Ayumi: It’s just like my grandfather said…
Ushio: What do you mean?
Ayumi: This is all really strange.
Ayumi: Recently, my dead grandfather has come to me in my dreams.

Ayumi: My grandmother said he died when the ship he was on
sunk in a typhoon decades ago.
Ayumi: Every year, Grandma and Mom bow their heads and apologize
to the bereaved families of those who died in the accident.

Grandpa: Get on the ship
with the boy who holds the spear
Ayumi: And here I am.
Page 124
Ayumi: This is really annoying talk. My grandfather gave nothing but grief
to my grandmother and mother and now he’s doing it to his granddaughter!
Ayumi: But I didn’t care what he wanted. I didn’t care at all.
I was just coming back from my band this way as usual, and then I see you…
Ushio: Huh.
Ayumi: But I’ve decided. You came and I got on this ship like my grandfather said.
Because there must be something to this. So if my grandfather comes,
we’re going to do whatever bothersome thing he tells us.
Ushio: But I have nothing to do with this.
Old Man: Excuse me!

Was the ship that sank one of five?
Ayumi: What are you talking about?
Old man: Which ship was your grandfather the captain of?
Old Man: Please, answer me! It’s very important. I was…
Page 125
Old Man: I was also on the ship that sank.
Old Man: It was a beautiful day, just like this one.
Crewman: Hmm, are you going home over this break?
Crewman: Or are you still going to be the captain’s drinking buddy?
。。船長。。。
Crewman: C-Captain…
Captain: Hm, what is it?
Crewman: On our starboard side, out front, there’s an localized mass of mist!
Captain: What?
Page 126
Crewman: It’s coming at us at high speed!
Old Man: Excuse my asking again and again but… but I really must know. Please…
Ayumi: Y-yeah. Fine, whatever…
Ayumi: My grandfather’s name was Yuusuke. Fushido Yuusuke.
Old Man: Fushido…
Old Man: Then that means that you’re…
Old Man: You’re Captain Fushido’s grandchild…
Ayumi: Captain Fushido? So, Ojisan, you were on my grandfather’s ship!
Page 127
Old Man: Yes, I was the Second Comm. Officer then,
just a young crewman serving under Captain Fushido…
Old Man: The name of that ship was…
Captain: First Officer!
First Officer: There’s nothing on radar!

First Officer: We’re headed into it!
Captain: Nuu!
Man: Uwah! It’s gone all white all of a sudden!
Man: What’s with this fog? There wasn’t a cloud in the sky a minute ago!
Page 128
Ayumi: Kya! What’s going on!
Ushio: It’s gone white outside the window.
Ushio: Neechan, let’s check it out!
Ayumi: Y-yeah.
Ushio: Niichan, what’s with this mist?
Katayama: How should I know?
Kagami: There’s something in it!
Old Man: Captain…
Old Man: Is this what you were talking about?
Captain: Samuto-kun…
Captain: Get on the boat with the boy with the spear…
Captain: On the boat…
Samuto: I’m going now…
Samuto: To the ship we were both on…
Samuto: The Yuusetsu-maru*!
*maru is a suffix for ship names, like S.S. in English
Page 129
Crewman: Captain, the engines have stopped!
Captain: The mystery ship looks to be coming up beside us.
Ushio: A bridge from that ship!
Ayumi: Wait!
Ayumi: Wait a minute, Ojisan!

Man: Hey, you! Don’t just run onto that ship! Come back!
Man: Let’s go bring that old man and that girl back.
Ushio: There’s a barrier normal humans can’t enter!
There’s something going on here!
Ushio: Okay!

Ayumi: This is a really old ship. What’s here?
Grandpa, if you’re coming out then come out.
Samuto: Nothing’s changed. The Yuusetsu-maru is just like it was then.

Samuto: This is the Yuusetsu-maru!
Samuto: We are currently running with our anchor* due to the typhoon.
Samuto: The engine room is being flooded through the exhaust vents!
Samuto: Our boat was one of five ships hit
making their way back to port when their engines stopped.
Samuto: It looks like our antenna is out.
Samuto: There’s intense flooding from the stern apertures!

Samuto: The last thing I saw…
Samuto: It was unmistakably the captain.
Samuto: He was sounding the emergency alarm and shouting
as the great prow of the Yuusetsu-maru went under.

Samuto: We were found quickly and rescued somehow.

