箱： うしおととらは、符咒師・鏢と会い、さらなり強さを得るべく、
家に帰って行った。
Box: Ushio and Tora met up with the seal magician, Hyou, grew stronger,
and returned stronger.

箱： 今日は、その頃別の場所にいる、ある男の様子を見てみようじゃないか。
Box: Today, while they’re somewhere else, we’ll look in on another man’s situation.

箱： 諸君が知っているうしおととらについて何か面白いことを考えてみたいだよ。
Box: He considers anything concerning the Ushio and Tora you all know interesting.

諸： ありゃ守矢さん。残ってたんスか？
Person: Oh, hey, Moriya-san. You still here?

守矢： ああ。。。ほかのヤツらは？
Moriya: Yeah. Everybody else?

諸： みんな今日の「ニュース」の反省会っス。
いいんスかァ？こんなトコでサボってて。
Person: Everyone’s at the News review meeting today.
Is it all right for you to be playing hooky in here?

守矢： いいの！事件記者は、何にでも探求心をだな。。。
Moriya: It’s fine. A police reporter needs a heart for the chase…

諸： でも、デスクもゴーサインだしてないのに、
「オバケ」だ「妖怪」だでしょう？カンカンっスよ。
Person: But the copy editor hasn’t green-lighted anything about “obake” or “youkai”,
has he? He’s gonna be pissed.

守矢： ま。。。いわしとくさ。
Moriya: Well, only if someone tells him.

諸： ああまたこれ見てんスか。。。去年の春先、
どうだかの中学で誘拐だか、爆発だかあった時の。。。
Person: Oh, you’re still looking at that? From that kidnapping and explosion
at some middle school last spring…

諸： 他社のニュースで流されたヤツっスよね。
Person: It was broadcast by another news station!

守矢： ああ。。。
Moriya: Yeah…

諸： これが「ニュースランナーズ10時」社会部の
腕きき事件記者守矢克美の妖怪存在説を動かねものとしたと。。。
Person: This “theory that youkai exist” is something “News Runners 10pm”’s
steady police reporter Moriya Katsumi just can’t let go of…

守矢： 茶化するじゃない。。。説なんかじゃねーんだよ。
Moriya: Don’t give me a hard time. It’s not a “theory”!

守矢： ここ一年ばかり、妙な事件ばっかり起きてるじゃねえか。
飛行機がバケモノのせいで落ちかかるわ。。。
寝台特急が、怪獣のせいで、トンネルもろとも
ふきとびかかるわ。。。
Moriya: Haven’t weird accidents been happening throughout this last year?
Airplanes falling out of the sky because of a bakemono…
A high-speed sleeper train flying out of control through the tunnel
due to some monster…

守矢： そのはこにも説明のつけようがない事件が起きっぱなしだ。
Moriya: All these incidents keep happening, with no explanation.

守矢： 警察もらちがあかねーしよ。。。
Moriya: The police haven’t settled anything…

諸： はい、はい。また今度聞かしてもらいます。
でもあんまり入れこまない方がいいっスよ。
Person: Yes, yes. I’ve heard it all before.
But you shouldn’t put such effort into this.

人： 守矢さん、バケモンみたいに事件を探しあててくる
じゃないスか。仲間のオバケから恨まれますよ。
Person: Moriya-san, don’t try to find incidents that looke like bakemono.
Their friend obake will bear a grudge against you.

守矢： ちぇ。。。
どいつもこいつも信じねえ。。。
Moriya: Cheh!
Nobody believes me…

守矢： でも。。。何かあるんだ。絶対に。。。
Moriya: But…there’s something here. I’m sure of it.

守矢： はじまりは確かにこの絵だった。。。
Moriya: It all started with this picture…

TV: These are not special effects.

守矢： その時はどこかのバカがつくった映像かと思ったさ。
Moriya: At the time, I thought some idiot had made the image.

守矢： だが二週間後加神町のデパート爆発の時、
通行人がたまたま撮った写真―
Moriya: But two weeks later, a passerby snapped a photo
during the department store explosion in Kagami Town-

守矢： 東端のこの黒い髪のようなもの。。。それと剣のようなこれ。
Moriya: On the left side, there was something that looked like black hair…and a blade.

守矢： これは同じものじゃないか。。。
Moriya: It was the same as this one…

守矢： ビデオの事件はー
Moriya: The video incident-

人： あれ、ヨロイだったよなァ、でっけえの。。。
Person: Huh? It was armor, then it got huge?

