Ushio: Fuhn. So, you’re skipping school.

片山： そうよ、東京をでて、北海道を一周してくるのさ、あのクルマで。。。
Katayama: Right, we’re taking a week to make it from Toukyou to Hokkaidou and back.


片山： 気ままな旅っちゅーヤツよ。
Katayama: We’re taking this trip just for ourselves.


潮： ズル休みだー、悪ぃんだ～。
Ushio: Skipping school is a no-no~

二人： バカッ！
Boys: No way!


片山： 旅先でしりあういろんな女のコとよろしく楽しくやるコトに
比べたら「ガッコウ」なんてポイよ、ポイ！！
Katayama: Compared to the various girls that we’ll meet and have fun with
when we get to our destination, school is garbage! You hear, garbage!

香上： そうだ、北海道にいって女をナンパしまくるのだぁ！
Kagami: That’s right! We’ll go to Hokkaidou and flirt with girls!


片山： でもそれにしちゃ、成功しねーなあ、オレたち。。。
Katayama: But we probably won’t succeed…


香上： それをいうな片山っ。
ホッカイドーだ、ホッカイドーにいきゃなんとかなる！
Kagami: Don’t say that, Katayama!
It’ll turn out fine as long as we get to Hokkaidou! Hokkaidou, man!

潮： もしかしたらどーしよーもねーんじゃねえか、このヒトたち。。。
Ushio: I don’t think these guys will succeed no matter what they do.


史代： 失礼いたします。
Fumiyo: Excuse me.


史代： 恐れいりますが、宿帳お願いしますね。
Fumiyo: Excuse me but could you sign the guest register?


片山： そうなんだよ、あしかがたかうじがダイナミックレンジで０．０９
以下の時フライングVを弾く岩手が亜光速を突破して、
美しい銀河の彼方に消えてゆくのさ。
Katayama: Exactly! Ashikaga Takauji performed a flying V
with a dynamic range of less than .09 in Iwate
but breached sublight speeds and disappeared into the far reaches
of the beautiful Milky Way.

片山： わたしはイカンと思うのだよ
Katayama: I don’t think this’ll work

香上： わたしもイカンと思ふ
Kagami: Me neither

香上： ふむふむ、ターボの回転数がオーバーレブした時に
インタークーラーを直角に曲げるとドリフトしてハドルが
もげるととても困る。
Kagami: Uh-huh, uh-huh. When you over-rev the turbo rotation
and you turn the intercooler perpendicular and then drift,
the steering wheel comes off and you’re in trouble.

Fumiyo: You students are speaking about very difficult things.

香上： いやあ、ボクたち、文学部の学生なんで、学問のコトになると
つい力が入って。。。
Kagami: No, we’re literature majors so we’re forced to study hard…


潮： ちぇっ、女ナンパするために、学校サボってるくせに。。。
Ushio: Che. Skipping school just to flirt with girls…

とら： おめーもヒトのコトいえんけどな
Tora: You can’t say anything. You’re skipping too.

香上： ここにも卒論の研究にきたんです。
Kagami: We came here to do research for our bachelor’s theses.


潮： つ～。
Ushio: Ow~

とら： アホ。。。
Tora: Moron…


片山： おねえさん、ここで働いてるの？
Katayama: Oneesan, do you work here?

史代： おねえさんだなんてやだわ。これでもこのおかみなんですよ。
Fumiyo: Oh, I’m not an oneesan. I’m the okami* of this lodge.

*female head of a restaurant, inn, etc.

香上： へー、若く見えるなーっ！
Kagami: Hee, you look so young!

片山： 年上の女。。。
Katayama: An older woman…

史代： ２８なんですよ、みえません？
Fumiyo: I don’t look 28 to you?


片山： じゃ、ご主人はここの宿の。。。？
Katayama: So, does your husband work here?


史代： それが私がこの宿の主人なのよ。
Fumiyo: I’m also the head of the household.