Samuto: If I’d gotten to the telegraph and sent the S.O.S…
Wouldn’t more people have been saved?
Samuto: Or perhaps the captain wouldn’t have had to die.
Ayumi: Ugh, don’t be stupid! The ship would’ve gone down whether you sent it or not.
You believed in the captain and brought the passengers aboard.
Samuto: It must be in your blood…
Samuto: When Captain Fushido got mad,
his nose used to wrinkle just like that.
Ayumi: Jeez! I just can’t talk to you, Ojisan!
Samuto: I’m sorry but please listen to me. The captain came to me in a dream.
Samuto: He came to me too. The captain has been appearing for some time…
Captain: Samuto-kun…
Go on the boat…
With the boy with the spear.
Captain: Get on the boat!
Samuto: I thought that the captain was telling me to take responsibility…
Samuto: When I saw the boy, I thought my time had finally come.
Ayumi: Huh, you’re so irritating!
Page 137
Ushio: What’s with this ship!?
Ushio: My long hair fell out but the Spear is still sounding, so I’m not letting my guard down.
Tora: Aaah, you know nothing.
Ushio: Tora!
Tora: It’s picking up the souls of the humans who died when this boat sank!
Tora: You didn’t have to get on this annoying boat.
Ushio: So, there’s no youkai?
Tora: Oh, there’s one here.
Tora: This many souls trapped in one place in the form of a ship?
That’s a bakemono’s doing.
Tora: It’s Mikonjiki.
Tora: He captures unlucky souls and enjoys sucking on them.
If captured, they’ll be his hard candy for eternity.
Tora: That’s probably why you were called here.
The souls here want you to save them from him.
Ushio: So, if I kill him, the souls will be free?
Tora: It won’t matter what you do.
Page 138
Ushio: Why not?
Tora: Regret.
Tora: Someone regrets what happened on this ship terribly.
Tora: When the voices of souls remain strong in this world,
it’s because the souls can’t pass on to the next.
Tora: I don’t know who, but someone’s feelings are keeping them here.
Ushio: A single heart can restrain so many souls?
Tora: I’m a youkai so I don’t know much about souls, but they are complicated.
Ushio: At any rate, where are Ojisan and Onechan?
Ushio: Oh.
Page 139
Samuto: The captain would always stand there, looking out at the sea.
Ayumi: Really.
Ayumi: But I don’t understand why I’m here…

Ushio: What do you mean?

Ayumi: My grandmother said he died when the ship he was on
sunk in a typhoon decades ago.

Ayumi: Every year, Grandma and Mom bow their heads and apologize

Page 124

Ayumi: But I’ve decided. You came and I got on this ship like my grandfather said.
Because there must be something to this. So if my grandfather comes,
we’re going to do whatever bothersome thing he tells us.
Ushio: But I have nothing to do with this.

Ayumi: My grandfather’s name was Yuusuke. Fushido Yuusuke.
Old Man: Fushido…
Old Man: Then that means that you’re…
Old Man: You’re Captain Fushido’s grandchild…

Old Man: Captain…
Old Man: Is this what you were talking about?

Samuto: The engine room is being flooded through the exhaust vents!
Samuto: Our boat was one of five ships hit
making their way back to port when their engines stopped.
Samuto: It looks like our antenna is out.
Samuto: There’s intense flooding from the stern apertures!
*When a ship is swept away by wind because the anchor won’t catch hold

