オレの目的地・旭川まではあと少し。でも、難事件は次々と起こるし、
体も痛み出して、とにかく大変。
I’ve only got a little ways to go to reach my goal, Asahikawa. But terrible incidents
keep happening one after another and I’m being wracked by pain, so it’s been hard.

その上、とらのせいで方向違いのえりも岬に到着。
だが、そこでオレたちを待っていたのは、光覇明宗が育てという槍の伝書候補者たち。
On top of that, thanks to Tora, we went the wrong way and ended up at Cape Erimo.
But, while we were there, we met up with some of the Spear’s Chosen Candidates,
raised by the Kouhamei Sect.

その一人、スゴイ体術をみせる少女・関守日輪は、オレを槍の持ち主と認めず、
槍を取りあげようとする。が、母ちゃんの秘密をしるまでは、この槍を手ばなすわけ
にいかない。
The first one was a young girl who displayed amazing martial arts skill, Sekimori Hinowa.
She didn’t recognize me as the owner of the Spear and tried to take it. But I can’t give it up
until I learn my mother’s secret.

そして、バイクに乗って現われた二人目の候補者・秋葉流は、オレが乗ったため、
婢妖に襲われたバスのピンチを、とらと共に救ってくれた。
Then the second Candidate, Akiba Nagare, showed up on a motorcycle and
he and Tora saved a bus that was being attacked by the Hiyou because I was on it.

いま、バイクに便乗して旭川へ！！
Now, I’m hitching a ride on his motorcycle to Asahikawa!

Nagare: Yo, Aotsuki…what’re you thinking about?

潮： え。。。いやあ、たしたコトじゃねえよ。
Ushio: Uh…no, it’s nothing important.

とら： へっ、こいつがたいしたコト考えるわきゃねーや。
Tora: Heh. He means he can’t think of anything important.


流： ふふん。東京にのこしてきた女のコトでも考えてたか。。。？
Nagare: Fu fun. Thinking of the girl you left behind in Toukyou?

潮： そっ、そんなっ、そんなのいねーよ！ちがうよっ。
Ushio: N-N-No, I’m not! That’s not it!

流： わかった　わかった。
Nagare: I got it, I got it.


潮： それに２週間以上も学校休みっぱなしだから。。。
どーせオレなんてもう忘れてるさ。。。
Ushio: It’s been over two weeks since I’ve been to school…
They’ve probably totally forgotten about me…

Asako: Today Mayuko and I are going to the doll museum after class!

麻子： 色々おもしろい人形あるらしいよ。みんなもいってみたい？
Asako: There’ll be a lot of neat dolls. Do you all want to go too?

女： あそこの山の上に新しくできたトコでしょ？
今日私たちダメなんだー。
残念！
Woman: Are you talking about the new one that just opened up on the mountain?
We can’t today.
Too bad.

麻子： さ！早く食べてこれやろうよ！
Asako: Well, hurry up and eat so we can play volleyball!

女： うん、ちょっと待って！
Girl: Okay, just a minute!


真由子： ちわーす！
Mayuko: Howdy*!

Girl: Mayuko! Mayuko!


真由子： んー、どしたのー、麻子がまたなんかヘン？
Mayuko: Huh, what’s up? Is Asako acting strange again?

女： いや別にヘンじゃないけどさー。
なーんかムリしてんじゃないかなーってさ。
Girl: No, she’s not particularly strange but
don’t you think she’s overdoing it now?

女： 表面はいつもの麻子よ。。。
Girl: She’s the same old Asako on the outside…

女： でもたまにさ、ボーッとしてんだよねえ。
Girl: But from time to time, she just drifts off.


女： あんな麻子はじめてよ。蒼月がいなくなって２週間。。。
ずっと、そんな調子だもんねー。
Girl: It’s the first time we’ve seen her like this. Aotsuki hasn’t been here for 2 weeks…
She’s been like this all that time.

真由子： 大丈夫だって。。。麻子なんだかんだいって強いもん。
Mayuko: It’s all right…Asako’s stong and she can handle it.

真由子： 蒼月くんのお父さんだって今に帰ってくるっていってるんだし、
麻子だってそうなればさ！
Mayuko: Aotsuki’s father said that he’ll be coming home soon…
That’s why Asako’s like this now!

女： そーお？
Girl: Really?


麻子： なにうだうだいってんのよーいくよ～。
Asako: What are you guys babbling about? Let’s go~

男： 中村さん。
Boy: Nakamura-san.


男： サンキュ、助かったよ！　教科書。
Boy: Thank you, this textbook save me!

麻子： あ、うん。。。
Asako: Ah, yeah…

男： わるいね　いつも。今度、お礼させてよ！
Boy: Sorry for always doing this. I want to show my appreciation this time!