史代： 主人は詩織―さっきおりましたあの子が
四つの時亡くなりました。
Fumiyo: When Shiori, that little girl who was here before,
was four years old, my husband passed away.


片山： あ。。。こりゃ。。。
Katayama: Oh…uh, I’m sorry…

史代： いいんです、娘だけで手いっぱいだから。
Fumiyo: It’s all right. I’ve got my hands full with just my daughter.

Kagami: Oh! She’s such a cute little child.

史代： でもねえ、学校にいきたがらないコでね、友達もできないみたいなの。。。
やっぱりこんな仕事してるからかしら。
Fumiyo: Yes, but she doesn’t want to go to school and she isn’t making friends…
That’s why I have this kind of job.


史代： わたしが小さい頃、そうだったから、
あの子にはそんなコトになってもらいたくなかたのにね。
Fumiyo: When I was little, I was like that too,
but I don’t want her to take after me in that way.


声： おかみさーん。
Voice: Okami-san.

史代： あら、もうこんな時間？
Fumiyo: Oh my, is it that time already?


史代： ごゆっくり。。。
そちらの坊ちゃん、よかったら詩織と遊んでやってね。
Fumiyo: Please relax and enjoy yourselves.
If it’s all right, the little boy can play with Shiori.


潮： 坊ちゃん。。。
Ushio: Little boy?


片山： ２８だってよ、２８！すげー美人！しかも後家さん！！
Katayama: She’s 28! 28! She’s such a babe! And a widow!

香上： おお！ラッキーなトコへ泊まったもんだ、オレがまず口説くぞ！！
Kagami: Oh! It’s lucky we stopped here! I’m gonna put the moves on her first!

潮： このヒトたちゃー。
Ushio: You guys~


片山： 。。。おい！
Katayama: …oi!

香上： おまえ、オレたちの身上ばっかりきいて、おまえのワケも話せよ。
Kagami: You listened to our story, now tell us yours!


片山： なんで中ボーのクセにガッコウ休んで旅してんだよ！？
Katayama: Why are you taking off from school to go off on this trip?!

香上： それにねんだよ、アレ、おかしな槍もちあるきやがって！？
Kagami: And what’s with that thing? That weird spear you walk around with!?

片山： あの金はどっから盗んできやがった！？
Katayama: And you stole all that money from somewhere, didn’t you!?

Boys: C’mon, c’mon! Spill it, jackass!!

潮： そ。。。そうたてつづけにきかれても。
Ushio: I’d rather keep listening to


潮： あのおばさん、きれえだったなあ。
Ushio: How pretty that obasan was!


片山： そうだった。きれいだったよなー。
やあらかそうなからだ。。。
Katayama: She is. She’s so pretty.
Her body looks so soft…

香上： まずオレは声かけるだろ、そしたらあの人はにっこり笑って。。。
Kagami: First I’ll say something and then she’ll laugh and smile….


潮： この兄ちゃんたちにゃこの手に限るな。
Ushio: I’ve had my fill of these guys.


人： 民さん、おふとんこっちな！
People: Tami-san, bring the futon over here.

人： はい。
Person: Okay.

人： 元さん、明日の仕込みは淳一さんといってね。
Person: Gen-san, you’re preparing with Junichi-san tomorrow.

人： おかみさーん、お酒届きましてーっ！
Person: Okami-san, the sake’s here!

史代： はーい、今いきまーす。
Fumiyo: Right, I’m going right now.


史代： 今日もごくろうさま、城池のおじさん。
Fumiyo: Thank you very much, Shiroike-ojisan.

城池： おう史代さん、ビール４ケース、ジュースワンケースね。
Shiroike: Of course, Fumiyo-san. 4 cases of beer and 1 case of juice.


城池： しかしねえ、史代さんも気ィつけなよ。
Shiroike: Now then, you be careful now, Fumiyo-san.

史代： え？
Fumiyo: Oh?

城池： ほらしっとるだろ？例の、女ばっかり狙う連続殺人鬼さ。
Shiroike: Really, you don’t know? There’s that serial killer that targets women
they’ve been talking about.


