Page 67:
Hina: Also, Takahashi-kun remembered Chiho-chan.
Talking to him about her
really made me happy...
----Nobody in the class
talks about Chiho-chan anymore.
It's almost
like she was
never there
in the first place...
And that makes me
wonder why you would act
like a person just didn't exist.
Huh?
Uh, what?
Sorry.
Rei: It's okay, here...
Hina: Thank you for
always listening to me like this, Rei-chan.
You always ask
'Hina-chan, what's wrong'.

...But I
don't even know what's wrong...

Page 68:
Hina: I'm so frustrated.
'What's wrong?'...
----I want to tell them all how stupid they are and hit them.
I want to really, really bad.
I want to make them feel the same thing Chiho-chan felt.
And
let them
know
what..
it is
they did.
Boxes: She sent Chiho-chan a letter
but she waited and waited and never got a reply...
What came instead
Hina: But
it's too late.
Chiho-chan is
gone now.
And
it's a waste of time.
Box: ----she received a letter from her mother.
Hina: to even try to get them to apologize.
Letter:
Chiho-chan is still not attending school even here. She is undergoing rehab with a councilor at a place called "Heart Care Center". Chiho-chan would like to
to write to you [This part's cut off on the left]
cannot [Cut off]

Page 69:

Top Right Small: An article by Senzaki Manabu
Top Right Big: Senzaki Manabu's Lion Shogi Column
Big Right: Are there Really Student Pro Shogi Players?! Do they need an Academic Record?!
Article: An education is non-essential in the world of Shogi players. Whether they're middle graduates, high school graduates, or whatever, it doesn't matter one bit. By the way, I only graduated middle school but I haven't felt any unfairness towards me as a result of that whatsoever.
Twenty-something years before I entered the world of shogi, less than half of the people that enter the Shoureikai would go to high school. The idea that one should focus on shogi rather than study for school seemed to be the mainstream idea. The change in the flow of things was when Habu-san's generation started going to high school. Moriuchi Toshiyuki, Satou Yasumitsu, Gouda Masataka, all went to high school (which was actually pretty out of the ordinary). For Habu-san and his generation the world of shogi was already very active by the time they were high school age so they weren't able to earn credit as a result of being busy with tournaments, so it seems they went to night classes instead and graduated that way.
Following the examples of the strongest players, this became a fundamental aspect of the world. After that mangy Shoureikai members have gone to high school. If you think about it, young people with lots of free time aren't limited to only devote themselves to shogi. Youth comes with lots of worldly appetites. So life can be pretty irregular. One can get hooked on pachinko, mahjong, or any other kind of game. So the philosophy is that going to high school and living a normal life is better.
Going to high school is understandable, but surprisingly there are many shogi players that attend college as well. And many of them are so-called top-class college students.
For example, Hirose Akihito-kun who took the title of Oui, graduated from the Waseda University school of mathematics. And his rival, Nakamura Taichi 5-dan graduated from the same university from the school of political economics. And Waseda's political-economics school is a famous school which many politicians and bureaucrats have graduated from. Whenever I drink with Nakamura-kun, I tease him saying 'Just quit playing shogi and do something about our national politics!'
The most elite reach even higher positions. Katagami Daisuke 6-dan incredibly is a graduate of the Tokyo University law school. That just makes me want to ask him why he became a shogi player. By the way, in his own words he says "I'm not that smart, I'm just good at studying." Anyhow he seems to be very good at deciding on a goal and then studying until the definitive day arrives.
There are female Tokyo U graduates as well. I know players from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo University of Science, and other universities lying about. With this change in the past 10 or so years, it's quite surprising to someone old-school as myself. I can't help but feel quite jealous as someone who was good at school and shogi but only graduated middle school.