人： いや、ヘビっつうか、ムカデみたいだったぜえ、
信じらんねえよなァ。
Person: No, it was a snake, or like a centipede. I just don’t believe it.

守矢： 写真の方の事件は。。。
Moriya: And the photograph...

人： 生首よ。。。生首がさーっと飛んでったの。。。
女の子、追いかけてたみたいで。。。
Person: Severed heads! Severed heads just flying around!
They were following a girl-

守矢： ありえない。。。そう思ったが、オレはそれらの事件に、
Moriya: I thought those incidents were impossible…

守矢： さらに深く引き込まれていった。。。
Moriya: And then I got even further in…

箱： おいおい守矢とやら、本当にのめりこむのァやめるがいいよ。
諸君はわかるね。彼の情報が本当はどういうコトか。。。
彼の見た、黒い髪をもつ者が、誰かを。。。
Box: Oi, oi, Moriya. You really should give up on this thing you’re in.
You all know what’s going on. You know his information is true.
And that someone he saw with black hair was…

箱： 蒼月潮は、普通の中学生だった。
少なくとも自分の家のお寺の蔵の地下にいた妖―
Box: Aotsuki Ushio, a normal high school student.
At least he was, until he pulled the holy evil-killing spear,
the Beast Spear,

箱： とらを、退魔の霊槍「獣の槍」から、
解放するまではね。
Box: Releasing Tora, the bakemono he found in the underground
storage room of his temple home.

箱： ビデオの画像は、そんなうしおととらが、
初めて一緒に戦った時のものだよ。
Box: The video image is of the first time Ushio and Tora
fought together.

箱： うしおは、危険な妖、とらを、自分が自由にした
責任上、倒すことを誓い。。。
Box: Ushio is responsible for freeing Tora, a dangerous bakemono, and
swears he’ll exterminate him…

箱： とらはとらで、いつかは獣の槍で自分を脅かす
ちび人間を喰ってやると誓った。
Box: While Tora, being Tora, vows someday to eat the chibi human who
threatens him with the Beast Spear.

箱： 写真の方の事件は、
餓眠という生首の妖が、自分らを封じた、
日崎御角という霊能者と、
うしおの幼なじみ、井上真由子をまちがえて、
追い回した時の話だ。
Box: The photo was taken when some severed head bakemono called Gamin
mistook Ushio’s good friend Inoue Mayuko for Hizaki Mikado,
the medium who sealed them.

箱： この戦いで真由子は、とらに助けられた。
以来彼女は、とらをペットのように思ってるらしい。。。
とらは喰ってやるつもりらしいがな。
Box: Mayuko was saved by Tora in that fight.
Ever since, she’s thought of Tora as a pet.
Tora intends to eat her as well.

守矢： そして。。。
それからも事件はたて続けに起こった。。。
Moriya: And after that…
Accidents just continued happening…

守矢： 去年の夏、巨大な海獣の発見と、
Moriya: Last summer, a massive sea beast was spotted,

守矢： 二日後、海面から無数の光の玉が出たとの多数の目撃があった。
Moriya: Two days later, uncountable balls of light were seen erupting from
the surface of the ocean.

守矢： その直後、同海上に不明のタンカーを含む、多くの船舶が忽然と現れた。
Moriya: Immediately after that, several ships suddenly appeared in that same area of ocean,
including an unknown tanker.

箱： 。。。不思議だろうなァ。
そりゃ、うしおととらが、あやかしという巨大な妖と戦った時だ。
Box: Mysterious, huh?
That was when Ushio and Tora fought the massive bakemono, the Ayakashi.

箱： あやかしに飲みこまれた、やはり幼なじみの中村麻子達を助けに
行ったんだな。
Box: He went to save his good friend Ayako, who’d been swallowed by the Ayaskahi.

箱： そして。。。
Box: Then…

箱： うしおは、大変なことを聞くんだ。
Box: Ushio heard something earth-shattering.

海座等： なにィイ、おまえ、今も生きつづけるあの女の息子かァア。
Umizatou: What! You’re the son of that woman who still lives!?

箱： うしおは驚いた。父から、母はもう死んだと聞かされていたからだ。
帰ってきた潮に、父が語ったのは。。。
Box: Ushio was stunned. He’d always heard from his father that his mother was dead.
When Ushio went home, his father told him…

箱： 父はただの僧ではなく、妖を退治する法力を持った、
法力僧であること。。。
そして父の属する光覇明宗は、昔から、「獣の槍」を護り、
それを使う者を育てる役目をもっていること。。。
Box: He isn’t an ordinary priest, but a hourikisou,
a priest with the power to exterminate bakemono.
His father belongs to the Kouhamei Sect, whose aims have long been to protect
the Beast Spear and to raise the one chosen to use it.

