Title: Gourmet 155 The Actual Food, the Shining Gourami!!
Author: Shimabukuro Mitsutoshi
SFX: DODODODODO
Side: Kept you waiting, huh!? Now for the actual food!!
Someone: OoO
SFX: KAPAA KYUAAA
All: Awesome...
This is
the "Shining Gourami".
It's a strong emission of light, but it's definitely not dazzling.
It's like the warm glow of a sunrise.
Sani: Beaut'ful...
What a beaut'ful fish...
(On Page): What is this...
Page 2:
SFX: Chapu
Komatsu: It's really pleasantly cool.
Even though it's glowing so much...
Toriko: Creatures that emit light have something called "bioluminescence" so they lose almost no heat. ["bioluminescence" in bold.]
They use an enzyme on the light producing substance in their bodies that creates a glow... It's like with the insects, fireflies, and the sea creatures, firefly squids.
But I'm amazed it still emits this much light while it's had knocking used on it.
Sani: Komatsu, did you know some particularly good way of using Knocking on this thing?
Komatsu: No, I didn't... I fumbled around a little and just managed it...
Both: Fumbled!?
Komatsu: Yes. Looking through the clear surface of he water, when I performed the basics of ike jime it was successful.
TL Note: Ike jime is the process of method of paralyzing and bleeding fish to maintain its quality.
Komatsu: The water was calm, but silky. It felt really fitting for the "Shining Gourami"...
Page 3:
Sani: This water you put in the Gourmet Case, I see...
It's true... silky water... No, with this hydrophobic quality it's just like "oil"...
Toriko: Hm... It's got a slight smell of fatty acid...
This a kind of unsaturated fatty acid like olein acid...
It's close to a high quality oil, like olive oil...
SFX: SUN SUN
Toriko: A pond that gathered up all of the nutrients of the over 15,000 meter "Mors Mountain Range".
Top: Clear top of the liquid
Bottom: Thick murky water
Toriko: The part on the top was probably an oil-like substance extracted bit by bit from the plants and animals of the mountains...
Komatsu: I guess if even a fish could swim in it, this mysterious oil helped relieve the Shining Gourami's stress.
I was lucky I was able to knock it successfully.
Toriko: It wasn't luck, Komatsu...
Komatsu: Eh?
Toriko: It's because you heard the ingredient's, the Shining Gourami's, "voice". ["Voice" in bold.]
It's your power...!!
Komatsu: N... Naw~~ Honestly I actually failed on 3 before I got it right...
Toriko: Whuh!?
What'd you do with those?!
Page 4:
Komatsu: I... I tried to eat them of course.
(In Bubble): It seemed like such a waste.
Komatsu: But its color suddenly turned black and its taste turned bad, so I couldn’t...
Toriko: What!?
Sani: Are you saying the Shining Gourami is...
Komatsu: Yes. It's probably a "specially prepared ingredient"... ["specially prepared ingredient" in bold.]
Toriko: If we can, I'd like to eat it as sashimi, but... there's a high chance that if you stick a knife in it, the taste will immediately deteriorate.
Komatsu: Well about that... I've been thinking...
How about we try lightly deep frying it...!!?
Both: T...
Tempura!?
Toriko: Ha
Komatsu, is that why you brought that "oil"...?
Komatsu: Yes! Using this oil that the Shining Gourami lived comfortably in
I think that even if we deep fried it, it'd allow us to cook it without the taste suddenly deteriorating...
Toriko: That's true...... And with this oil, it'll be okay even if the silkiness in the oil runs out.
In that case, it would have a thick rich flavor like sesame oil...
Page 5:
Toriko: I really think that's the right decision, Komatsu!!
Sani: Get the cookin' started already!!
Komatsu: Okay!!
SFX: SHUBOU
Komatsu: With the oil at the high temperature of 180°C, it should deep fry completely all at once.
If we heat it for a long time, the fish's protein with harden and it could lost flavor.
SFX: SU...
Komatsu: Okay!
SFX: PUKU PUKU
Komatsu: We don't have any eggs right now, so we'll need to deep fry it with just wheat flour and water.
The fish and the oil itself shouldn't be lacking in flavor and rich taste, though...
Toriko: Hm... Rather than tempura, this is gonna be more like french-frying...
But uh, good job brining all that wheat powder.
Komatsu: I always bring simple cooking ingredients and seasonings with me.
Today I brought an incredible seasoning, though.
Sani: Incredible seasoning?