城池： ついせんだって、うちの親戚のしりあいの子が
その殺人犯に殺されたんだってよ。。。
Some time ago, the child of an acquaintance of one of my relatives
was killed by that murderer.


城池： なんでも、学校から帰る途中でやられたらしいんだ。
Shiroike: It happened while she was on her way home from school.

城池： 町中、大騒ぎになって。。。
Shiroike: It caused a big stir all through the town…


城池： 役場のヤツや、青年団の連中がようやくみつけた時にゃ、
ひでえありさまだったらしいよ。
Shiroike: When the town hall guys and the people from the young person’s association
finally found her, she was in a sorry state.


城池： まるごとひきはがされた　その子の皮が、
血だまりの中におちてたんだってよ。。。
Shiroike: The child’s skin had been torn off as a whole
and had been dropped in a pool of blood.

城池： ―クツもはいたまま。。。
Shiroike: It still had shoes on…

Fumiyo: Ojisan…please!

城池： おっとごめんごめん。オレはよ、あんたも詩織ちゃんも
気をつけろっていいたかったんだ。
Shiroike: Oops, sorry, sorry. I just wanted to tell you and Shiori-chan to be careful.


城池： なんでも秋田の方からだんだんこっち。。。
青森の方へ近づいてるって話だからよ。
Shiroike: He seems to be coming this way from Akita.
They say he’s coming closer to Aomori.

史代： 。。。誰が一体そんなコトを。。。怖いわねえ。
Fumiyo: Who wouldn’t be afraid to hear that?

城池： 逃げる犯人をみたっつーヤツがさ。。。
Shiroike: There was a man who saw the culprit escape.

男： オレはみたんだ、本当だぜ。
Man: I saw it. It’s the truth.

男： 信じてくれよっ！
Man: Please believe me!


男： 最初は犬かなんかだと思ったんだ。
Man: At first, I thought it was a dog or something.

男： そしたらよ、そいつが起きて。。。
Man: But then it stood up…


男： 高く飛んだんだ！
Man: And jumped high in the air!

男： ありゃまちげえねえ、「なまはげ」だったよ！
Man: There’s no mistaking it! It was Namahage!

男： あの祭りのよ。。。
確かに「なまはげ」だった。
Man: From that festival…
It was definitely Namahage.


男： 首になんか光るもんぶちさげてた。。。
Man: There was something shiny hanging around its neck…

男： 鈴。。。だったかな？
Man: Maybe a little bell?


史代： 首に。。。鈴。。。？
Fumiyo: A bell…on its neck?


城池： 史代さん、なにか心当たりでもあるんか？
Shiroike: Fumiyo-san, do you know something about it?

城池： 確か史代さんの郷里、秋田だったよおな、
男鹿の方か？
Shiroike: You’re hometown is in Akita, isn’t it? In Oga?

史代： いやだわ、おじさんそんなコトあるわけないでしょ。
Fumiyo: Oh no, Ojisan. That doesn’t mean anything.


城池： はは、確かにな、でも本当に気ぃつけなよ。じゃな。。。
Shiroike: Ha ha, of course not. But really, be careful. Bye!

史代： ありがとう、おやすみなさい。
Fumiyo: Thank you. Good-night.


史代： 。。。首に小さな鈴。。。？
Fumiyo: …a little bell around its neck…?

史代： まさかね、そんなわけないわ。。。
Fumiyo: Nonsense. That doesn’t mean anything.

Ushio: Oh,

潮： へー、うまいもんだ！
Ushio: Wow, you’re good!


潮： 絵、好きなのか？
Ushio: Do you like drawing?


潮： オレも絵描くの好きなんだぜー、
オレもこういうのよくやってたよ。
Ushio: I like drawing pictures. I draw pictures like this a lot too.

史代： あの子は学校に行きたがらないし、
Fumiyo: She doesn’t want to go to school…

史代： 友達も。。。
Fumiyo: No friends…

SFX:　かきかき
SFX: draw draw

潮： おっこれいい！これなんだ？
Ushio: Oh, this one is great! What’s this one?


