麻子： いいえーおじさん。わたしがずっとＧジャンに入れっぱなしだったから。。。
Asako: Nah, Ojisan. I’ve had it in my jean jacket for a long time…

紫暮： うしおは使いに出とるがもう帰ることだよ。。。
しかしあのバカ、麻子ちゃんに預けっぱなしか。
母の形見を何と得とるのか。。。
Shigure: Ushio says he’ll return it when he takes it.
But that idiot keeps giving it to you.
It’s supposed to be a memento of his mother!

麻子： あの。。。
Asako: Um…

麻子： うしおのお母さん。。。奥さん。。。どういう方だったんですか。
Asako: Ushio’s mother…your wife…what kind of person was she?

紫暮： あっ、麻子ちゃん。何をいきなり。。。
Shigure: A-Asako-chan! What’s this, all of a sudden…

麻子： ごめんなさい。でも。。。ぜひ聞きたくって。。。

Asako: I’m asking seriously, Ojisan!!

Shigure: Come on~
That’s not something you ask an adult~

麻子： 聞きたいわ聞きたいわ聞きたいわ。
Asako: I-wanna-hear-I-wanna-hear-I-wanna-hear!

紫暮： 麻子ちゃんうしおに似てきてない？
Shigure: You’re acting a lot like Ushio, Asako-chan.

麻子： そうですか？
Asako: Really?

紫暮： でもなァ　こんなハナシ聞いても面白くないよー。
Shigure: But it’s not even an interesting story.

麻子： おねがいおじさん！！
Asako: Pretty please, Ojisan!!

紫暮： それは今から１６年も前。。。
Shigure: It was 16 years ago…

紫暮： 場所は九州の伊万里―焼き物で有名な所でな。
Shigure: The place was Imari in Kyuushuu-the place famous for pottery.

紫暮： 九月の終わりだったなァ。。。
Shigure: It was the end of September…

紫暮： 呼んだか？
Shigure: You called?

須磨子： はい、
。。。あの卒爾ながらおたずねいたしますが。。。
Sumako: Yes,
I apologize for the sudden nature of the call…

須磨子： この傘はどうやって開けば良いのでしょうか？
Sumako: Do you happen to know how to open this umbrella?

須磨子： あら。。。
Sumako: Oh?

須磨子： まァ！
Sumako: Oh my!

須磨子： ばね仕掛けて開くなんて、便利な傘ですねえ。。。
Sumako: It’s opens by use of a spring! What a convenient umbrella…

須磨子： ぬれますよ、御一緒しましょう。。。
Sumako: You’re getting wet. Let’s go together…

須磨子： 抱いてください。
Sumako: Hold me!

麻子： でも、おじさん。話の中で何か冷たぁいカンジするんだけど。。。
Asako: But, Ojisan, there’s sort of a cold feeling to this story…

麻子： 手がすべっちゃたー
Asako: My hand slipped~

紫暮： その頃の私は今よりちょっぴり荒っぽくてなァ。
Shigure: Back then, I was slightly more rough-hewn than I am today.

紫暮： 麻子ちゃんに今さらかくすワケにもいかないが、
私は法力僧だろ。。。
Shigure: I haven’t actually hidden this from you, Asako-chan,
but I’m a hourikisou.

紫暮： 法力僧ってのは妖怪を退治する使命を持った僧なんだ。
Shigure: A hourikisou is a monk whose mission is to exterminate youkai.

人： 紫暮にも困ったものだ。
あやつは、強い法力を頼んで、
まるで妖を滅するのを楽しんでいるようではないか。
Person: Shigure’s a bit of a problem.
He has powerful houriki at his command
but doesn’t he seem to enjoy destroying bakemono just a little too much?

人： 悟りの道を極めようともせず。。。
だが、妖を殺し続ける。あれで光覇明宗の僧といえるのか。
凶羅のように破門となる日も近かろう。
Person: He doesn’t try to walk the path of enlightenment.
But he keeps killing bakemono. Is that all it takes to be a monk for the Kouhamei Sect?
The day’s coming soon when he’ll be excommunicated, just like Kyoura.

麻子： あの。。。何でそんなに荒っぽかった。。。の？
Asako: Uhm…but why were you so violent?

紫暮： さァてね、何か面白くないコトでもあったかね。
Shigure: Well…there was something that tore at me.

人： これだからいくら自分の寺にあってもなァ。。。
Hito: It’s because of that. Even though it’s in his own temple…

人： そうだ。選ばれぬわけだ。。。
Person: Yes. He still wasn’t chosen…

人： 獣の槍に。。。
Person: By the Beast Spear…

人： 獣の槍！妖を消し飛ばす、
史上最強といわれる退魔の霊槍！
Person: The Beast Spear! The holy spear that scatters bakemono,
called the strongest destroyer of evil in history!