麻子： ああ、別にいいって！
Asako: Ah, it’s fine.


真由子： ねーあのヒトなに？
Mayuko: Hey, who’s that guy?

女： しらないの？サッカー部の笹木くん。
蒼月なんかよりカッコいいんだから。最近、麻子にアタックしてんのよ。
Girl: You don’t know? That’s Sasaki-kun from the soccer club.
He’s way cooler than Aotsuki and he’s decided to go on the offensive
toward Nakamura now.


女： ほら麻子ってばもてるから、邪魔な蒼月がいなくなったとたんいろいろ、
男からアプローチがさ！
Girl: Hey, Asako’s popular. With Aotsuki out of the way, a lot of boys are approaching her.


圧池： え～そうだったのか～遅れをとった～。
Astuike: Huh? Really? We’re too late~


麻子： ほら早く～。
Asako: Come on! Hurry up!

女： 麻子―ね？笹木くんなんだって！？
Girl: Hey, Asako? What’s up with Sasaki-kun?

麻子： 別にー本かしてだけ。
Asako: Nothing. I just lent him a book.


女： ねーねー麻子―
つきあっちゃいなよー、笹木くんとー。カッコイイよー。
Girl: Hey, hey, Asako!
You should date Sasaki-kun! He’s so cool!

麻子： やーよ。
Asako: No thanks.


女： 麻子もさ、いろいろな男とつきあって見識を深めないと
もったいないよー。
Girl: Asako, it’s a waste if you don’t date a lot of men and don’t broaden your horizons.


女： 蒼月クンばかりが男じゃないよー。
Girl: Guys like Aotsuki-kun don’t really count.


麻子： うるさい！みんなうるさい！！
Asako: SHUT UP! All of you, shut up!

麻子： なんであたしを蒼月とすぐにむすびつけるの！？
Asako: Why are you always lumping me together with Aotsuki!?

麻子： なんでただの幼なじみというだけでくっつけたがんのよ！
Asako: Why am I always stuck together with someone who’s just an old friend!


麻子： いやらしい見方しないでよっ！！
Asako: Don’t look at me like that!


麻子： ふん。
Asako: Fuhn.


真由子： 麻子。。。だめだよ。
Mayuko: Asako…don’t be like this.


真由子： みんな麻子を元気づけようとしていってるんだよ。
Mayuko: Everybody is just trying to cheer you up.

麻子： なーに、じゃ　あたしが元気ないっていうの！？
Asako: What, you think I’m not cheerful enough!?


真由子： だって蒼月くん休んでからの麻子。。。
Mayuko: But the way you’ve been since Aotsuki-kun’s been gone…

麻子： 真由子まで！蒼月、蒼月、うるさいのよっ！！
Asako: You too, Mayuko!? I’m tired of hearing about Aotsuki!!


真由子： わたしそんな麻子。。。キライだ。
Mayuko: I don’t like you like this, Asako.


真由子： これ、返す。。。
Mayuko: You can have this back…

真由子： 蒼月くんのこと心配なのは。。。
麻子だけじゃないよ。
Mayuko: You’re not the only one…
Who’s worried about Aotsuki-kun.


女： 真由子～。
Girl: Mayuko~


男： 終わった。　終わった～。
Boy: We’re done, we’re done~

先生： まだだー。話をきけ～。。。しってるかもしれんが
近所で殺人事件があった。まだ犯人がつかまってない。
Teacher: Not yet! Listen up…you may already know this
but there has been a murder in the neighborhood.
The perpetrator hasn’t been caught.


先生： よってぶっそうだから、部活は中止！各自気をつけて帰るように。
Teacher: In view of the danger, club activities have been canceled.
Everyone be careful on your way home.


男： しってるぜ。あそこのでかい家だろ？
Boy: I know what it is. It’s that big house.

男： へえー。
Boy: Really?

男： そこの家のじいさんとお手伝いさんが殺されたんだってよ～。
Boy: The old man and maid of that house were killed.


男： みつけられた時は、血の海だったってよー。
Boy: They were found in a sea of blood.

男： げ～。
Boy: Geh~

男： でも、目撃者のハナシがまたへんだよー。
Boy: But the eye-witness account was strange.


男： 窓から飛びだしてきた犯人はー
Boy: The suspect he saw jump out the window…

男： 人形だったてさー
Boy: Was a doll!

男： バカ、いくらなんでもそりゃフカシだって！
Boy: Oh, come on! That’s such a load of bull.

男： オレだってそう思うけどよー。
Boy: I thought so too, but then again…


笹木： 中村さん！
Sasaki: Nakamura-kun!

Asako: Sasaki-kun.

笹木： 待ってたんだ。教科書のお礼してかてさ。
Sasaki: I was waiting for you. Like I said, I wanted to thank you for the textbook.