箱： そして、獣の槍は、「白面の者」と呼ばれる大妖と戦う
運命にあるということだった。
Box: The Beast Spear is destined to battle the daiyoukai called Hakumen no Mono.

箱： そしてこういったー
Box: And then he told Ushio-

Shigure： 母さんのことが知りたくば、北海道の旭川まで旅をしろ。
Shigure: If you want to know about your mother, journey to Asahikawa in Hokkaidou.

箱： うしおととらの旅が始まった。
Box: Ushio and Tora began their quest.

テープ： そうだ。。。こいつは、空にいるんだ！
Tape: Yes! It’s in the sky!

守矢： この謎の言葉を残して、飛行機が落ち、
そしたあの事件が起きた。。。
Moriya: And then the next incident…
with only these words left behind,
the plane crashed.

テープ： こちらは仙台空港です。ただ今から、着陸脚の出ない機が、
胴体着陸を行います。
Tape: The is Sendai Airport. We now have a plane whose landing gear won’t drop
coming in for a belly landing.

テープ： 果たした無事に降りられるのでしょうか！？
Tape: Are they going to be able to make it down okay!?

テープ： 何か見えます！
Tape: I see something!

人： 主翼の下に何かいます。
Person: There’s something under the wings!

守矢： これは。。。
確かにあれだ。。。
Moriya: This…
is definitely the same…

守矢： 最初のビデオで見た。。。
朱色の怪物。。。
Moriya: What I saw on the first video…
the golden monster…

人： 窓の外にでかいバケモノがいたんだよ。。。
Person: There was a huge bakemono outside the window!

人： で、乗ってた男の子の髪が急に。。。のびたの。。。
Person: Then, this boy on the plane suddenly grew…all this hair…

守矢： そこに取材に行ってた俺は、乗客名簿に名があるにもかかわらず、
事件現場から、乗客が一人いなくなっているのに気づいた。。。
Moriya: I went there to investigate and noticed that there was one passenger missing
from the scene of the crash, even though his name was on the flight register…

守矢： 蒼月潮。。。１４歳、東京都みかど市在住。
Moriya: Aotsuki Ushio…14 years old, living in Mikado City in the Toukyou Metropolitan area.

箱： ほうほう、この男ようやくうしおにたどりついたか。。。
そのとおり、うしおととらは、北海道行きの飛行機上で、
「衾」と戦うハメになった。
Box: Hoh hoh, this guy’s finally stumbled on to Ushio…
Of course, that was when Ushio and Tora ended up fighting
Fusuma on the plane trip to Hokkaidou.

箱： そうして、自衛官・厚沢の助けを得、妖は倒したが、
彼らは仙台から陸路を歩かなければならなくなったんだっけ。。。
Box: Well, with the help of Atsuzawa from the JSDF, they beat the bakemono,
but then had to walk overland from Sendai.

守矢： その辺りから蒼月は学校を休んでいる。
Moriya: Aotsuki was out of school from that time on.

守矢： 父親は病欠だと学校に届けていたらしいが。。。
Moriya: But his father told the school he was absent due to illness…

函館 Hakodate
青森 Aomori
遠野 Toono

守矢： 遠野地方の小村が謎の殺人鬼に襲われた事件―
Moriya: There was the mystery of a man-killing demon attacking in small villages near Toono…

守矢： 秋田から青森に向かっての「なまはげ連続殺人事件」－
Moriya: And the “Namahage Serial Killer” from Akita to Aomori-

守矢： 青森から函館に向かうフェリーが、幽霊船と出合ったという話―
全てが眉ヅバだがな。。。
Moriya: There’s the story about the ferry from Aomori to Hakodate meeting a ghost ship-
They’re all mystifying…

箱： いやいや、記者さん。眉ツバじゃないなァ。。。
Box: No, no, Mr. Reporter. Not so mystifying…

箱： どれもこれも。。。
うしおが旭川に向かう途中の戦闘の数々だものな。。。
Box: They were all
battles Ushio had on his way toward Asahikawa.

守矢： だけどおかしな事がある。
北海道の登別近くの村で、毒ガス事件を取材した時のことだ。
Moriya: But there’s something even stranger.
I discovered it after that poison gas affair in a village near Noboribestu, Hokkaido.