Komatsu: Okay, let's fry it up!
Page 6:
Komatsu: First...
SFX: GOWAH PACHI PACHI
Komatsu: There's still some moisture in the body and skeleton
I think the oil should eliminate it, but
I think I should leave it in for a few minutes.
SFX: GOWAWAWAWAWA SUU
Toriko: Ooh, awesome! Even though it's being deep fried, it's still glowing!!
Sani: Glowing bubbles are gushing from all over its body!!
SFX: GOWAWAWAWAWA
Sani: Even though it's just deep frying...
SFX: GOWAWAWAWA
Sani: It's such a divine spectacle...
SFX: FURU FURU
Komatsu: Okay...
That should be about enough.
Someone: Glowing tempura!!?
Woah, what the hell is this!!?
I've never seen something like this before!!!
SFX: KARAAN
Page 7:
Toriko: S... So fragrant...
Haa
Haa
Man, I gotta eat this thing while it's hot!
SFX: HAGU HAGU
Toriko: Okay, Komatsu!! Fry up all you have!!
Let's eat right away!!
Komatsu: Okay!!
Toriko: ALLLL RAAAIIIIGHT!!
Cooking complete!!
SFX: KARAH KARAAN
Komatsu: A... Amazing...
Toriko: Yeah, it's sparkling...
Komatsu: No... the oil..
Toriko: Oil?
Komatsu: Th... The oil... it's not dirty at all...
It looks even better than when lightly frying vegetables... But with something like a fish that usually makes oil so dirty it has this level of transparency...
It's like oil you could use infinitely...
Toriko: You have a point...... Okay! We got this oil from the Mors Mountain Range, so let's call it "Mors Oil"!! ["Mors Oil" in bold.]
TL Note: Mors Oil = Mors Yu
Sani: Awes'me, Matsu! You discovered a new natural cooking oil!!
'Ll right! Cooking's done!!
Now, for the "situation"!!
Komatsu: Situ...
Sani: Quin!!
Page 8:
People: !!
SFX: SHUAAA GUAA
Sani: Tonight's special.
How about we have dinner on Quin's back?
It'll make an instant overlook restaurant.
Both: Q...
Quin's!?
Sani: Come on, Quin!
Komatsu: WAWAH
Sani: Stretch out your body as far as it'll go!!
SFX:BYUH DODOH
Komatsu: GYAAH
SFX: GYUAAA
Page 9:
SFX: GUOOOO
Toriko: Uo... oo...
What incredible height...
Komatsu: HYA~~~~
Toriko: She can stand up vertically this far?
What awesome muscle strength!
Sani: We're still only 800 meters up.
But with this superb view, we'll have the best dining experience!
Komatsu: Um...
It's kinda so high it's scary, though...
W... Well then...
I give thanks to all the ingredients in this world.
"Shining Gourami"!!
Itadakimasu!!
Page 10:
Toriko: Ooo...
This looks like a shachihoko made of pure gold.
TL Note: A shachihoko is an animal in Japanese folklore with the head of a tiger and the body of a carp. They're often used as roof ornaments.
Toriko: AAAAAAH
MMMMM!
SFX: KARI PARI PARI
Toriko: The surface is browned and crunchy
It's almost like it has layers of thin wafer-like scales.
SFX: JYUKU
Toriko: The inside is soft, and with the thickness it's juicy.
A thick savoriness is slowly but steadily flowing out of the elastic meat!!
SFX: GOKU...
Toriko: ~~~~~~~~~~
Page 11:
All: YUUUUUM!!!
SFX: WAH
Komatsu: Look at the Shining Gourami's meat!!
I thought it might be tender white-flesh but...
It's silver!!?
I've never seen silver flesh before!!
Sani: So much beauty...
this ingredient...
...But
this beauty...
I thought for certain the my cell's level would got up, but...
..........
Is it still missing something...?
Komatsu: The taste is strong and rich, but...
it truly has simple texture and there's still a good amount of flavor left...
The Shining Gourami...
It might go well with this ingredient!!
That seasoning...!!
Page 12:
Komatsu: Toriko-san!
Toriko: Hm?
Komatsu: Should we use it for this?
The "Melk Stardust"!! ["Melk Stardust" in white.]
Toriko: Ah!?
Sani: What? Did you say Melk Stardust!?
The seasoning containing the new variety of "savoriness component"!!?
The Melk Stardust whose flavor you didn't tell me about!!?
You've got some with you now, Matsu?