潮： ま、いいか、部屋にいてもあの兄ちゃんたちの
質問ぜめだし。。。
Ushio: Oh well. If I go back to the room, I’ll just have to face
a barrage of questions from those guys.

潮： それいいな！　なによ、それ？　オニか？
Ushio: That’s great! What is that, an oni*?

潮： っても返事しねえーだろうけど。。。
なかなかうまいよなあ、このオバケ。
Ushio: You probably won’t respond
but this obake is really pretty good.

詩織： なまはげ。
Shiori: Namahage.


潮： え？
Ushio: Huh?

詩織： なまはげ。。。
Shiori: It’s Namahage…


潮： へーえ、「なまはげ」ってえのか、これ。。。
Ushio: Wow, so this is Namahage…

とら： うしお、うしおっ！
Tora: Ushio! Ushio!


潮： なんだ。。。とら！
Ushio: What’s wrong, Tora?

Tora: Nothing. It’s just, that thing is amazing!


とら： こんなにでっかくてよー、ガラスのかたまりなのよ！キラキラ！！
Tora: It’s such a huge great big lump of glass! And it’s all shiny!

潮： おめーまだ文明に慣れとらんなー
Ushio: You still aren’t used to civilization.


とら： 中に入ってみてーなあ、木造りの屋敷なら入れんだけどなあ。
なあ、入ってみようずっ！
Tora: Let’s go see the inside! I’ve only ever been in wooden mansions.
Okay, let’s go look inside!

潮： オレは早く、北海道で母ちゃんの秘密をしりたいの！
Ushio: I want to hurry up and get to Hokkaidou to learn my mother’s secret!


潮： そのためにゃ、ここ青森からフェリーに乗って、
早く函館についてだな。。。コラ、きけよっ。
Ushio: That’s why we’re taking the ferry from here to get to Hakodate…
Hey, listen to me!


とら： いや、五００年前までは米もできなくて苦労してやがった
人間どもが、あんなモノ造るたあねえ！
Tora: 500 years ago, humans had so much trouble just growing rice
and now you build stuff like this!


詩織： あ。。。
Shiori: Ah…


詩織： なまはげ。。。
Shiori: Namahage.


潮： この子、おめえのコトみえるのか。。。
Ushio: Can this girl see you?

とら： ちっ、だからガキはやなんだ。
Tora: Ch. It’s because she’s a kid.

(箱： とらはときたま子供にはみえるコトもある。
(Box: Occasionally, some children can see Tora)

Ushio: This kid is really interested in Namahage…

とら： なま。。。なんだって！？
Tora: Nama-what now?


とら： やい、ガキ、わしはなー、そんな、なま。。。なんとかなんてぇ
もんじゃねえぞ！食ってやる！！
Tora: Hey, kid, I’m not this Nama-whatsit! I’ll eat you!

潮： やめろよっ、とら、小さい子に！！
Tora: Cut it out, Tora! She’s just a little kid!


詩織： なまはげ。。。
Shiori: Namahage.


史代： 詩織。。。
Fumiyo: Shiori…


史代： まあこんなトコにいたの？
Fumiyo: Oh, here you are.

史代： だめでしょ、食らい所で遊んでたらおっかない人がくるよ！
Fumiyo: You shouldn’t be out here. If you play in dark places,
scary people will come.


史代： あら、お兄ちゃんに遊んでもらってたの。。。よかったわねえ。
Fumiyo: Oh, it’s nice you’re playing with Oniichan.

詩織： ママ。。。なまはげ。
Shiori: Mama, it’s Namahage!


とら： わしはなまはげじゃねえ
Tora: I’m not Namahage!

(箱： とらはフツーの人にはみえない。)
(Box: Tora cannot be seen by normal people.)

史代： そうね、こんなに描いたのね。。。
Fumiyo: Yes, I see you drew him.