守矢： オレは、そのガスの中を抜けたという、マイクロバスに
なってた人に、話を聞いた。
Moriya: I heard it from someone who’d been riding in a microbus through the middle of the gas.

女： ええ、洞爺から乗せたその男の子に、わたしら助けられたんだもんねえ。
Woman: We were saved by that boy who’d been riding since Touya.

女： もうちょっとで、生きてるようなあの霧に、食べられるとこだったわ。
Woman: And that mist was alive! It was going to eat us!

守矢： その女は証言したんだ。
Moriya: That was the woman’s testimony.

守矢： だが、五日後、「男の子」という言葉と蒼月潮を重ねた
オレが、また、話を聞きに行った時。。。
Moriya: But five days later, when I went back to ask her if
“that boy” had been Aotsuki Ushio…

女： さァねえ、そんなコトもあったかしら。
Woman: Well…that might be what happened…

女： 男の子？いたかなァ。。。
Woman: A boy? There might have been a boy…

守矢： これは。。。どういうことだ！？
数日前は覚えていたのに。。。わざとか。。。いや。。。
Moriya: What-what was this?
She couldn’t remember something from a few days ago?
Is it on purpose? No…

守矢： こんなことは取材中に幾度もあった。
バケモノらしいもんに襲われて、それを神の長い少年と、
奇妙な妖に救われた人々はー
Moriya: I found this several times during my investigations.
People were attacked by bakemono and then a long-haired boy
and a mysterious bakemono saved them-

女： で、乗ってた男の子の髪が急に。。。のびたの。
手に長い棒みたいの持ってて。。。
Woman: This boy who was riding suddenly grew all this hair.
He had this thing like a long staff…

守矢： 妙に記憶があいまいになる。
Moriya: And then, strangely, their memories became vague.

女： えー、これ私の声だ。こんなコトいったっけ～
Woman: Wow, that’s my voice. Did I say that?

守矢： なぜだ。。。！？だからこそこのいった妙な事件も。。。
すぐに、日々の雑多なニュースにまぎれてしあうんだ。いったい。。。
なぜだー！
Moriya: Why! That’s why these are such strange incidents…
and why they slipped through the other daily news media.
But why!

守矢： そしてこの映像―
Moriya: And this image…

守矢： 去年9月19日、旭川で撮られた異様な雲だが。。。
よく見ると、ひとつひとつが生きもののようにも見える。
Moriya: Of a weird cloud, taken in Asahikawa September 19th, last year…
If you look closely, you can see it’s made of many, many living creatures.

守矢： そして仮に、蒼月が事件に関わってきたとして、
Moriya: So, if I connect all these inicidents with Aotsuki…

守矢： それが旭川に彼が着いた時だとは考えられないだろうか。。。
Moriya: I can’t help but think that was when he arrived in Asahikawa.

守矢： 現にその夜、旭川市内から古い景勝地神居古たんへと向かう
国道で事故が即発した。
Moriya: On that very night, there were several accidents on the highway from
Asahikawa proper to Kamuikotan.

神居古たん
Kamuikotan

守矢： 何か長いものを持った人形のもの。。。
高速で走るそれは、蒼月ではなかったか。。。
Moriya: Flying down the road at high-speed…
Could the human-shaped figure carrying something long
have been Aotsuki?

守矢： だとすれば、なぜ！蒼月潮はなぜ旭川に向かった？
そしてカムイコタンとかいう所で、何を見つけた！？
Moriya: If it was, then why! Why did Aotsuki Ushio go to Asahikawa?
And what did he find at the place called Kamuikotan!?

箱： おやまァ、この男はここまでしか知らんというわけだ。
ま、仕方あるまい。
Box: Oh boy, that’s all this guy knows? Ah well.

箱： うしおが、旅の間の戦いで、獣の槍を使いすぎて、
その魂を槍に吸いとられ、
獣化してしまったこと。。。そして、白面の者の体の一部のある、
カムイコタンまで槍が導いたこと。。。
Box: During the fights on Ushio’s way, he’d used the Beast Spear too much,
and the Beast Spear consumed his soul.
He became a beast…and the Spear guided him to Kamuikotan,
where there was a piece of Hakumen no Mono.

箱： うしおに関わった五人の娘が、いかに命をかけてうしおを
人間に戻したかなど。。。
Box: Five girls connected to Ushio risked their lives to turn Ushio back into
a human being…

箱： わかろうずもないからなァ。。。
Box: There’s no way the reporter could’ve known that.