紫暮： 光覇明宗の裏の使命はこの槍を使う者を選び育てること。。。
槍はその者の前に自然に現れるだろう。
Shigure: The Kouhamei Sect’s hidden mission was to raise the one who would
be chosen to use the Spear…
The Spear would appear before the person naturally.

紫暮： なぜだ！！なぜ槍は己を選ばない！！
Shigure: Why!! Why hasn’t the Spear chosen me!!

紫暮： 己の寺の蔵にあるのだぞ！なんでその扉は己に開かないのだ！
Shigure: It was in the warehouse of my temple! Why won’t that door open!

紫暮： 己の法力は最高のはず。
そのために血を吐く修行もしてきた。。。
Shigure: My houriki is the best.
I train until I vomit blood so that it will be…

紫暮： なぜ！槍は己を認めない！！
それなら法力僧などやっていてもしかたがないではないか。。。
Shigure: Why!! The Spear won’t recognize me!!
Then is there nothing I can do but act as a hourikisou?

お役目： 紫暮。。。どうしたのですか。前は修行熱心な良い僧でしたのに。。。
Oyakume: Shigure…what has happened? Before, you were a good monk
who trained with enthusiasm…

お役目： おまえが荒れるのはわからぬでもな。。。
Oyakume: It is not as though I do not know why you are so stormy…

お役目： でも、人にはその人なりの使命と役割があるのです。
Oyakume: But each person has his or her own mission and role to play.

紫暮： だから自分は妖を。。。
Shigure: And mine is killing bakemono-

お役目： 今のおまえは妖に八つ当たりしているだけです。
Oyakume: Up to this point, your bursts of anger have only been at bakemono.

お役目： まだ。。。おまえにはわかるまい。。。
Oyakume: Still…I don’t know about yout…

お役目： 今年もまた、あの時季です。。。お行きなさい。
Oyakume: It is that time again this year…please go.

紫暮： は。。。
Shigure: Yes, ma’am.

須磨子： 私は、ある方のご紹介で、二か月程前からこの地に静養に参りました。
Sumako: I came here to convalesce two months ago when someone referred me to it.

須磨子： この、伊万里の大川内山という所は本当に良い所でございますね。
Sumako: Ookawa Uchiyama here in Imari is truly a wonderful place.

須磨子： 私のような世間に疎い者にとっては、この地はとても安らぎます。。。
たまに土をいじらせてもらってるんですよ。
Sumako: This place puts me, someone ignorant of the world, at ease …
It’s as though the earth has barely been disturbed.

見慣れぬ物ばかりで、何ひとつ満足に買えません。
Sumako: However, because things have gotten more troublesome in the home,

I’m not familiar with any of it and can’t buy any one thing that’s satisfying.

須磨子： あの。。。お坊様。。。
Sumako: Um…Obousama*…

*polite title for a monk

須磨子： こちらには妖を退治されにいらっしゃったのですか。。。
Sumako: You’ve come here to exorcise a bakemono, haven’t you?

紫暮： おまえ何者だ！？なんでそんなことを知ってる？
Shigure: Who are you!? How do you know that?

須磨子： ようやくしゃべってくださいました。
Sumako: You finally speak to me!

須磨子： 私の知己にそういう方がおりますので。。。
Sumako: My acquaintance is just such a person…

須磨子： 。。。で。。。？
Sumako: So?

紫暮： 伊万里市に陶磁器を全国的に商っている金持ちがいる。
Shigure: Imari City has some of the richest traders in ceramics and porcelain in the whole country.

紫暮： あそこに別宅を持っていて、娘がいる。
今年で二十になる。。。
Shigure: There’s a girl living in a secondary residence over there.
She’s turning 20 this year…

紫暮： その娘が、ここ五年ばかり決まって。この時季に
化猫に狙われたいる。
Shigure: 5 years ago, during this season, that girl became the target of a bakeneko*.

紫暮： だから毎年己がここに派遣されたー
Shigure: So every year, I’m sent here.

Asako: Wow~ She even got you to talk freely!

紫暮： なーんでかなァ、なんでおとなしく傘に入ったりしたのかなァ。。。
Shigure: I don’t know how. I still don’t know why I stood under that umbrella so easily…

紫暮： ホント。。。
Shigure: Really…

紫暮： おっ、おい、己は傘などいらんぞ。。。
Shigure: O-oi! I don’t need an umbrella-

須磨子： いいですからお持ちくださいまし。
雨は体に毒ですよ。。。
Sumako: It’s all right. Please take it.
Rain is bad for the body.

