a scratch.
The awakened being's corpse that she left behind
was always hacked completely to pieces, but how she fought remained a riddle.
Roxanne was completely captivated by Cassandra.
She had never before felt such intense affection and craving.
Roxanne first met Cassandra in the mountains in the area of Lautrec.
Whether it was by coincidence or design (lit.: necessity), Roxanne did not hesitate to call out to Cassandra.
Cassandra, who was being idolized and rarely ever spoken to by the other warriors
averted her eyes and had blood rushing to her cheeks at Roxanne's words, saying that she admired her and had changed her sword hand.
Inveigling Cassandra was a simple task for Roxanne.
Days of training when they would share the same pillow and occasionally cross swords...
But at those times, Cassandra
did not even match up to number 5 Elizabeth's sword technique.
Moreover, no matter how close they got,
she absolutely wouldn't
go to an awakened hunt together.
This is something Roxanne said
after Cassandra's death, but
even when she was still number 35, Roxanne was endowed with a wonderful ability to synchronize her youki,
and that is connected to her effective acquisition of other people's every technique, but...
by this time, Roxanne had even developed a special technique
that allowed her to completely hide her youki from a particular target.
I will be able to see...
how Cassandra fights when she's serious...
(Lit.: Cassandra's true fighting form)
Ah, welcome back!
It's so cool that you went on an awakened hunt all by yourself again today.
Why are you here?
Oh dear, Cassandra!
Your cheek is a little dirty.
I'm just kidding.
No need to do that.
You washed your face properly in the nearby river as soon as the battle was over, didn't you?
There's something that's been bothering me for a long time.
Even though you're number 1,
You don't have any special nickname at all.
Even I have this hard to understand name,
"Roxanne of Love and Hate",
so I think it's strange that you as the number one don't have one.
since no one has seen you fight for real, they can only come up with names based on their image of you.
They all seem close,
yet they're all lacking
A phrase that suits you
is hard to find, isn't it?
Like I said,
I don't want one.
Even without anything like that...
Oh, I know!
How about this one?
It sounds like a perfect match to me!
Oh, come on!
How much longer do you plan to keep fighting like that?
Someone like you
only matches up to an average number 5
without that technique.
What was that just now...?
I can't take anymore...
What is she saying?
So in the end,
you're gonna use it after all...
In that case, you should have done so from the start without worrying about how it looks,
and you wouldn't have gotten hurt unnecessarily.
It's a bluff.
Let's finish her off!
Turning her head into a pendulum,
to the right...
to the left...
Then, using centrifugal force, her posture goes lower
and even lower...
Whether it's a warrior or an awakened being,
there are not many that can accurately pierce an object that suddenly closes in as if it were sliding right under your feet.
Although it seems as if you disliked it up to the very end,
this technique that seems as if you're eating dirt and lusting for sand...
Don't you think the name I gave you was a perfect match,
"Cassandra the Dust Eater"?
Is there still a ray of hope for the new generation warriors who fell into such a predicament!?
