Conan: Well...

Conan: Great!
--The height of the seat is just right!

Conan: So could Ayumi-chan accompany on the piano...
--while the rest of you sing?
Ayumi: Eh?

Conan: I want you to give it your all...
--with a fun song!

Ayumi:　OK!

Singing: I stepped on the cat, I stepped on the cat...
--After I stepped on him he scratched me...

Conan: Now, if you'll answer a few questions!
--First is your name and age...

Keita: Onoda Keita...I'm 7...

Conan: You're 7, so you're in elementary school year 1?
Keita: Yeah! Haido Elementary year 1 class 3!
Genta: You're the same grade as us!?
Mitsuhiko: But how did Conan-kun know you're a kid?

Conan: First of all it was from what was written in the diary...
--"Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Beethoven...heart touching melodies...Geniuses born in the same age...I resent their talent."

Conan: Chopin was born 60 years after Bach died...There's no way you'd say they were born in the same age would you?

Conan:　But who was the person in the diary indicating?
--The answer suddenly came to me when I looked at the photo Ayumi-chan picked up...

Conan: The one who was kidnapped was the same age as the girl in the photo...
--A piano genius!

Conan: Most likely he wanted to help his daughter win at the late March Beckham International Music Competiton by kidnapping this boy and confining him at his own villa!

Genta: His own? You mean this villa belongs to the culprit?
Conan: Yes! The piano room in the photo is the same as this one!

Conan: From the contents of the diary, I suspect the one who abducted you is the father of the girl in the photo.
Keita: Yeah...Chiaki-chan's father...That was the first time I'd met him, but I knew his face! Chiaki-chan had showed me the photo before...

Keita: But it wasn't a kidnapping at all! Chiaki-chan's father was helping me out!
--With the competition coming up, doing nothing but practicing all the time was no fun at all!

Haibara: That's why you were doing all those things you wouldn't normally be able to do without being scolded: eating candy while walking down the hallways, goofing around with the push cart, and playing video games...
Keita: Yeah! I was having so much fun riding the push cart down the hallways!

Mitsuhiko: But what about the tall person I saw...
Conan: That was him peeking at us while standing on the handle of the push cart...the cart's pretty heavy...

Conan: And the reason the table in the kitchen had food all over the place is that although you were hungry, the man who brought you here took off and left, right?
Keita: Yeah! I was eating the ham, bread and fried food in the fridge! I can't cook, you see...

Ayumi: But the piano room's all tidy!
Conan: He was probably always told by his parents to keep this place clean no matter what.
Keita: It's because Mom said the piano room is where God's music resides...

Conan: And so after you finish playing you always return the seat back to its original position?
Keita: I took out the auxiliary pedals too! Although when you first came here I was surprised and forgot to return the seat height...

Haibara: I see...that's why you were anxious...Although you were certain the performer was a child the seat height didn't match...
Conan: Yes...because I didn't realize the seat height could be changed!

Genta: But did the culprit really run away?
Mitsuhiko: The diary said, "Since he knows about his situation I have no choice but to kill him." The next day's entry said, "Forgive me, boy."

Conan: Certainly if we read those two entries one after the other it would appear he had killed him...However, those two are not consecutive entries!
Mitsuhiko: Eh?
Conan: Because the boy switched them...

Conan: Since he didn't have any paper to draw on he used the diary without thinking...
--And took out this page for the treasure map!

Conan: Look, there are two pages sticking out from the edge!
--This proves these pages were switched! Since the pages in diaries and notebooks are cut so they are flush at the edges, if you the move the bottom pages up to the top they'll stick out!

Conan: We also know because the center staple pins are misaligned!
--Since he pulled the staple pins up, switched pages, and then pressed them back down, the pins are out of alignment.

Conan: The place where the treasure map was drawn was the right side of the same wine stained sheet where on the left side the date, March 24, was written.
--On the back side of that date was the diary entry for March 23...

Conan: However, by removing only that page, when it came time to write the entry for the 24th, it would have been easy to see what he did. That's why he moved the page for March 21st up after the page for March 23rd...He doctored the number 21 so that it would like a 24, and then splashed wine on it!

Haibara: I see...In actuality, the back of the page dated March 21 is the diary entry for March 20th...The "I have no choice but to kill him" entry was written before the "When he speaks he's quite a pleasant child" entry.

Conan: Yes...In other words it began with the March 20th entry, "I have no choice but to kill him"...
--Then the March 21st entry, "When he speaks he's quite a pleasant child"...Followed by the March 22nd entry, "Bach, Mozart..."
--The March 23rd entry was removed, so the final entry was on March 24th, "I'm sorry boy. Please forgive me."

Conan: If we assume the March 23rd diary entry was about feeling regrets for the crime he committed...
--Then it means that at the beginning he felt he had to kill him but that those feelings gradually diminished...And the diary was to be an account of that and how he decided to leave the boy here and flee!

Mitsuhiko: You really put a lot thought into removing that page!
Genta: You should have just destroyed it!
Keita: That would have eventually been discovered...

Keita: I do this when I have to write a lot of notes on a musical score for homework...Last year my brother in middle school showed me how I could be sneaky and switch the pages with notes I had written before.

Conan: So do you have the pages you removed with you?
Keita: Uh, yeah...

Conan: It's impossible...I knew I couldn't do it...
--Anyone who targets a fellow musician in order to consign this talent to oblivion deserves certain death...I've resolved to doing that...

Conan: Hey! Where'd that man say he was going!?
Keita: Um...Since my mom was coming in a little while he told me I wasn't to let anybody into the house and then disappeared...
Ayumi: Come to think of it...

Ayumi: There was hot water streaming down that hallway where I found the photo...
Conan: The bath!!

Haibara: There's hot water flowing out from under the door...

Haibara:　Perhaps he's trying to commit suicide by slitting his wrist and placing it in the bathtub...With the water continuing to run the blood won't clot, making it easy to die from blood loss...While that　was happening the photo his hand may have washed out here...

Conan: Damn, it's locked!!!

Conan: It's impossible using a child's strength without any picks...

--The wound is shallow, and the blood loss isn't worse than I expected...

Conan: The reason the hot water was flowing down the hallway...
--was that a towel was used to plug up the drain...

Conan: Hey! Hand me that long, thin can of shaving creme sitting on top of the sink!
Mitsuhiko: Ah, ok!

Conan: I'll use these to bind up his upper arm to stop the bleeding...
--After this we'll just need to get him to the hospital...

Conan: But using a child's strength to carry out an adult...
Agasa: It's fine!

Agasa: I'll take him to the hospital in the car!
Ayumi: Professor!
Mitsuhiko: You did well to find us here!

Agasa: I saw your day packs lined up at the front entrance...

Conan: Apparently Chiaki-chan won't be told until she's older!　I understand her parents originally separated 6 months ago...

Haibara: So do you suppose Chiaki won the competition?
Conan: No, I hadn't heard anything about that...

Keita: What, you didn't enter the competition, Chiaki-chan?
Chiaki: No! I talked it over with Mama and decided not to!

Keita: After that my mother even became nicer!
--She doesn't tell me to practice all the time anymore!

Chiaki: But when they tell you not to practice piano don't feel like you really want to?
Keita: Yeah! This time let's play that four-handed piece, Mozart's Sonata for 2 Pianos!

Haibara: It just goes to show, "Parents are unaware of the minds of their children."
Genta: But why was he always playing that song?
Conan: Maybe he watched his brother's graduation on home video?

Haibara: Perhaps he thought that by playing Air on the G String we would leave, just like graduating students leaving their school...
Conan: Or maybe...

Conan: He himself wanted to graduate...