須磨子： 私は、この先の窯元におりますゆえ、お返しはよしなに。。。
Sumako: I’m at that pottery place from before. You can return it there.

須磨子： ああ、そうそう小鳥！
Sumako: Oh, yes! That’s right. The birds!


紫暮： 小鳥？
Shigure: The birds?

須磨子： お坊様が私に近づいた時、逃げてしまいました。。。
Sumako: Before, when you came up to me, they all flew away.

紫暮： いつも殺伐としている己のせいだな。。。
Shigure: It’s because I’m so bloodthirsty.

須磨子： いいえ。。。
Sumako: No…

須磨子： 小鳥も、
あなたの肩にとまりたがっているのですよ。
Sumako: The birds

化猫： でも、もうおまえも娘もおしまいだァア　えへへへへ。

紫暮： 礼はいらん、仕事だからな。
Shigure: Thanks are unnecessary. It’s my job.

人： 毎年毎年、なぜうちの娘が。。。
Person: Why is it after my daughter, year after year…

人： お母様。。。
Person: Okaasama…

人： ここ五年、理由が全くわからないのです。
Person: For 5 years, I haven’t understood the reason.

紫暮： 元はといえば市内の自宅の改築の時、草に埋もれていた
小さな祠を壊したのが原因でしょうか。。。
それはもう立派に建て直し、おはらいもしました。。。
Shigure: The reason is probably that when this home was originally reconstructed here in the city,
a small shrine hidden in the grass was destroyed.
They paid to have it rebuilt-

紫暮： 中にあった壺ももとどおりにしてのに。。。
Shigure: And even replaced the pot that had been inside it…

紫暮： 妖には、人間にわからない理屈もある。。。
Shigure: But bakemono reason is not something humans can understand…

紫暮： あんた方の先祖が、あの猫に恨まれているのかもしれんな。。。
Shigure: The bakeneko has a grudge against your ancestors…

紫暮： 油断するなよ。。。いつもどおり、己の張った結界から一歩も出んことだ。
Shigure: We are prepared. As before, the barrier I put up will not let it step one foot inside.

人： あ。。。
Person: Ah-

人： 血が。。。！
Person: You’re bleeding!

紫暮： 大した傷じゃない。
Shigure: It’s not a deep wound.

人： いいえ、私のためにけがをされたのですから。。。
Person: Please, you were hurt on my behalf…

Sumako: We want Kentarou-chan, hana ichi monme.

須磨子： 都ちゃんがほしい、はーないちもんめ。

Shigure: Ch!

須磨子： あっ、
お坊様！
Sumako: Ah,
Obousama!

紫暮： これを返す。
Shigure: I’m returning this.

須磨子： ちょっとだけちょっとだけですから。。。
Sumako: Just a little-little bit…

須磨子： さあ、お坊さんも仲間に入れてあげてね。
Sumako: Okay, Obousan is going to join in with us.

紫暮： ガキどもも小鳥と同じさ、敏感なもんだ。
Shigure: Kids and birds are the same. They can sense things.

須磨子： 千宝輪をお持ちですか。
Sumako : Do you have a senbourin?

紫暮： な。。。ななで法力僧の武法具をしっている？
Shigure: H-how do you know about hourikisou buhougu?

須磨子： いいから、子供達に飛ばしてみせてあげてくださいな。
Sumako: It’s all right. Please show them how you can send it flying.

Shigure: Ugn…

須磨子： あの子がほしい。
Sumako: We want that kid.

よく、その当時のおじさんが「花いちもんめ」なんて
やりましたね～
Asako: Hoh!

紫暮： あっ、あれはホントーにニコニコ笑って押しの強いヤツなんだよっ。
Shigure: S-she was so enthusiastic and smiley!

紫暮： 生命保険の勧誘やってみろとすすめたコトもあったんだよ
Shigure: She’d have made a good insurance agent.

麻子： もしかして。。。おじさん、おばさんに頭を上がらなかったのでは。。。
Asako: By chance…did you do it to get her attention?

須磨子： ありがとうございました。。。子供達もあんなによろこんで。。。
Sumako: Thank you very much. The children enjoyed it very much too.

紫暮： ちっ、こういうのは苦手だ。。。ガキも含めて。。。
Shigure: Ch! I’m not good at this kind of thing. Like anything with kids.