笹木： な。。。これからどこかいこうよ。。。おごるからサ。
Sasaki: So…why don’t we go somewhere, my treat!


麻子： みんな。。。
Asako: Everybody…


麻子： なにが蒼月よ！
Asako: Talking about Aotsuki!

麻子： うん　いいよ！
Asako: Yeah. Okay!


笹子： やった！どこへいきたい？
Sasaki: All right! Where do you want to go?


麻子： みんなのバカ！
Asako: Stupid everybody!

麻子： 真由子のバカ！！
Asako: Stupid Mayuko!


女： じゃーねー　真由子　元気だそうね。
Girl: Bye, Mayuko! Take care.

真由子： んー。
Mayuko: Yeah.


真由子： 私もダメねー、あれはやりすぎねえ。
Mayuko: I’m terrible. I went too far.

真由子： まーったく！うしおくん　なにやってるのよう。
Mayuko: Darn it! Ushio-kun, what are you doing…


男： う。。。
Man: Unh…


真由子： きゃっ、どうしたのケガしてるっ！
Mayuko: Kyah! How did you get hurt?!


男： いかなくちゃ。。。あの博物館に。。。
Man: Don’t go…to that museum…

真由子： いかなくちゃっ。。。て。。。？
Mayuko: Don’t go…?


男： ヤツをなんとかしないと。。。大変なコトになる。。。
一刻も早く。。。いかないと。。。
Man: Nothing can be done against it… Something terrible has happened…
It moves so fast…don’t go…


男： 人形博物館に！
Man: To the doll museum!

Sasako: You’re interested in this?

麻子： うん。
Asako: Yeah.

笹木： しかし意外だなー。中村さんにこんなシュミがあったなんてねえ。
Sasaki: Well, I just wasn’t expecting that you’d have this sort of hobby.


笹木： 陸上やってる姿からは想像もでもないよ。
Sasaki: I’d never have imagined it since you’re so grounded.

麻子： そう？
Asako: Really?

Ushio: Heh heh heh~ Asako’s a doll!~


麻子： さ。。。さあ　次こっちよ。。。
Asako: W-well, over to the next one…


麻子： やだ、なんでうしおと笹木くんをならべてんのよ！
Asako: Damn, why am I comparing Ushio and Sasaki-kun!


笹木： 中村さんさあ。。。蒼月と。。。つきあってんの？
Sasaki: Nakamura-san…are you…dating Aotsuki?


麻子： やだなあ　笹木くんまで！そんなコトあるわけないでしょー。
ただの幼なじみ、ウワサよ！
Asako: No way! You too, Sasaki-kun? It’s nothing like that.
He’s just an old friend. That’s just a rumor!

笹木： そうかあ！そうだよね。中村さんがあんなヤツとつきあう
わけないよね。
Sasaki: Really! Of course. You’d never date a guy like that.


麻子： あんなヤツ。。。
Asako: A guy like that…


麻子： なんであいつの悪口いわれてあたしが気になるのよ！？
Asako: Why am I so bothered by that insult!?

笹木： そうかあ　よかったァ。
Sasaki: Really. That’s great!


笹木： さあ　ここでてどっかいこうよ！
Sasaki: So, let’s go somewhere after we leave.

麻子： うん。
Asako: Okay.

笹木： うわー　キレイだね　中村さん。
Sasaki: Uwa! It’s pretty, Nakamura-san.

麻子： うん、キレイね。。。キレイだけど、なんかこの人形―
Asako: Yeah, pretty... It’s pretty but somehow, this doll is…


麻子： こわいわ。
Asako: Scary.

男： ああ　わるいな。。。つきあわせてさ。。。
Man: Aah, I’m sorry…to drag you into this…

真由子： ねえ。。。病院いかなくて大丈夫なの？
Mayuko: Hey…will you be okay if we don’t go to the hospital?


真由子： でも安西さん、その話怖いわ。。。
信じられないくらい。。。
Mayuko: But, Anzai-san, that scary tale you told…
I can’t believe it…

安西： ああ、オレだって信じられないよ　井上さん。。。
Anzai: Yeah, I can barely believe it, Inoue-san…


安西： 山の上に最近できた人形博物館をしってるかい？
Anzai: You know that doll museum that was recently built up on the mountain?

真由子： うん。
Mayuko: Yeah.


安西： あの博物館はじいちゃんが設立したんだ。。。
Anzai: The museum was established by my grandpa…

安西： じいちゃんは仕事よりも人形が好きでさ。
Anzai: My grandpa likes dolls more than his job.


じいちゃん： これはフランスの人がつくったアヒルのからくり人形だよ。
水を飲んだり羽ばたいたりがーがー鳴いたりもするんだよ。
Jiichan: This is a karakuri duck made by a French man.
It drinks water, flaps its wings, and quacks.