史代： さ。。。もう寝る時間よ。。。
Fumiyo: Well, it’s time for bed.


詩織： なまはげ。。。
Shiori: Namahage.

とら： へん！
Tora: Hmph!


潮： 詩織ちゃんといったっけ。なまはげっていってたけどなんだろ？
Ushio: Shiori-chan mentioned him but who is Namahage?


史代： 秋田の男鹿半島に伝わってる風習なのよ。
Fumiyo: It’s a custom from Akita on the Oga Peninsula.

潮： へえ。
Ushio: Really?


史代： 大みそかの夜、男鹿の家々を、鬼の面と、
みのをまとった未婚男性扮するなまはげが、
荒々しい声をたてて訪問します。
そして「泣く子はいねえがあ」と「良くね子はいねがあ」と
片手の包丁で子供や新婚の妻をおどしてまわるのです。
Fumiyo: On New Year’s Eve, unmarried men dress up as Namahage,
wearing a demon mask and a straw raincoat, and go house to house in Oga
They call in a rough voice, “Are there any crying children here?” and
“Are there any bad children here?” and go around with a knife in one hand
scaring new wives and children.


史代： わたしも主人も古里は男鹿でした。まだ主人が生きていた頃、
詩織があんまりなまはげを怖がって泣くので。。。
Fumiyo: My husband and I lived in an old village in Oga. When my husband was still alive,
Shiori was very frightened of Namahage and would always cry.

主人： ほーら詩織、
Husband: Look, Shiori.

主人： なまはげは怖くないぞー。
Husband: Namahage isn’t scary.

主人： 父ちゃんがなまはげ、描いてやるからなあ、
Husband: I’ll draw Namahage for you.


主人： どうだ、詩織。。。こうしてみると、
あれもなかなかわいいだろ？
Husband: How’s that, Shiori? If you look at him this way,
he’s pretty cute, isn’t he?


史代： きっと詩織は、その時のことをおぼえてるんでしょうね。。。
Fumiyo: I’m sure Shiori remembers that time.


史代： 学校で友達とも遊ばないあの子が、あの絵になると、
夢中で描いてますもの。。。
Fumiyo: She doesn’t play with friends at school. She just sits in a daze, drawing pictures.

潮： ふーん。
Ushio: Hm.


史代： 心配だわ、あの子は小さい頃のわたしと同じ。。。
一人で。。。さみしい。。。
Fumiyo: I’m worried. She’s like me when I was a child. Alone… Lonely…


史代： ―友達だね、これあげる。
Fumiyo: We’re friend so I’ll give you this.


史代： うふふ、ごめんなさい。へんなこと話して。。。
Fumiyo: Oh, I’m sorry for talking about such strange things…

潮： そんなことないよ。
Ushio: It’s not strange.


潮： ん！？
Ushio: Huh?

潮： へんなトコに、矢が刺さってんだねえ、おばさん。
Ushio: That’s a weird place to stick an arrow, Obasan.


史代： あら、誰があんな所に。。。しらないわ。
Fumiyo: Oh, I don’t know who put that there…


潮： 赤い矢。。。？
Ushio: A red arrow?

潮： なんかきいたコトあるな。。。なんだっけ？
Ushio: I’ve heard something about that…What was it?


潮： そう、あれは。。。
Ushio: Right, it was…


テレビ： あの犯人は被害者宅の玄関に、
あらかじめ赤い羽の矢を刺しておくなど。。。
TV: The culprit places an arrow with red feathers outside the genkan
of the victim’s home beforehand…


潮： あれは連続殺人の前ぶれの！
Ushio: That’s a notice from the serial killer!


詩織： きゃっ！！
Shiori: Kyah!!


潮： もしか！
Ushio: Maybe-


史代： あれは詩織の！
Fumiyo: That was Shiori!

潮： もしかして！
Ushio: It could be-

香上： うしおよぉ。
Kagami: It’s Ushio.


潮： 槍が鳴ってる！

Ushio: It’s a youkai!


潮： 槍よ、こいっ！