紫暮： おのれらがいかに運良く生きのびているかも知らず、
妖の存在も信じようとせん、平知ボケしたヤツらもな。。。
Shigure: They might all go on to live happy lives,
never believing in the existence of bakemono, which makes them peaceful fools…

Shigure: Day by day, bustling about, small joys changing the look of their eyes.
People without a purpose or mission…

紫暮： 全く反吐が出る。
Shigure: It makes me sick.

須磨子： 自惚れるのはおやめなさい。
Sumako: Stop being so conceited.

須磨子： 人は最初から使命や目標を持って生まれて来たわけではありません。
生きてゆく上で各々が心に持つようになるものだし、その形も人それぞれです。
Sumako; People aren’t born with missions and objectives.
Everything they hold in their hearts, which grows as they live, all of that shapes people.

須磨子： 楽しく健康に暮らす。。。一生懸命家族を幸せにする。。。
そういうことが本当の人間の使命であり、目標もかもしれません。
Sumako: To live enjoyably, in good health…to work as hard as they can for
their family’s happiness…
That is the real mission and purpose of a human being.

須磨子： おのれのような使命や目標がほかの方にないからといって、
Sumako: Others don’t have the same mission as you seem to-

須磨子： 他者をおとしめることは、あなたにはできません。
Sumako: You can’t look down on them for that.

紫暮： ふん。。。口では何とでも。。。
Shigure: Fuhn. The things that come out of your mouth…

Bakemono: We’ll have some fun tomorrow night!

人： すみません、おひきとめてしてしまって。。。
Person: Forgive us for detaining you.

Shigure: What is it?

人： 五年もの間、あなたは娘をあの化猫から護ってくださいました。。。
Person : For 5 years, you have protected our daughter from that bakeneko…

Person: Shigure-san…
What do you think…of our daughter?

紫暮： どう。。。とは？
Shigure: “What do I think”?

人： 五年前、十五であった娘も、
もう二十を迎えました。。。
Person: 5 years ago, she was a 15 year old girl.

Shigure: Yes. Unfortunately.

Asako: Most importantly, if you didn’t want to be a hourikisou, you wouldn’t have to be.

Sumako: Good morning.

須磨子： どうです　これ？
「とれなー」と「ぢいぱむ」というんですって。。。
おかみさんが楽な服を買って来なさいとおしゃるので
これにしたんですが、おかしいと笑われたんですよ。
Sumako: How is it?
They’re called a “sweat-shirt” and “jeams”.
A lady told me to go buy some more comfortable clothing,
so I got these, but they’re so strange that they make me laugh.

Shigure: Guess not~

紫暮： 麻子ちゃん、化猫は明日の晩を楽しみにしろといったんだ。
Shigure: Okay, Asako-chan, so the bakeneko had just said we’d have fun the next night.

Asako: Right! Right!

紫暮： 気になって私は、市内にある金持ちの自宅の祠に行ったみた。
Shigure: Still uneasy, I went to see the small shrine at the house inside the city,

麻子： 改築の時壊したっていうトコね。。。
Asako: The one that was destroyed during construction, right?

紫暮： 祠から少し離れた所で、私はとんでもない物を見つけた。
Shigure: Removed a bit from the shrine, I found something unexpected.

紫暮： 草に埋もれてたが、それは祠の中の壺と同じ物だった。
Shigure: There was a pot, just like the one in the shrine, hidden in the grass.

麻子： 。。。じゃ。。。
Asako: That means-

紫暮： 壺は二つあったんだ。
Shigure: There were two pots.

化猫： な。。。何者だァア！？
Bakemono: W-who are you!?

須磨子： お坊様にも問われました。。。
Sumako: Obousama asked me the same question…

須磨子： 私は。。。深い海の底で眠る大妖を結界で封じ、
見張る者。。。
Sumako: I am the one who watches over and holds the barrier against a daiyoukai
deep at the bottom of the sea…

須磨子： 私は、獣の槍を使う者を生むため、
この世に帰った１３０年も前の女です。
Sumako: I am a woman who has returned to the world after 130 years
to give birth to the one who will wield the Beast Spear.

須磨子： 私がそのためにもらった「時」は二年―
Sumako: The time I have been given is a mere two years-

化猫： ちィ～　女ァやるなァ。
Bakemono: Ch! I’ll kill you, woman!

須磨子： でも、お坊様。。。私は思いました。
私がまた、海の底の役目に戻ったら。。。
Sumako: But, Obousama…I had been thinking about
when I return to the bottom of the sea-

須磨子： 残された夫と子供はどうなるのでしょう。
Sumako: Leaving my husband and son behind. What would happen?

化猫： 行くぞオオ。
Bakemono: Here I come!

須磨子： それは、あまりに身勝手なのではないかと。。。
Sumako: It seemed too selfish to me…