じいちゃん： これは茶運び人形。お茶を運んで飲み終わったお茶わんを
もって帰ってくるのさ。すごいだろう！
Jiichan: This is a tea carrying doll. It brings you tea and when you’re finished,
it returns your tea cup. It’s wonderful!


じいちゃん： 小さい頃から僕によくからくり人形のはなしをしてくれた。。。
Jiichan: He’s often talked about karakuri doll since I was little…


じいちゃん： そして仕事を退いてあの博物館の館長になった時はすごい
喜びようだったよ。
Jiichan: So when he retired and became curator of that museum, he was overjoyed.

安西： ―だけど。。。
Anzai: But…

父： なんですって、父さん、あの博物館を閉める？
Father: Dad, what do you mean you’re closing the museum?


父： あそこはまだ始めたばかりじゃないですか？
私だった出資してるんですよ！
Father: Didn’t you just open it?
I invested in it!


じいちゃん： あの博物館にはとんでもないモノを棲みつかせてしまったんだ。
Jiichan: Something unspeakable is living in that museum…


安西： その時はなんのことかわからなかったんだけど。。。
Anzai: I didn’t know what he was talking about at the time, but…

安西： 昨日。。。
家にじいちゃんとお手伝いさんしかいなかった時。。。
Anzai: Yesterday…
When it was just my grandpa and his maid in the house…


安西： じいちゃん　じいちゃん　　どうしたんだよ？
Anzai: Grandpa! Grandpa, what wrong?

安西： なにがあったんだよ　いったい！？
Anzai: What happened!?


お手伝い： おじいさまの部屋で大きな物音がしたんです。
Maid: There was a terrible noise in your grandfather’s room.


お手伝い： そして来てみたらおじいさまが。。。
Maid: When I came to see what it was, your grandfather-

安西： じいちゃん！
Anzai: Grandpa!

安西： どっ、どうし。。。

安西： ひっ。
Anzai: Hih!


安西： あぐ！

じいちゃん： あれは。。。人間の心臓を動力につかう。。。魔性の人形だ。
Grandpa: It’s…a demon doll…using a human heart to move.


じいちゃん： 信行。。。私は。。。人形を集めてゆくうちに恐ろしい人形
を手にいれてしまった。。。
Jiichan: Nobuyuki…I got that terrible doll while I was collecting the others…

安西： じいちゃん。。。！！
Anzai: Grandpa…!


じいちゃん： 博物館だ。ヤツは私の博物館に棲んでいる。。。
Jiichan: The museum. It lives at the museum…

じいちゃん： あそこにいってあいつを。。。止めてくれ。。。
Jiichan: Please…go there and…stop it…


じいちゃん： 。。。でないとこれからもヤツは。。。
Jiichan: …if you can’t, then it will continue…

真由子： じゃ。。。その人形を壊しにいくのね。。。
Mayuko: So…you’re going to break that doll, right?

安西： うん。。。君はこの辺でいい。。。
Anzai: Yeah…You can leave me here…


安西： じいちゃんがヤツを燃やそうと昨日のうちにガソリンを運び込んで
いたらしい。。。君は危険だからかえるんだ。。。
Anzai: It looks like Grandpa brought gasoline to his house yesterday to burn the thing…
It’s dangerous, but I’m going back there…


真由子： あ！
Mayuko: Ah!

安西： どうした？
Anzai: What’s wrong?


真由子： 麻子！
Mayuko: Asako!

真由子： 友だちが。。。友だちが、いってるこもしれないの。。。
Mayuko: My friend…My friend might be there…

Sasaki: There’s nobody here…

麻子： 平日の夕方だもんね。
Asako: It’s a weekday evening.


笹木： というコトは二人っきり。。。
Sasaki: That’s means we’re all alone…

踊って太鼓を鳴らして妖怪を呼ぶ。それしかできない。
It dances and plays the taiko to call youkai. That’s all it can do.

Chiba Prefecture/Kuwabara Tsuyoshi

権力者に妻と牛を奪われ殺された農夫の怨念。きわめて凶暴、
動きは素早く好戦的。
This youkai was created from a peasant’s grudge against a nobleman who killed his wife and cow.
It is extremely brutal, nimble, and belligerent.

潮： 満月の夜、さびしくなったポンポンは、踊って太鼓を鳴らした。
すると、見るからに怖い蓄卑がやってきてしまった！！
「助けてくれえ、ボカぁ妖怪を呼ぶことしかできねーんだああぁ」
朝まで鬼ごっこが続いたとさ。
Ushio: On the night of a full moon, lonely Pon Pon danced and played the taiko.
Thereupon the fearsome Chikuhi saw him and came after him!
“Spare me, I can’t do anything else but call other youkai~”
They continued playing tag until morning.
