People in Tokyo say that the Fukushima people are too serious, stubborn, and such

礼節を重んじ常に周囲を気遣う

真の福島の魂を全くわかっとらん！！
They don’t understand the true nature of the Fukushima spirit at all!

さかのぼれば１６４３年
３代将軍徳川家光より
Going back to 1643
When 3rd generation Tokugawa Iemitsu was shogun

たった３万石の小さな藩主
だったにもかかわらず
There was only a mere 3 thousand small feudal regions.
Despite this

その辣腕と謹厳実直さを認められ
２３万石という大変な引き立てをたまわり
Those 23 thousand people who were known for their shrewdness and honesty had their favors granted

初代会津藩主となった
Turned into the first generation daimyo, Aitsu

保科正之
Hoshina Masayuki

このお方がいかに名君であったか！！
There is a wise person within this old man!?

正之は藩政のみならず４代将軍家綱の補佐役をも任され幕政においても中枢として
ビシビシと政策を打ち出して行ってのじゃぞ
Masayuki was not only a daimyo, he was also an assistant for the 4th generation shogun. The shogun also entrusted him to set forth strict political measurements.

玉川上水
Tamagawa water supply

江戸市民の飲用水確保の為
玉川上水の河川工事を行い
In order to protect the water supply for the citizens of Edo,
The Tamagawa water supply was built.

火事の際　隣家への類焼を
防ぐため主婦な大通りの幅を
６間から９間に拡げ
To prevent a fire from spreading to each house, at 6th to 9th house on a block, the water supply would be there.

上野広山路
Main Street of Ueno

火除け地とし上野に広小路を設置
To protect against fires, a main street was created in Ueno

焼け落ちた江戸城の天守閣の再建築が
出た折は「天下泰平の今の世の中には
必要ない無駄な出費は不要！！」と却下
The chance to reconstruct the burned down Edo castle was rejected, as people thought that “In these peace times, it is unnecessary to spend our expenses on something that isn’t needed”.

Pension system

これも大元は正之と言われるのだ
This was also called the Masayuki
正之は飢饉にそなえ民衆のために米を倉に貯める社倉法を定め
Masayuki established a law that created a warehouse to store rice for the citizens during a famine.

また９０歳以上の老人には身分を問わず
Also, elderly people who were over 90 years old did not have their social status questioned.

無料で米を配布するという
It is said that the rice was distributed for free

今の日本の年金制度の
元を作ったとも言われておるのじゃっ
It said that Japan’s current pension system’s origin came from that time as well.