Captain: Get the passengers onto the lifeboats. Turn the light on the ocean.
Captain: The ships in the vicinity need to find as many as possible.
Comm. Officer!
*S.O.S = Disaster Signal (Save Our Ship)
Samuto: I…
Comm.: Samuto-kun! Send out an S.O.S!
Samuto: Yessir!
Samuto: Uwah!
Comm.: This is bad! We’re capsizing!
Samuto: The S.O.S!
Page 135
Samuto: The S.O.S!
Samuto: Just once!
Comm.: It’s too late! You’ll kill yourself!
Samuto: We kicked off the deck when it started to slant
Samuto: And jumped down into the surging sea.
Samuto: The last thing I saw…
Samuto: It was unmistakably the captain.
Samuto: He was sounding the emergency alarm and shouting
as the great prow of the Yuusetsu-maru went under.
Samuto: Perhaps because of that
Samuto: We were found quickly and rescued somehow.
Samuto: However…I have always thought…
That I should have died that day.
Page 136
Samuto: If I had only escaped later
Ayumi: But I don’t understand why I’m here…
Ushio: Ojichan! Neechan!
Ayumi: Ushio-kun!
Ushio: What are you doing? Hurry up!
This is a boat made from the souls who died when it sank!
Someone has such regrets over this ship that the souls can’t pass to the next world!
Ushio: And there’s a youkai eating the souls.
I don’t know when he’ll show up!
。。だって?
Samuto: Regrets over this ship?
Ushio: Right. Someone in this world thinks they could have done something for this ship.
That pained heart is keeping this ship in this world!
Ayumi: Ojisan, where are you going?
Samuto: Fu fu…
Samuto: I understand. I know the reason the captain told me
to get on this ship with you, Aotsuki-kun.
Samuto: It was so you could tell me this.
Page 140
Samuto: It’s me…
Samuto: I’m the reason the souls are trapped here.
Samuto: I don’t know what I should do….
Samuto: But I’m going to do what I’ve been wanting to do.
Ushio: Ojisan!
Crewman: Should I raise anchor?
Captain: No, the anchor chain is tangled.
Captain: Just pull the prow around to face the harbor entrance!
Page 141
Ayumi: Grandpa!
。。 。。一体。。。
Ayumi: Where..where are we?
Ushio: W-we’re on the ship when it sank!
Crewman: The ship’ll manage somehow if it just has some steam!
Keep the fire going!
Crewman: Keep the bags of coal from spilling over.
Crewman: Please evacuate calmly. The boats are perfectly safe.
Crewman: Are you scared? It’s okay.
Crewman: Our radar’s out. Go adjust the power regulators.
Crewman: Yessir!
Crewman: Is the antenna having trouble sending through the sea water?
Crewman: We’re still trying it.
Crewman: The flooding’s decreased.
Crewman: Good.
Crewman: Let’s do our best!
Crewman: All together in high spirits!
Page 142
Samuto: Kuh.
Samuto: It’s then!
Samuto: I’m there now!
Samuto: This time I’ll do it!
Tora: Ushio.
Ushio: Kuh.
Page 144
Crewman: It’s no use! You’ll die!
Samuto: No! This might be nothing but a dream…
Samuto: But this time…This time I won’t run away…
Mikonjiki: Who is trying
To free my food!
Mikonjiki: Unforgivable!

Ushio: Tora, gimme a hand!
Tora: Ch! I’ll have this worthless guy on his way damn quick!

Kagami: What a coincidence, so do I!
I can’t believe this much metal doesn’t sink!
Kagami: Cuz I’m a liberal arts major.

Kagami: It’s way cool.

Ushio: That was terrible.
Kagami: You suck, Katayama!
Ayumi: Fuhn, going to Hokkaidou for your mother’s secret?

Ayumi: It’s just like my grandfather said…
Ushio: What do you mean?
Ayumi: This is all really strange.
Ayumi: Recently, my dead grandfather has come to me in my dreams.

Ayumi: My grandfather was the captain of the Seikan Ferry a long time ago.
Ayumi: All I know of him comes from my grandmother’s stories and his picture.
Ayumi: My grandmother said he died when the ship he was on
sunk in a typhoon decades ago.
Ayumi: Every year, Grandma and Mom bow their heads and apologize
to the bereaved families of those who died in the accident.
Ayumi: But my grandfather came to me, as I said.
Grandpa: Get on the ship
with the boy who holds the spear.
Ayumi: And here I am.
Page 124
Ayumi: This is really annoying talk. My grandfather gave nothing but grief
to my grandmother and mother and now he’s doing it to his granddaughter!
Ayumi: But I didn’t care about what he wanted. I didn’t care at all.
I was just coming back from my band this way as usual, and then I see you…

Because there must be something to this. So if my grandfather comes,

Ayumi: This is a really old ship. What’s here?
Grandpa, if you’re coming out, then come out.
Samuto: Nothing’s changed. The Yuusetsu-maru is just like it was then.

Samuto: Perhaps because of that
Samuto: We were somehow found quickly and rescued.
Samuto: However…I have always thought…
That I should have died that day.
Page 136
Samuto: If I had only escaped later
Samuto: I’m sorry, but please listen to me. The captain came to me in a dream.
Samuto: He came to me, too.
Ayumi: But I don’t understand why I’m here…
Ushio: Ojichan!

Samuto: This time I’ll do it!
Tora: Ushio.
Ushio: Kuh.

Crewman: It’s no use! You’ll die!
Samuto: No! This might be nothing but a dream…
Samuto: But this time…This time I won’t run away…

Mikonjiki: Who is trying
To free my food!
Mikonjiki: Unforgivable!

Tora: Ch! I’ll have this worthless guy on his way damn quick!
