*The Story So Far*

おれの名前は蒼月潮。中学生。ある事情から、おなじみの“とら”と、
母ちゃんのコトを知る旅をしているってわけ。
My name is Aotsuki Ushio and I’m a middle school student. Currently, I’m on a
journey with my constant companion Tora to learn about my mother.

だけど、ゆく先々で出現する妖怪に関わるため、なかなか目ざす北海道へ
たどり着くことができない。
But everywhere we go, youkai keep appearing and bothering us, and we can’t
get any closer to our goal, Hokkaidou.

おまけに、今度は、遠野の妖怪たちから追われるハメに。
What’s more, there’s the problem of the Toono youkai who are after me now.

わけもわからずやりあうはイヤだが、あまりのスゴさにやむなく応戦。
I don’t like fighting without knowing the reason but I’m reluctantly defending myself.

そして、妖怪の「長」にあったオレは、そこで「白面の者」の正体と、
それを護る母の話をきかされる。
And then I met Osa, the leader of the youkai, and learned the full story of Hakumen no Mono and
heard that my mother is the one protecting it.

でも、なぜ母ちゃんは、妖怪たちの憎しみをかってまで、そいつを護るって
いるのか。。。知りたい！！
But why is my mother protecting the one that the youkai have a grudge against!?
I want to know why!

とら： へへっ、一鬼よぉ、こいつを殺すにゃまず、
わしとやらなきゃなあ。
Tora: He heh. Hitotsuki, you’re going to have to beat me
before you can kill this guy.

一鬼： きさまあ　長飛丸どけい！　そいつを殺さねば
われらの恨みは晴れん。
Hitotsuki: Damn you, Nagatobimaru, move!
If we can’t kill him, our hatred will never be dispelled.


とら： 勘違いしてるようだな、一鬼。。。
わしはこいつを助けるためじゃなく、ただおめえとやって、
みてえのよ。
Tora: I think you’re mistaken, Hitotsuki…
I’m not doing this to save him. I just want to try my hand at whipping you.


とら： てえコトだ、うしお。。。おめえはすっこんでな！
Tora: That said… Ushio, get back!

潮： いらねーコトを。。。
Ushio: I don’t need you to-


とら： いっとくがおめーを守るからじゃねぞ、
わしがあいつとやりてえからだ。
Tora: I just said I’m not protecting you!
I want to fight him!

潮： わーったよ。
Ushio: I know.


とら： ホントだぞ。
Tora: I mean it!

潮： わかったって！
Ushio: I said I know!

長： 一鬼。。。
おぬしの気持ちもわかる。。。ではこうしよう。
Osa: Hitotsuki…
I understand your feelings but let us do it this way.


長： 長飛丸とぬしが一対一で闘えい！
Osa: You and Nagatobimaru will battle one-on-one.

長： おぬしが勝てば、好きなようにするがよい！
しかし負ければ。。。
Osa: If you win, you may do as you please.
But if you lose…


長： われのいう通り、蒼月潮に以後一切、手だし無用のこと！
Osa: You will do as I say and henceforth do nothing to interfere with Aotsuki Ushio!


長： 皆の衆、それでよいか！？
Osa: Everyone, is that satisfactory?


潮： おい！オレは景品じゃね。。。
Ushio: Oi! I’m not some prize…

とら： おう　いいぜっ！
Tora: Right! Sounds good!


一鬼： 異存なし！この一鬼、五００年も眠っていたなまくらに。。。
Hitotsuki: I have no objections. The great Hitotsuki hasn’t lost his edge after 500 years of sleep…

Tora: Aren’t you going to hit me?


潮： とら、気ぃつけろっ。
Ushio: Tora, watch out!


とら： う！？
Tora: Uh!?

一鬼： 二００年かけて、追いつめた憎き「白面の者」に、

Hitotsuki: And never being able to deliver the finishing blow has vexed us!

鎌鼬： とら殿っ。
Kamaitachi: Tora-dono!


とら： ぐう。
Tora: Guuh.


一鬼： 死ねえええい！！
Hitotsuki: DIE!!

Hitotsuki: Nagatobimaru, now you know our pain for yourself!


潮： とら、今いくっ。
Ushio: Tora, I’m coming!

長： まてい！
Osa: STOP!


長： 各々がた、これは一対一の勝負ぞ！手はだすでない。
それに。。。みよ！
Osa: Everyone, this is a one-on-one challenge! Do not interfere!

Hitotsuki: Nuu!?


とら： 気にいらん！
Tora: This isn’t like you.

とら： 気にいらんなあ、一鬼。
Tora: This isn’t like you at all, Hitotsuki!


とら： てめえらの力が弱―のを、人間の女ごときのせいにして！
Tora: Your powers are weak, laying blame on the likes of a human woman!

とら： しかも直接やらねえで、そのムスコにあたる根性がよぉ！！
Tora: And you don’t even have the guts to attack her directly! You go after her son!!