Komatsu: Yes.
Toriko: Back when we got to the "cave in the waterfall" and asked if you had any food, Komatsu,
it was because I had smelled something good coming from your backpack the whole time...
So that was the "Melk Stardust", huh...?
Komatsu: Yes. I used it to mark where I had been in the cave.
Toriko: Sani...
There's a reason I didn't tell you the taste of the "Melk Stardust".
Sani: !
Toriko: That seasoning actually has
a strong addictiveness to it.
Sani: What?
You're saying...
Page 13:
Sani: It's a "narcotic ingredient"?
Toriko: No.
It's not the kind of thing that would have to be regulated by law, but anyhow, it's just too delicious.
That level of "flavor"---- The overhwlming savoriness components made up of new kinds of amino acids
it's a magic spice that directly attacks the appetite.
It has a peculiarity to it that once you eat it, you can't stop.
Komatsu: Right here!
Sani: Uoh, beaut'ful!!
Komatsu: When we first ate it, both me and Melk-san were in a trance and couldn't stop licking the stuff.
(On Page): It's too delicious.
Sani: There's no way there's a seasoning that you really can't stop eating like that.
Toriko: The problem is that no matter what ingredients we put it on, it overpowered the ingredient.
You can't use it on normal ingredients...
Unless it's something with the level of impact of the "Jewel Meat", it'll lose to the strength of the "Melk Stardust".
Sani: ..........
So if it's the "Shining Gourami"...
Komatsu: Yes!
It might not lose to it!
Sani: Balance...
Perhaps even "harmony"?
Toriko: It's worth a try!!
Page 14:
SFX: SARA SARA KIRA KIRA
Sani: Putting a golden spice on silver meat...
This chance meeting is art...
Undoubtedly...
These two ingredient undoubtedly met
to be in "harmony"!!
SFX: GABU (chomp)
SFX: DOKYUUOA
Page 15:
Sani: UOoA
This flavor...
They're compatible-----!!
SFX: BUWAAA
Sani: Like a missing puzzle piece,
it fits perfectly in my body!!
Narration: The power that he had used until there wasn't a drop left...
now suddenly felt like it's there was more than a full tank of it
and Toriko tasted it, too.
Sani: Digustin'!!!
Narration: Komatsu's judgement was correct------
With the "Melk Stardust", the "Shining Gourami's" flavor rose in quality...
In the situation over 800 meters above the ground
Page 16:
Narration: The three people's hearts and bodies were satisfied-----
SFX: DODODODODODO
Page 17:
Toriko: The "Death Falls:......
You can be sure that if we didn't combine all our strengths, we would never have made it to the target...
Sani: There are even more disgusin' and raging waterfalls in the "Gourmet World"...
We've really got to get stronger.
Komatsu: This time Quin-chan had a lot to do, too.
You could say our party's grown even bigger...
Someday......
It'd be nice to have Coco-san and Zebura-san all together...
If all of us could go on a journey...
it would be the best!!
Sani: I don't wanna. That'd be annoying.
Komatsu: Eh, what?!
Sani: And that Zebura guy's disgustin'.
Page 18:
Komatsu: He's not disgusti-----ng! He's just a little scary because his mouth is torn.
Sani: That's plenty gross, ain't it?!
Komatsu: But he's really reliable! So is Coco-san...
Sani; Coco's got poison so he's gross, too!
Toriko: .............
Yeah, Komatsu...
If we could go on a journey as the Four Heavenly Kings again, like we did in the old days...
But Komatsu...
do you understand?
You being there...
would be more needed than anything else...
SFX: WAI WAI
Quin: ............
Narration: What Quin stared at off in the distance
was the distant back lands of the Mors Mountain Range.
Quin was convinced...
that that 5,000 meter class sized "mountain" that flowed down the waterfall...
had been excavated by someone... ["Excavated" in italics.]
Page 19:
Narration: Who on earth it was...
she did not yet know.
So for the time being Quin just stayed on lookout.
But perhaps because of seeing the three people on her back in such high spirits, her strength left her...
People: Huh?
What's wrong, Quin?
She's going down!
Hang in there, Quin!
Narration: Quin stopped thinking, too...
SFX: KUTE~~~~
Narration: That day's banquet...
Side: When the party ends... a new chapter begins!!
Narration: continued until morning-----
SFX: DOCHAN DOCHAN
Guy: Huhhuhhu.
Quite a good team, isn't it?
SFX: DODODODODO
Bottom: Toriko