箱： そして、うしおはそこで、時逆という、
時間を旅する妖に会い、
過去に行き、全ての事情を知ることになった。
Box: Then Ushio met with the bakemono who could turn back time, Tokisaka.
He went into the distant past and came to understand everything.

箱： 白面の者という巨大な妖が中国にいたこと、
それを倒すために獣の槍は生まれたこと。。。
Box: That there was a huge bakemono called Hakumen no Mono in China,
and how the Beast Spear, made to defeat it, was born…

箱： 白面が眠るのは日本の要の岩―
白面が次に飛び上がる時、日本は沈んでしまうだろうこと。。。
Box: That Hakumen sleeps in the pillars necessary to Japan-
And that when Hakumen next flies free, Japan will sink into the ocean.

箱： 日本の人間と妖の連合軍によって、傷つい白面の者が眠る海で、
今、やつを見張っているのがーうしおの母であることも。。。
Box: That Hakumen no Mono sleeps in the sea, injured by humans and bakemono
of Japan working in concert,
and now it is watched over- by Ushio’s mother.

箱： 旅の途中うしおは、日本の東の妖達を治める、
妖の長と和解する。
Box: On his journey, he reconciled with the bakemono Osa,
who governs all the bakemono of the East of Japan.

守矢： 最近は。。。
沖縄の西表島近くの沖での、異常発光現象。。。
Moriya: Recently…
there was that strange light phenomenon in that trench
in Okinawa near Iriomote Island.

守矢： 同時に、日本上空を西に向かって飛ぶ、黒いものを見たという、
報告が各地から寄せられた。
Moriya: At the same time, reports from all over came in of sightings of something black
flying westward in the skies over Toukyou.

守矢： どんどん得体の知れん現象がでかくなってきてやがる。
Moriya: These unexplained phenomena are steadily getting larger.

箱： それは、西の妖の長、神野が白面を攻撃した時のものだよ。
Box: That was when the Western Osa, Shinno, attacked Hakumen.

箱： その戦いを通じて、うしおは神野とも同盟を結び得た。
Box: Through that battle, Ushio made an alliance with Shinno.

守矢： わからん。。。
蒼月はこれらの事と関係するのか。。。わからない。
Moriya: I don’t understand…
Are all these things connected to Aotsuki? I don’t know.

守矢： だが。。。推測できなくもない。。。
Moriya: However…I have some guesses…

守矢： まずひとつは、何かが西の海にあるということ。。。
二つめ。それが日本の妖怪（いたとしたら）を刺激して、
活動させているのではないか。。。ということ。。。
Moriya: The first is that something is in the ocean to the west.
Second, it’s provoking the youkai of Japan (if there are any) to action of some sort…

守矢： 三つ。何かが人間にそれを覚えていたほしくないようだ。。。
Moriya: And third, something doesn’t want human beings to remember anything about it…

守矢： さて、デスクのおしかりを受けに行くか。
Moriya: Well, I’ve earned a reaming from the copy editor, haven’t I?

守矢： でも。。。きっと今のままじゃ終わらねえんだろ。
Moriya: But…I’m sure it’s not over with this.

守矢： これはオレのカンだかな。。。
いまにデカイことが起きる。。。そして。。。
Moriya: That’s my instinct.
Something big is going to happen…and then…

守矢： その騒ぎの中心にいるのは。。。
Moriya: At the heart of this chaos will be…

守矢： 蒼月潮、
朱色のバケモノ。
Moriya: Aotsuki Ushio
and the golden bakemono.

これが推測の四つめさ。
Moriya: You two?
You’re my fourth guess.

守矢： 見てろよ。
きっと秘密をつけんでみせるぜ。
Moriya: I’m watching you.
You’re going to show me your secrets.

箱： 時は迫っている。
ふふふ、男よ。あんたは相当鋭いがね。。。
Box: The time approaches.
Fuh fuh fuh, man. You’re very sharp…

箱： あんたの予想は、全く及ばないだろうよ。。。
Box: You needn’t anticipate for long.

箱： そしても。。。
当のうしおやとらにもね。。。
Box: And then…
Ushio and Tora will be at the head…

Mayuko: What kind of cheese do you want?

霧雄： 金くれっつってんの！
Kirio: GIMME SOME MONEY!

霧雄： いや。。。その。。。
Kirio: No-I mean…um…

真由子： そうだよね
おこずかいあげてなかったもんね