とら： もう終わりかよ、一鬼！？
Tora: Finished already, Hitotsuki?

一鬼： くそおあああ！
Hitotsuki: DAMN YOU!

とら： なん度いってもわからんのだな、一鬼。。。
わしを長飛丸と呼ぶんじゃねえ。。。
Tora: Now matter how many times I say it, you just don’t get it, Hitotsuki.
Don’t call me Nagatobimaru…

Osa: The winner of this challenge is Tora.


長： 長であるわれの決定通りとする！
Osa: It is as I, Osa, have determined!


長： 以降、遠野の全妖は蒼月潮を追い、
殺そうとすることをやめるのだ！
Osa: Hereafter, all the youkai of Toono will cease to pursue
and try to kill Aotsuki Ushio!

Ushio: Well, we’re heading out.


長： われらはもう襲わぬが、ほかの地の妖は今もなお、
おぬしの母親に恨みをもつ。。。
気をつけい。
Osa: While we will no longer fight you,
the bakemono of other lands still bear your mother ill will.
Be careful.

潮： 長のじいちゃん、あんがと。
Ushio: Thanks, Osa-jiichan.


かがり： 潮様危ない時はわたしたちを思いだしてください。。。
Kagari: If you’re ever in danger, please remember us.

オマモリ： ほっかいどうからかえったら、さやにもあいにきてやってくれ。
Omamori: Please come and visit Saya on your way back from Hokkaidou.


潮： オマモリさん。。。雷信。。。かがり。。。
オレ。。。オレさぁ。。。
Ushio: Omamori-san. Raishin. Kagari. I…well, I…

Ushio: I’m glad I met all of you.


潮： じゃなっ。
Ushio: See you!


妖怪： けっ、オレたちをあんなに殺しやがって。。。
許すまいぞ。。。
Youkai: Keh! He killed us just like that… We will not forgive this…

妖怪： そうだ！許さんぞ。
Youkai: Yes! We will not forgive this.

妖怪： だがヤツめ、人間のくせになかなかやりおってな。
Youkai: Then again, for a human, he fought pretty well.

妖怪： そうだな。
Youkai: That’s true.

妖怪： しばらくは許しておってもよいか。。。
Youkai: Perhaps we’ll forgive him in time…

妖怪： そうだな。
Youkai: Perhaps.


長： 皆のもの。くやしかろうが今は許してやれ。
Osa: Everyone. Forget now that which vexes you.


長： 潮よ、この家はマヨヒガというてな。。。
ここにきた者は、なにかひとつもって帰ってもよいことになっておるのよ。
どれをとっても、富をもたらしてくれるものぞ。
Osa: Ushio, this house is called Mayohiga*. People who come here
take something away with them and good things happen to them.
Whatever humans take, fortune comes conveniently to them.

*Mayohiga is a house people come to when they get lost and stands on the border between our world and the spirit world

潮： 。。。実はさ。。。もう。。。いっこもらっちまったんだ。。。
うまそうだったからさ。。。
Ushio: …well, actually…I’d like…I’d like another one. They look really good…


潮： おにぎり。
Ushio: These onigiri do.


潮： よかったらこの残りもくれるかい？
Ushio: If it’s okay, I’ll take these leftovers.


長： それだけでよいのか？
おぬしに役だちそうな武器もあるのだぞ。。。
金も。。。！
Osa: Is that all? There are some weapons that would be useful to you. And money.

潮： これだけでいいよ。。。それにさ。。。
Ushio: This is fine. Besides…

かがり： あ　うでとくすりがぬれません
Kagari: Ah Don’t get your arms in the medicine

とら： ひゃはは　いてえ　くすぐったい　いてえ　ははは
Tora: Hyahaha It hurts! It tickles! It hurts! Ha ha ha aah!


潮： ほしいもんはもってるしよ！
Ushio: I’ve got everything I want.


とら： さ、わしもいくか。
Tora: Well, I’m going too.


一鬼： ま。。。まて　長飛丸。。。なぜオレを殺さなかった。。。
Hitotsuki: W-wait, Nagatobimaru… Why did you not kill me?

一鬼： 昔のおまえなら突然、喜々として殺してだろう？
Hitotsuki: You would have gleefully killed me as you were before.


とら： ふん！　喜々としてか。。。違いねぇ。
Tora: Fuhn! Gleefully, huh? You’re not wrong.


とら： 昔のわしならそうしたろうな。
でもよ、五００年ぶりに外にでてよ、少しゃわしも変わったのよ。。。
Tora: As I was before, I would have.
But coming outside after 500 years, I’ve changed a bit.

とら： いいか。。。
Tora: And listen…

かがり： ご無事で。。。
Kagari: Stay safe…


一鬼： くそお。。。「とら」だとお。。。？
Hitotsuki: Damn… “Tora”, huh…

長： 一鬼よ、おまえも今にわかる。
Osa: Hitotsuki, now you too understand….


長： あの者たちの使命の重さが。。。
